About Judith Ronning

My grandparents were settlers here, in the winter I often wonder why they stopped here. But in the summer, you forget about the long winters and enjoy the beautiful lake, the cool evenings and all the birds and wildlife. The cry of the loons in the evenings is unforgettable. Eagles soaring overhead, a beautiful sight. The beavers swimming by, looking for more tender trees. One morning I awoke and they had taken my apple tree, a crab apple tree and a sugar maple! Now I plant my fruit trees far from the lake shore. I love gardening! Every time a birch tree died, a new garden was birthed in the rich soil. We love people and we love sharing this special spot with our guests who quickly become our friends.

Why Judith Ronning chose Minnesota

My husband's father bought this land back in the 50's. So we sit nestled in on land between his brother's and his sister's. It is a quiet haven, tucked in behind an island in a little bay. Years ago before everyone had GPS's, boats would come flying through here, thinking they were heading for TimBucTu and the Narrows but these days it is quiet. On opening fishing though there are always 4-5 boats in our little bay. Most of the summer we have fishing boats out front. One only needs to row out a ways in our 16-foot rowboat, available to our guests, and go fishing with the best of them!

What makes this cabin unique

"So peaceful," that is the comment we often hear as people step through the breezeway and see the setting, the gardens and Lake Vermilion. The breezeway is a comfortable sheltered spot to observe the lake, make and enjoy dinners on the grill. And everyone goes for the swing chair. "Room with a View," that was the name of a movie and I feel like that is what best describes our guest quarters, an awesome view from every window.

Warm Winter Get-away

  • 5 of 5

We went skiing on the frozen lake, lit fires in the wood burning stove, sweat in the sauna and cooked delicious meals in the kitchen of this charming little garage-turned-cozy-cabin. The perfect get-away for 2 people. The owners were kind, making sure there was enough wood for the fire, and the whole process was really easy and low key. Highly recommended!

Charming rental.

  • 5 of 5

The rental had everything we needed, was on a beautiful piece of property, and Judith was very welcoming and accommodating. We had a restful weekend and spent time on the lake each day and had a bonfire each night. Would recommend this place to anyone looking to getaway to rest and relax in God's beauty.

Lovely setting on Lake Vermilion

  • 5 of 5

Perfect for two. Nice quiet location on the lake. Owners were very accommodating. Two large sky lights in the cabin were a nice addition to the north woods, as well as listening to the loons in the evening and early morning. Judy has done a lot of gardening and decorative landscaping on the property as well as her own personal touches to the cabin. We would highly recommend this cabin.

Cozy, Comfortable, Tranquil Stay!

  • 5 of 5

We cannot say enough great things about Judith's place. It is perfectly located on a quiet bay and the views are stunning. We had such a peaceful stay and our puppy loved the nice swim beach, easy access to the lake, and expansive yard to run around on. What could be better than beautiful lake views, great water access and pet friendly accommodations!? Judith and her husband are very accommodating and we had great communication leading up to and during our trip. Truly, this place is a gem and we cannot wait to plan our next visit! Thanks for everything.

Until next time,

Nate, Meg, & Coda

Super cute little cabin in the northwoods on lake vermillion

  • 5 of 5

We loved this cabin!! The decor is very cozy and perfect for a northwoods cabin, the bed is really comfortable, and the kitchen has everything you need! A wood burning stove and sauna complete the cozy atmosphere. The location on lake vermillion is stunning! Our dog Dakota had a blast playing in the deep snow, and we went snowshoeing on the lake and snowboarding at nearby Giants Ridge. The owners were super friendly and accommodating to anything we needed! We will be back, hopefully in summer!
