About Larry Hamnett

I have been coming to Caddo Lake since I was a young boy. When you experience Caddo Lake as a child it is like going back in prehistoric times, before we knew what Jurassic Park was. I have grown-up fishing, swimming, boating, hunting, water skiing, bird-watching, and contemplating God's wonders on this unexplainable swamp. Words do it no justice, pictures only a failing eye's glimpse, the only way to know Caddo Lake is to come and "Feel" it from Sunrise to Sunrise in every Season.

Larry Hamnett purchased this lodge in 2010

Wonderful Trip

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four 9 (two middle school daughters) had a fantastic time at the Labrador Lodge! The house was large and clean. It was also on a huge waterfront lot that provided plenty of leisure activities for our family. It's also very close to the Caddo Lake State Park which was nice to visit. I would highly recommend this property.

Most Relaxin'

  • 5 of 5

Our weekend at Labrador Lodge was the most relaxing getaway our family has ever had! The setting on beautiful Caddo Lake is just what was needed to escape busy lifestyles and have family time together. The lodge was clean, roomy, and well stocked with needed items. Owner recommended River Bend Restaurant. Food was great and service was friendly. If we ever get to go back (hoping we will!), we will bring a few outside games because of the spacious backyard. Did not want to leave!

Great Girls Weekend Away! SisterChicks 2016

  • 4 of 5

The house was perfect! Great outdoors with a view :) We enjoyed sitting on the back porches watching the sunrise and sunsets. We did hang out in the pool, (the only reason I gave the house a 4 instead of a 5 is because the pool was hot bath water..lol; nothing our owner can do about our Texas Heat changing the pool to warm bath water.)

AC works wonderfully it was the first weekend that we had temps over 100 degrees this summer so we enjoyed the cool climate inside. We were only missing a few things that we needed, we called Larry and he brought them right over. One of or SisterChicks is very particular about wrinkles NOT being in her clothes so when she called Larry the we needed some more tissue paper she asked if he had an iron, he said he would bring one right over. Well he did that an more, he went out and bought a new iron and ironing board- what a sweetie. It made her night!

Thank you for a great weekend. I wish VRBO would let us share some pics :)

fyi if you want the best tour swap tour guide check out https://captronswamptours.com/ .. Capt. Ron is full of knowledge and all of us agreed that 1 1/2 hrs was not long enough to hear all his great stories and the history of the area.

This was the 1st time a lot of us have ever been to Caddo and I am so glad we picked this place to stay!! The house was very nice and well stocked. The view was INCREDIBLE. And Mr. Hamnett even took us on a night time boat ride. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and are already talking about coming back!! Highly recommend!!!

Great

  • 5 of 5

Me and my family stayed at the Caddo lake Labrador lodge for three days and had a great time. House was clean had everything you needed and very spacious. Even despite the rain we had on our visit we still had a good time. Loved the view kids had a great time in the pool and fishing on the pier. Great family get a way. Hopefully we will be able to come back again and relax.

Welcome To Uncertain Texas

What's in a name? The whole history of a town whose remote beginnings reflect the nature of the place, a place of exotic beauty, deep secrets, the haunts of wildlife where those who need respite for their souls can find harmony and peace. Uncertain, long the shores of Caddo Lake has, for over a hundred years, provided a means for launching into another world--a fishing hole, a cathedral of cypress, a paradise of the past. There are so many reasons for experiencing Caddo and Uncertain,Texas, whether it be to catch a trophy bass, reflect quietly at the water's edge , explore every nook that can float a canoe, photograph it, or paint it, Caddo Lake seems to reward, at every turn, those who come to see and feel and experience one of nature's most special places.

Caddo Lake, the mysterious and intriguing Texas treasure, is stretched across the Texas-Louisiana border. Caddo was designated in 1971, by the international Ramsar Treaty, as a "Wetlands of International Importance. Caddo is Texas' only naturally formed lake and covers 32,700 acres of a maze of channels, meandering bayous, and sloughs within thousands of acres of Spanish moss draped bald cypress.

The City of Uncertain was incorporated in 1961 as a Type B, General Law City with a mayor and five aldermen on an at large basis.

Uncertain has about 150 friendly residents who enjoy sharing their bit of paradise in Uncertain, TX with the outside world. They invite you to come and spend some time in Texas best kept secret, Caddo Lake.Caddo has been dubbed "the best photo spot in Texas.

May and June, hundreds of female Red-ear Sliders come ashore to lay eggs. The City of Uncertain posts "Turtle Crossing" signs along the roadways to alert motorists to watch for the "reptilian mothers" crossing the roads.

Caddo Lake was the site of the world's first off-shore drilling for oil.

A major pearl industry operated on Caddo Lake in the 1920s. Pearls were found in the freshwater mussels in the sandy shallows of the cypress brakes.

Steamboats, loaded with goods destined for the developing west, traveled through Caddo Lake in route to Jefferson, Texas. Because of fluctuating water levels, mooring was often "uncertain."
