About Millie Blevins

I am a native Floridian, that lived most of my adult life in Tampa Florida. My husband's parents had a beach house in Casey Key and he introduced me to this secluded piece of paradise. We were fortunate to permanently move to Casey Key several years ago and subsequently purchased this duplex last year. What we loved most about this property is its tropical backyard right on the Intracoastal and the private beach right across the street. It is truly a beautiful place that I am sure, you too, will fall in love with!!

Millie Blevins purchased this cottage in 2014

What makes this cottage unique

The duplex is located right next door to our home. We live in Casey Key all year round so we will be able to give you on-site service.

The boat dock (with electricity and water provided) is directly behind the property with room for your boat trailer in the front.

A 12 x 12 furnished gazebo in the backyard overlooking the intracoastal.

Best of both worlds... private beach access and you are on the intercostal waterways.

Lovely

  • 5 of 5

What a lovely place to stay in a really fabulous location. With the intercoastal waterway in the backyard, and a short walk to the beach from the front yard, this was a very enjoyable place to stay. The inside is competely redone and the furnishings are very nice. The backyard is beautifully landscaped and is a little paradise. Millie was very easy to work with and easy to contact. We would love to stay here again!

Will Be Back!!!

  • 5 of 5

When I made the decision to spend time on Casey Key, I had no idea what was in store for me when I booked this adorable "little cottage by the sea." I checked in with Millie, the owner, and thirty days later, checked out with Millie, my friend. Upon checking in, I immediately learned that nothing was too much trouble for Millie...not that anything was lacking. From a small but fully stocked kitchen to the tastefully decorated home, to the beach chairs and umbrellas, however nothing prepared me for the gorgeous grounds just off the lanai. I must let visitors know that there is no door between the bedroom and living room. This could be a small problem if one person is a late sleeper and the other an early riser. As a short person, I needed a little step stool to reach the upper shelves in the kitchen. No problem for future vacationers, as one is there now.Currently, I am saving my pennies to return later this year. But sadly, you will not be able to book for March,2018. I am already scheduled to return. It has only been 6 days since I left and I am "homesick" already.

Special Place, pelicans included

  • 5 of 5

Just read the last review, wow they complained about a pocket door...hello, it's a pocket door. And no dishwasher...if you read what the unit offers there is no dishwasher listed and how lazy are you? They forgot to mention that the owners went out of her way to find them another place to stay because of the construction which wasn't their fault and gave them their money back which they did not have to do. Those folks need the Hilton and should book accordingly...

PS: we're coming back for 6 weeks next year...loved everything about this special place!

Paradise Lost

  • 1 of 5

We were very disappointed in this property. Although the location was good we found the actual accommodation sadly lacking. There was no space in the kitchen to cook anything and no dishwasher. The furniture was old and scratched. The door to the bathroom was a pocket door that made a terrible noise when it was closed. The inside was quite gloomy. The outside furniture was wrought iron and uncomfortable. Although the gardens were spacious there were no lounge chairs to sit and enjoy it. The noise of workmen, their radio, compressor and jackhammer at 8 in the morning from next door did not make for a pleasant stay.

We wish we could have stayed longer.

We enjoyed our stay in the one bedroom. The apartment is clean and well stocked. We particularly enjoyed the beautifully landscaped backyard and lanai. I would recommend this property to a friend.

The accommodations are very comfortable and private. We felt right at home! The unit came furnished with all the necessities. We loved that the location was directly across from the beach. The owners were very welcoming and accommodating, ensuring we had a pleasant stay. We would definitely return.

Casey Key Beach

An hour’s drive from Tampa, Casey Key stretches eight miles between Siesta Key and the Island of Venice and also runs parallel to the communities of South Sarasota, Osprey and Nokomis. This… lush secluded island on Florida’s west coast is predominantly residential; each with its own sandy shore… although…there are two public beaches, Nokomis and North Jetty Beach, at the south end.

A single road wends its way down the spine of the island where at some points the width averages less than a quarter mile. Often the road is barely more than one lane wide, where a leafy branch or hibiscus brushes a passing car… and, believe it or not… there are no traffic lights!

Two bridges cross at the north and south ends. The one to the north is a 1923 single lane Swing Bridge that’s well worth the crossing at Blackburn Point Road. This is an opportunity to photograph and cross a piece of history on Route 789 in South Sarasota County. The entire bridge rotates around an axis on a central support and requires no land side structures or counter weights. Boats with masts taller than eight feet signal the bridge tender who stops land traffic to rotate the bridge. “IF”… electricity fails the rotating mechanism… a giant “hand crank” comes to the rescue! A drop-in area is available nearby for kayaks and canoes on the east side with two waterfront restaurants frequented by locals called Aqua and Casey Key Fish House.

From the bridge it’s possible to head north on Casey Key Road and catch a glimpse of massive homes nestled in wooded natural beauty with a sandy strip of shoreline that’s all their own. The road eventually turns private where it’s quite difficult to turn around.

From Blackburn Point southward, there’s another four miles of monolithic dwellings featuring private cabanas and beaches on the Gulf and mega boats with docks on the Intra-coastal waterway.

With only 600 residents, this is the place where the rich and famous relax. Gulf-to-Bay property could be purchased for $20,000 in the 1950’s; today real estate on Casey Key averages in the millions, and up to $25 million for a small estate.
