We've just returned from a fantastic week. The host, Gaspare, couldn't have been more welcoming. The villa is in a great location, just 5 mins from the beach and town. This was our first holiday without a car and we really didn't miss it. The transfer Gaspare arranged for us was so excellently organised, even including car seats in the taxi, and no problems with our lack of Italian! The pool area was great and the apartment was very well equipt. A great family holiday!
We are just back from a wonderful week spent at the Villa di Fefi. Our host, Gaspare, could not have been more helpful and arranged everything for us to make our arrival really smooth.
The villa was even better than the description on the website, spacious, clean and well equipped. The entrance is lovely, and first sight is of the fountain and landscaped garden (look out for the fish and terrapins!). The air conditioning didn't let us down so all of us were able to sleep in comfort.
The pool is probably the best bit and we were seldom out of the water all week, the kids absolutely loved it. The beach is just 5 minutes walk down the road with crystal clear waters and shallows perfect for kids to play in.
All the locals are really friendly and you can spend hours at the restaurants by the Piazza watching the world go by. We can highly recommend Pizza in Piazza for good service and food.
The local market stalls and supermarkets are all good value and people are very helpful, we felt part of the village as soon as we arrived.
All in all a wonderful holiday that we would recommend to anyone.
We enjoyed very much holiday at Sara and Gaspar home. They are so kind and friendly. The house and the garden are very nice with a wonderfull pool. We hope to come back!
Accurate description of property. Pleasant garden which was well maintained. Air conditioning only available in the lounge area. Would have been nice to have it in the bedrooms but owner did provide fans.
Swimming pool was attractive and a good size. What is not in description though is that the pool is only available to guests from 9.30am until 6.30pm as the owner's apartment fronts onto the pool and the whole area is locked outside those hours. Also, the wearing of swimming hats is compulsory at all times (these were provided by owner).
Property was clean and well-maintained. Plenty of towels left for us. Gaspare the owner was at all times friendly and helpful and we would recommend it to other people.
Balestrate was initially disappointing as is a modern built up small town. Streets are not very clean, and there is a lot of graffitti. Very untouristy but that actually meant the place grew on us. There was a genuine atmosphere of a Sicilian town unaffected by non italian tourism. The town really comes to life at night when the streets fill with the towns people and a market appears.
Beach easily accessible. Not many brilliant places to eat (except for the two excellent fish restaurants and Cafe Europa where the locals have breakfast --try the aranchini ) . Found one fairly good restaurant in the square. First one on the right as you are facing the church.
Sicilians eat very late in the evening. Nowhere is open for sit down meals at lunchtime so it took us a few days to adjust to different eating habits.
SICILY: It’s more than an island! Discover Sicily and discover the world. The world’s first multicultural society, our island is Italy’s (and Europe’s) most historically cosmopolitan region, having been ruled by Asians, Africans and Europeans. Sicily is black and white and a million shades of gray. There’s no other place on Earth like it. Visiting Sicily is like visiting over a dozen countries in one! Our island is a unique place full of art, archeology, history, folklore and breathtaking scenery. And, of course, great food.
Nature’s treasures. The enchanting land where Archimedes taught and Saint Paul preached was a Greek colony, a Roman province, an Arab emirate and a Norman kingdom. The Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Swabians, Angevins, Aragonese and Jews made this unique island their own, leaving behind an eclectic history that you can still touch today. And Sicily will touch you. Sicily is Europe, Africa and Asia on one island. Greek tyrants, Arab emirs, Norman knights, Byzantine bishops and Holy Roman Emperors made it the place it is. Experience their eternal legacy in Phoenician settlements, Punic cities, Greek temples, Roman amphitheatres, Norman-Arab castles and Aragonese churches. Thirty centuries of history expressed in the Classical, the Romanesque, the Gothic, the Baroque… And God created Sicily. The place where the mountains meet the sea. Sicilia, the island in the sun, is home to Heavenly beaches, majestic mountains and Europe’s greatest natural wonder, Mount Etna. Sicily’s coasts are gold with orange and lemon orchards. Each scenic region offers something different.
Come visit our sunny island. We’ve been expecting you for three thousand years!
Is Sicily Italy? Yes, our island is Italian. And French and Spanish and Greek, with a few German and Arab nuances in its cultural mix. It is the world’s island. A place where time and tradition have been forged by peoples and faiths from the north and south, from the east and west. Beauty in diversity: Europe, Africa and Asia in one magical moment…
A world unto itself, this island, in all its complexities, is a land like no other.
In Sicily tourism (a word we don’t like too much) isn’t just sightseeing. It’s an entire culture.
