Extended stay but with uncertainty on end date. Owners were fantastic, even dropping by with a pastry. Towels and Sheets were high quality and down comforter on master. Woodwork is nice. Furniture is appropriate. Heat worked well. Good kitchen with great dining room for group meals. All in all we had a great stay. Knew it was an older house and price was great. More than I expected! So five stars. But know what it is. Not a new house in a new neighbirhood, but nicely done. Could hear a distant train on occasion. House was close to both downtown to the south and highway access to the north.
My family visited from Dallas for a memorial service we were attending. The house was just perfect for us and it was beautifully decorated. We had a chance to meet with Pat and Chuck and they brought us a delicious pastry from the bakery downtown. They really made us feel welcome in their home and we very much appreciated their kindness.
The Lane Family
I would not recommend this house to a large group if the purpose is to visit together, or a family with children because of it is full of antiques and breakable things. If all you want is a place to sleep and shower it would probably work. Recognize that all the bedrooms are upstairs but only one bath is upstairs. The TV's are in 2 of the bedrooms so no more than 2, 3 at the most, can watch at one time. The house was not clean, by my standards, when we moved in. Hopefully that is not always the case. I had to dump coffee grounds out of the filter basket and scour the pot because it had sludge in the bottom of it.
The house was kind of cute, cosmetically. but left much to be desired by our group. There were 6 of us and the only room large enough for all of us to sit together and talk was around the dining room table. None of the furniture was comfortable.
Plus: plenty of hot water and towels (inadequate places to hang them)
Minuses: *All the bedrooms are upstairs and the stairs are really creaky. * Bathrooms are small with no vanities to hold things like hair dryers or curling irons, etc. * Tiny wastebaskets in the bathrooms only. * LIghting left much to be desired.* 2 TV's, both upstairs in the bedrooms with inadequate seating. *The entire house was not clean. Dirty floors, dishes had to be rewashed, dusty furniture, spider webs draping the 'chandeliers' and walls. The coffee pot still had grounds in the filter basket and the pot still had old coffee in it. *Not located near city activities, attractions, or restaurants. Everything required at least a 20 minute drive, most needed more.
We stayed a week with 6 senior adults , one who was a very elderly lady. On the plus side, there was plenty of towels and hot water , a spacious kitchen and a good location. The air and heat worked quite well and auxiliary heat and fans were also provided. On the minus side, the bedrooms are all upstairs , which made it impossible for our elderly family member to sleep in a bed or have a bath. It would be great to at least have a sofa bed downstairs with a walk in tub. The only space with enough seating to gather together was the dining room table . One larger tv was upstairs with a very small love seat to sit on. So there was no place to watch television together as a family with enough comfortable seating provided. This is not a kid friendly home due to the many breakables throughout . I would not book this as a family friendly property.
This house is so awesome! It was so clean and so colorful. If you are an artsy person, you would love this home. My daughter got married in the Springfield area this past Sunday. I rented the home the week of the wedding because I needed a full size kitchen to cook for the wedding. I was so impressed with the supplies provided that I needed, pots, pan, utensils etc and although I brought my own, I was relieved to find additional items I could use. The house is also stocked with plenty of high quality towels and toiletries in case you forget soap. We slept in the small bedroom with the air conditioner because we like to be cooler at night. My parents slept in the larger bedroom off to the left upstairs with the door shut and said they stayed cool enough. We picked a good time of year to go as far as the weather and the comfort of the house temp, but I feel like the home would be comfortable no matter what time of the year. I did not see a single bug or cobweb! The house is spotless! I felt obligated to make sure it was as clean as I could get before I left, just to show my appreciation for how nice this home is. I felt like I was staying in a museum! Thank you Pat for sharing your lovely home with me and my family what a crazy week it was, but we all survived!
My husband and I had never stayed in a VRBO before. Well Pat and Chuck you have set the bar high. The house was peaceful, immaculate, and perfectly appointed. It was great to stay at this lovely Victorian Lady.
