|Minimum Stay||6 nights|
Whether you are looking for a place to relax and unwind while watching the nature and activity on Lake Barkley or if you want to be in the middle of the action out on the lake, Palisades Pointe can meet your needs.
Be among the first to experience this newly constructed 5200-square-foot waterfront property, which is being designed to work equally well for family gatherings, fishermen's escape, or for small executive retreats. This property is being offered at a focus group rate for the rest of 2015, as we complete small projects needed to finalize the house decor and wait out the summer to finish the landscaping. Those who provide constructive feedback regarding their stay and accommodations will be able to receive a significant discount during their stay and have the option to book in 2016 at reduced rates.
Decorated with simple elegance, yet convenience, Palisades Pointe sits high on the bluff that provides its name, while offering year-round, deep-water access from the private dock, which includes a covered slip, two pull-up slips and easy swimming access from the dock. With two observation decks plus a 360-degree cupola accessed by a stunning, wide spiral staircase that serves as the centerpiece of the home, the birds and animals often are at eye-level and the breathtaking sunsets are unrivaled on the lake. It is quite common to share the view with deer, groundhogs and other lake neighbors on a daily basis. In early 2015, eagle sightings were noted multiple times a week, flying near our upper deck and we've been enjoying the hummingbirds at eye-level all summer.
On the main level accessed by the front door off a grand porch is the master bedroom suite, featuring a king bed, a spa-like master bath and a small guest bedroom with a daybed that can pull out into a full-size. Another daybed that converts to a full is available just off the front foyer, across from the library, which is one of several gathering areas designed to encourage family game nights, quiet chats or an afternoon watching a sporting event on one of the several large flatscreen TVs strategically located on both levels.
On the lake side of the house, the main level features an open concept kitchen and eating area, with a large dining table that seats up to 12, plus seating for 5 at the nearby kitchen peninsula. This dining space opens onto a large upper columned porch, which provides beautiful views of the lake, year-round.
The lower level features a smaller kitchen, perfect for setting up barbecues or fish frys on the lower deck without having to travel to the upper level of the house. The lower deck offers a gas grill and access to the steps that lead to the dock. Most people in reasonable health report going down the stairs to the dock is relatively easy, but some may find it easier to use Eddy Creek Marina, which is less than 5 minutes away by car, rather than climb up the steps, which remain steep at the moment. We are working with the Army Corps of Engineers to ease the grade, but that will take some time. We strongly suggest using the marina if you have health conditions.
Also found on the lower lever in addition to the grilling kitchen, the game room and secondary gathering area are two queen bedrooms, a bunkroom that currently sleeps 6, an interior bedroom that offer a daybed that converts to a double bed. Two full baths also are on the lower level. There is additional room in the dorm for blow-up mattresses, if you need to sleep more.
We also have a Pack-N-Play that works nicely as a crib for the littlest ones, as well as a convertible high chair that attaches to a dining room chair.

Why We Choose Lake Barkley:
Large families with lots of teens and young adults like ours often have a hard time agreeing on a place where everyone can find something to do and relax. That’s not that case at Palisades Pointe! This is one of the only places in our families’ history that no matter what the age, the preferred activity level or how busy we may be during the week, everyone seems to prefer to be at the lake. It provides a perfect home base for all of the activities available within an hour drive or less – whether simply boating, fishing, swimming or kayaking off of the dock, spending a few hours hiking, horseback riding or watching buffalo or elk at Land Between the Lakes or taking one of the many short trips like antiquing in Cadiz, catching a show in Nashville, or splunking at Mammoth Cave, Palisades Pointe offers limitless possibilities. While we’d love to be here every week, until that is possible, we’re looking forward to sharing our passion for the house and the area with some new found friends who are willing help us make this the perfect retreat for those looking for a simple get-away.
Palisades Pointe is a celebration of the 20 years my husband, Jim, and I have been together and our 30+years of friendship. He's from Chicago and moved to my hometown of Evansville, IN for his first job, where we eventually met through mutual acquaintances. We've been blessed to raise 8 children together - with the youngest now in high school, the oldest a successful career woman and mother of our first grandchildren. The six in between are beginning to carve out their own adventures as young adults and we're excited to see what develops for them! Jim and I have enjoyed very successful careers in the corporate and entrepreneurial worlds, which continue to keep us from getting bored professionally. At this stage in our careers, we appreciate the ability of technology to enable us to do much of our work from anywhere and we are increasingly designing our work week to allow as much flexibility as possible. We're designing Palisades Pointe to support that plan, allowing us to have small group business retreats as well as large family gatherings, depending on our needs. But since we currently must divide our time between Evansville and Lake Barkley, we decided to offer our home to others who may want to enjoy, the sunsets, fishing and relaxed pace of life on the lake when we can't be here.
Kim Derk purchased this house in 2015
My husband and I have a very large family, including six teens/young adults still living at home, plus two adult children and two grandchildren. Everyone has very unique and diverse interests and hobbies but the one place everyone agrees they want to spend time is at Palisades Pointe. There is plenty for the active ones to do and those who are laid-back love to watch the wildlife that share the area with us.
We brought together our family and kids from multiple directions and the 17 of us spend an absolutely wonderful week on Lake Barkley. The house was incredible-never once did any of us feel like we were on top of each other. The kids (ages 10-16) truly enjoyed the downstairs game room and especially the bunk bed room. The big sitting room was the scene of games, movies, talking and Twister. There was so much to do and our owners seemed to have thought of everything. Plenty of kitchen room, lots of towels and bedding, very well maintained, cool cupola, tons of games both inside and outside and all-in-all we would change nothing.
The steps to the lake weren't that bad and almost everyone used them for cardio exercise everyday. The record was 2:14 minutes up and back by our 13 year old soccer playing grandson. The kids lived on the dock and in the lake. Fishing was excellent. We rented a pontoon from the marina for several days. Restaurants in area were so, so but The Oasis Restaurant provided couple breaks for eat out dining.
If you're looking for a big house to bring the family together or you have 4 or 5 married college buddies looking to relive the old days, this is your place. Highly, highly recommend. You won't be disappointed!
Our extended family vacations for one week every year in a house on a lake. We always have a great time but this rental was by far the best we have ever rented. We base most of this opinion on the owners. Kim was so helpful with every step of our plans and whenever we had a question, before and during our vacation. If you are considering renting a home in this location, you will not go wrong staying at Palisades Pointe. It was well worth every penny we spent. Thanks so much for the hospitality!!

I can not begin to explain what a great experience we had at this house. The owner, Kim, has been such a delight to work with and never hesitated to go above and beyond. She answered any questions we had and wanted to make sure we had a great time. The house is beautiful! The amount of people it holds is great for any large parties, and you never feel like you are on top of anyone else. The view you get looking over the lake it stunning as well. We were able to order the UFC fight, play games that were provided to us, there was a basketball net in the bunk room, GUITAR HERO ( my favorite ), and enough seating so that everyone felt comfortable. The view from, what we call the observatory, was truly breathtaking. I would HIGHLY recommend using this space and working with Kim. We will definitely be back in the future!
I recently stayed and celebrated my birthday at this lovely home with 14 adults. This is a great place for big groups, and couples with kids. The kitchen is well stocked with the basic amenities and open to the dining room as well. I would definitely recommend this home for your next vacation. Kim the owner was such a pleasure to work with as well as very accommodating. My family will be returning in the future and I can wait to enjoy my coffee while taking in the amazing view. The only downside to this lovely home for guest to be aware of would be the stairs. The stairs to the dock as mentioned in the property description are pretty hard to go up and down multiple time. They are not to steep but there are a lot of them. I would recommend if you have knee or health issues to be aware of the steps if you are wanting the direct lake access. But if you are wanting a great spacious one of a kind lake house with lake views this is the home for you! Thank you Kim for sharing your home.
Palisades Pointe is near the mouth of Eddy Bay, famous around the Twin Lakes for incredible fishing, particularly in the Spring and Fall. It is marked on all of the commercial fishing maps. The annual fishermen tell some amazing tales of catches just a few feet from our dock around a submerged road that was covered when the lakes were made. No need to even put a boat in the water if you don't want!
