About the property

1 double bedroom plus double sofabed - sleeps 4. Good base for touring Andalucia

The apartment is perfectly located just a 3 minute walk from a wide sandy beach and pleasure marina at Caleta De Velez with Baviera 18 hole golf course a 5 minute drive away. Right outside the accomodation is a large open air swimming pool open in the Summer months and tennis court for the use of guests only. A medium sized resort, Caleta has a number of cafes,bars and restaurants serving good food (especially fish and seafood) all within walking distance. Local shops and a bank are also nearby. There is a small marina. The balcony has a table and seating for 4 persons; breakfast in the sunshine! The 3rd floor apartment, bright & secure in a 4 floor building with lift and intercom entry, also has private parking for guests. No busy roads to cross for beach access. Sorry, no pets.

Local Lifestyle: Caleta De Velez is a versatile holiday location on the beach with the fishing harbour and marina just a few minutes walk. The apartment is perfect for those wishing to walk on holiday as all the local facilities are no more than 5 mins walk away. There is a small supermarket, bakery, newsagents, tobaconists and several bar restaurants within walking distance. And a beautiful walk along the beachside promenade to Torre del Mar - around 15 mins walk. On Saturday morning the street market sells everything from local crafts to fresh fruit and vegetables.

Velez Malaga & Torre del Mar: Torre del Mar is a much larger resort with entertainment for all ages. It is reached by walking approx 15 mins along the beachside walkway or is a 5 min drive. Enjoy beachside bar/restaurants serving fresh fish & seafood. Also Indian, Mexican, Thai, Chinese and of course, Spanish restaurants. There is a good street market on Thursday.

Cycle hire, go karting and horse riding is also popular. A waterpark is also open in July/August.

Velez Malaga has a large modern shopping centre with boutiques, huge Eroski supermarket, tenpin bowling and multi cinema complex. There is a modern tram service between the shopping centre and Torre del Mar. Or drive by car in 5 mins.

Exploring Andalucia: Caleta De Velez is a central coastal base from which to visit the most popular sights of Andalucia. Granada and the Alhambra Palace are a must see day trip, with the Sierra Nevada ski resort a short drive from Granada city centre.

Malaga city cente is exciting, cultural and has great shopping and tapas bars! Visit the castle and the Picasso museum. Nerja has great beaches and famous caves - just a short drive.

A good motorway network connects Malaga to Antequerra, Cordoba and Seville; for those wanting to travel a little further. Marbella & Pueto Banus, to the West of Malaga, is also a fun day trip.

N.B. There is a good and inexpensive bus service operating both East & West from the apartment. Visit both Malaga & Nerja without needing to take the car.

About Carl Cullimore

We, Carl and Maria Cullimore, came to Comares in 1999 with the idea of buying a holiday home…and we are still here!

We continue to be thrilled by the views and beautiful, colourful landscape of Andalusia. The white washed village of Comares is both unique and unspoiled yet only an hour from Malaga. The perfect rural base to relax and explore.

La Paz, our finca meaning “peace” was renovated and a swimming pool was built on the hillside. We converted part of the farmhouse to a self contained studio overlooking the pool and our holiday rentals idea became a reality when we welcomed our first guests in 2002.

Our next project was Villa Romo, spacious accommodation with pool and popular with families. Friends owning properties locally and wishing to rent their villas for holidays have entrusted us with the keys and management responsibilities.

We are proud to showcase a small, quality selection of individual villas, beach houses, apartments and even a seaside Fisherman’s Cottage. We provide a professional, bespoke service which can include the rental, marketing and maintenance of holiday properties in the Axarquia region of Andalusia.

3rd floor apartment with lift and intercom entry. Swimming pool open in summer months Mid June to mid September with lifeguard on duty. Fans provided in summer & radiators in winter. Property had all that we needed for the two of us. Carl met us at the apartment and had excellent local knowledge. Would recommend the apartment and we'll probably stay there again, if we haven't already bought our own place in the sun.

Only 2 min walk to the beach , bars and Aldi .

Super location, clean and tidy apartment.

We have stayed in many properties in and around the area and we found the location of this property just fabulous. Really close to some good bars and restaurants, including my all time favorite restaurant ‘Eclipse’. The apartment was a good size for the two of us, and was more than adequate for the week that we stayed their. The apartment was lovely and clean and had everything that we needed, yes it’s somewhat basic but it’s great value for money, and more do you need that somewhere clean where you can rest your head at the end of a beautiful day close to the beach. There is a balcony where you can sit and enjoy a glass of wine, you can see/hear the road on one side but really wasn’t a problem as it’s still far nicer than the view at home! We will definitely return. Thank you Carl and Maria, your hospitality and helpfulness was above and beyond our expectations.

Tired and a tad grubby, but overall a nice location.

The apartment was adequate, but even with a property classed as "budget" in a climate as hot as southern Spain, one would expect aircon. Sadly there wasn't any, just two woefully inadequate fans. There was a ceiling fan in the bedroom which did not work, would have been so much more comfortable had it been operating. The view one sees on the website of lovely green grass is not what one gets in this apartment - it's the roof of the shop below.

The apartment had all that one needs for a self-catering holiday, but just about everything we used needed washing first, and the furniture was very grubby.

The local area and beach are very nice, plenty of great restaurants and shops very close by, and the Saturday market is a must see. The private pool is nice, but as with many things in Spain, closed for siesta time.

Sadly we didn't get to see the owners during our 2 week stay.

Owner's Response: We are genuinely disappointed that these guests did not totally enjoy their holiday at our apt. Normally we meet guests on arrival but as we were attending a reception 50 kms distant we asked our cleaner, who lives 3 minutes walk away, to provide a welcome pack & meet these guests at 9pm with the keys & show them around the apt and answer any questions. This she did and in fact was contacted by them during their stay by text to answer a question re rubbish recycling. All visitors to our apt have my mobile number, e mail address & of course can contact us online via Homeaway at any time. We always respond. At no point during the 2 week stay did these guests contact us to express any dissatisfaction or request any assistance. We can only put things right/answer questions if we know before a guest leaves; these guests left on June 30th & only today 4 weeks later am I aware of any shortfalls or issues during their stay. Truly unfortunate. I must comment further to clarify some remarks made in this review: One should not expect aircon unless aircon is advertised and in this apt it is not and is priced accordingly. The ceiling fan did work & still works ( I can only assume that this guest did not understand how to turn it on). Yes, there are 2 additional fans. One photograph in our advertising clearly shows the balcony & East facing view. Another pic is of the beautiful gardens around the Pyramid apts. The pool opens for many hours & closes between 15.00 & 17.00 for the lifeguard to take a break. I agree, the beach is great & many quality bar/restaurants are a few mins walk. My apologies for a lengthy response to this - our first 3 star review. Carl & Maria

Excellent property.

We have stayed at this property many times, and have not needed to look for better accommodation. It's location is perfect for us, in as much as it's in a quiet flat location. There are no noisy bars, just peace and quiet. The flat is well maintained, though a more up to date TV (flat screen) would make it perfect. Just around the corner, you have a restaurant on the sea front called the Eclipse. Good food, nice and cheap. Across the road one way, you have a convenient ALDI store. Venture the other way, and you will find three more bars, also good food. We are booked again in January 17, for a one months stay, where will again meet the very friendly owners, Carl and Maria, who have always made us very welcome. Thinking of booking this apartment? then go ahead. You won't be disappointed. Dave and Sue. (frequent stayers) First booked in 2011.

The old TV has served us well but in December we will be investing in a new flat screen TV to compliment the DVD player, UK & Spanish TV and WiFi that is already provided. Caleta de Velez is both the local fishing port for Velez Malaga and a pleasure marina for motor cruisers and sailboats. The quaint marina is situated 2 kms East of Torre del Mar - a 20 minute walk along the seafront promenade.

Nearby are several small bar/restaurants serving a good selection of local dishes, especially local fish & seafood. Local shops, including a newsagent, grocers, tobacconist, a gym and a bank are a short walk. There is an Aldi and Lidl conveniently situated not too far from the apartment. The saturday local market is excellent.

Nerja and Torrox are approx 15 minutes drive East. Granada, and the Alhambra Palace, is around 90 minutes by car. The cities of Seville & Cordoba are approx 2 hours inland. As is Marbella and Puerto Banus, to the West of Malaga city - which itself is 40 minutes drive from the apartment. Buses run regularly from Caleta to both Malaga and Nerja.
