Enjoy our log cabin home away from the hustle and bustle of city life! Early in the morning, sit on the deck with a cup of hot coffee and enjoy the spectacular view of Pomme de Terre Lake, while listening to the birds singing! Watch the early anglers passing by in their boats to their favorite water hole or watch the water skiers right from the deck.
Thinking of finesse fishing? How about spin casting? Well, set that hook each and every time because you might land a 14"+ large mouth or small mouth bass and catch your limit of 5, or an 18" walleye with the right bait! A muskie angler? We'll put you in touch with the local Pomme de Terre Muskie Guide who will take you trolling on their pontoon boat.
Family time is great when going for a drive to check out the nearby state park and swimming areas by the lake! Don't forget to bring your life jackets! Visit the Corp of Engineers Museum by Pomme de Terre Dam or dine at the marina restaurant!
Take a drive through Tunas and head toward Lead Mine! Drive slow for the Mennonites are on their buggies or bikes! Stop in Celt for the Mennonites bakery or the store for a sandwich and groceries. Visit Lead Mine for hand-made quilts and farmers market vegetables along the road!

Hello! We are Shelby and Olga Kilmer! Our life is an adventure because we love to travel, when we are not working, of course! We visit family and good friends that live in the U.S. and Mexico! We've been to Canada and Italy! Both are beautiful places to vacation! We spend our other time enjoying our family and our good friends! We are avid anglers and that is one of many reasons for having our log cabin at Pomme de Terre!
Shelby is from Kansas and is a Math professor. I am from Texas and a Spanish interpreter now, after a late career as a Spanish instructor for 9 yrs and also a stint as a Spanish and Reading adjunct faculty. We're both bilingual in Spanish and English! We have two adult sons. Rich is married to Liz, our beautiful daughter-in-law, both university graduates. They enjoy family sports with our two adorable grandchildren, Karina, who has been a dancer since age 3 and now is learning the cello. Nicky, who continues learning to play the violin. Both are on a soccer team! Our other adult son, Chris, (Rich's twin) is an undergrad majoring in physics. He enjoy the outdoors, Astronomy, fixing computers, and reading, and has been to Guatemala with the Claretian Missionary Fathers. My mom, Delia, 90+, loves to travel and does not hesitate to go with us to Mexico, Chicago, Kansas, Nevada or any trip at a moments notice! She loves to crochet, embroider and make home-made flour tortillas. She loves fruit, vegetables & coconut water which she has enjoyed since a child! We live in Springfield and enjoy scenic drives through Mark Twain Forest, spot faults, and go camping and trout fishing, too! Nothing is more enjoyable for us than to get to know people from other walks of life, to learn about their customs, traditions and languages!
Shelby & Olga Kilmer purchased this cabin in 2001
We have been looking for "the place" to stay because we love to go fishing for bass and walleye. We selected this area because it is not a very busy lake by our standards. There is a small Nature Conservation Park not far and to the south is the lake! Our neighbors like the quietness of the area. We enjoy the scenic drives, the deer, raccoon, armadillos, possums, and turtles that we spot when in the area and vicinity! We enjoy fishing in Pomme de Terre Lake, because of the large & small mouth bass, walleye and especially the muskie! We're still trying to learn how to catch the walleye! In all, we enjoy our log cabin home a great deal especially preparing morning breakfast and sitting on the deck with our cups of steaming hot coffee and just soaking in view of the lake! We hope you will also enjoy your stay! Nuestro Hogar es Su Hogar! Our Home Is Your Home!
We were taken away by the fantastic view from the deck of this log cabin! We enjoy sitting on the deck during the day and evening and really appreciate the quietness and serenity of our log cabin's location!
We went to the Kilmers' cabin for our honeymoon and it was a perfect quiet location. The cabin itself was adorable and had most of what we needed. The porch was the best part and it was where we spent a lot of time relaxing, talking and enjoying the view. We learned about hummingbirds too! Thank you for your hospitality! We would definitely recommend you to our friends!
This cabin was perfect. Lots of room and the back porch was our favorite spot. We even enjoyed watching the rain from the porch. The owners are as nice as they can be!!! We will bring our family back for sure.
The checking in was rocky poor phone service but once we checked in we were happy to not deal with phones! The cabin is relaxing and cozy. The decor is is perfect. We enjoyed the breezeway perfect for grilling and to put a pool for granddaughter, then you have the deck to look at the lake perfect evening relaxing! We never watched TV did put in DVDs for granddaughter but we played games every night ! we found a swim hole close by did kayaking and swimming. Boat marina not far either rented pontoon at Nemos Marina had a blast! Planning a return next Summer.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Kilmer's cabin. The cabin was perfect for our needs. It was relaxing and peaceful and close to lake amenities. The back porch was a popular spot for our family to hang out and enjoy the view! I am ready to book another stay!
This is a very comfortable cabin to stay at.. The owner has included everything that is needed and you just need to bring your clothes and food. So if you're looking for that secluded get away, this is the place to go !
The down side is we were hoping to have a beach for the grandkids to play near the water. The view is beautiful though from the large deck.
Thank you for the stay..
The cabin was very clean and well maintained. Everything a guest could ask for was provided and then some. Its a bit off the beaten path, but well worth it when you get there. The views off large front deck are awesome.
Shelby and Olga maintained prompt and attentive communications and would highly recommend this cabin.
