Large, Family friendly, Remodeled Corner Unit, 2 bedroom, 2 bath, close to beach

This first / ground floor corner condo is a beautiful light, large two bedroom, two bathroom unit. It can sleep 6 guests (4 adults and 2 children), has two double rooms (one king bed and one king can be made into two twins/singles) and a brand new sleeper sofa. Very child friendly.

Ideal location close to pool (one of three) and parking. 8 tennis courts (6 grass and 2 sand) in the resort are just a few minutes walk away. We often have the pool to ourselves!

Poipu Beach, great for surfing, snorkeling and ideal for kids, is just a 5-8 minute walk away. With most of the walk along the beautiful lush green belt walkways of the Poipu Kai Resort. Less than half a mile from the beach. Nestled between The Marriott and Bennecke's Beach Broiler to the west and to the East along the beautiful Poipu Kai resort path is the Grand Hyatt (voted one of the best resorts in Hawaii by CONDE NAST TRAVELER.)

The condo also has a 'pack and play' travel crib that can be used for a baby. (Please bring your own crib bottom sheet.) The dining table comfortably seats 6 and we have a booster high chair for use if you have a little one. There are some childrens toys - a race track/city carpet, Duplo, some toy cars, and a few jigsaw puzzles.

The wi-fi access throughout the condo is high-speed. Instead of the usual resort wide 50 megabits, the owners pay for 'extra' high-speed at 300 megabits. Ideal for occasional check in with work or multiple devices streaming movies. Our condo has a desk and availability of HP OfficeJet with print, fax, scan and copy capabilities. (Please let us know if you need the printer, we'll arrange that.)

We also provide Cable TV (not just the basic service!)

There are two lanais; one off the master suite and a large lanai off the living room and kitchen with dining table and chairs (new in Feb. 2016). This lanai also has a lovely comfy chair and ottoman in which to relax with a cocktail and watch the sun set.

According to the best selling guide, 'The ultimate Kauai Guidebook; Kauai Revealed', The Regency at Poipu Kai condos "are among the nicer condos on the south shore."

78 degrees year round temperatures and more beaches per square mile than any other Hawaiian island makes Kauai a great place to visit!

David and I are both from Europe, but met in California. David is half Dutch and half Scottish. We have been married 10 years and have two boys, William aged 7 and Christopher is 5 years old. We live in Northern California where we have been based for 19 years (Emma) and 13 years (David).

Why David & Emma McCulloch chose Kauai

As a couple for the past 10 years and now as a family, we have been coming to Kauai every year. We love it. We wanted to own a home and like to visit as often as possible. We found the perfect place and now we want to share it with others. In December 2014, we had the opportunity to buy this condo and since then we have tried to make it our home-away-from-home. We love Kauai and hope to spend more time here. We will continue to improve our home and hope you will love it as much as we do.

What makes this condo unique

Our condo is very bright and airy. This corner unit feels very spacious at more than 1200 sq ft. With brand new white plantation shutters through out it gives the place a clean and bright feel. The lanai from the living and dining room over looks the mountains. You can eat dinner at the table and enjoy the views. Relax in the comfy lounge chair on the lanai with a pre-dinner cocktail.

We treat this condo like our home, we have left some toys for your kids to enjoy, a huge box of Duplo, and a scrabble board for the adults. We have supplied additional touches such as an electric kettle if you like a cup of tea and a great versatile recipe book! The trash cans aren't simple plastic, but large, stainless steel. There's a drying rack for swim clothes. Laundry basket too. Just extra touches. The washer and dryer are new and we have just purchased a beautiful grey sleeper sofa and matching love seat.

We have provided a yoga mat and weights (8lbs & 12 lbs) for your use in case you want to keep exercising while you're there!

This is a second home. Details matter, we care about our property. We are confident you will enjoy your first visit and come back to visit again and again.

Kauai is the Hawaiian island that has everything. The beaches are plentiful and not crowded. The snorkeling is world-class and accessible. The Aloha spirit is abundant so you feel instantly relaxed. It has adventure; from the hiking of the Napali Coast, to the lush jungles that can only be seen by helicopter, to kayaking the waterfalls along the Wailua River, to the breathtaking views of the Waimea Canyon - the Grand Canyon of the Pacific. Kauai is truly unique.

The Poipu region is perfect year round. Dryer than the north in winter and sunny with little seasonal change. Poipu Kai Resort is nestled between The Grand Hyatt Resort (with great restaurants ideal for foodies, glorious serene spa, horse riding stables and championship golf course) and Poipu State Beach, ideal for families with great snorkeling, showers, and life guard station.

The condo within Poipu Kai resort is very close to historic Koloa Town. Great local shops and fabulous local affordable restaurants, including the amazing Italian Pizzetta.

The condo is nicely located not too far from the road and parking, but sheltered from any noise by the lush gardens. It is near one of the pools, but far enough away that you're not disturbed by noise if you are traveling with little ones that nap or go to bed early. You can walk to the beach just 8 minutes away mostly on the resort paths - ideal for a beach wagon or kids traveling on scooters! Amazing views as you start your early morning run or stunning sunsets as you walk the resort paths to dinner at Brennecke's.

From a practical standpoint, there's a local supermarket in Koloa Town just 2-3 miles away (if you don't want to pay the tourist prices at the market shops in Poipu) and there's a brand new Safeway open at Puhi and of course Costco in Lihue.

You can drive round the whole island in 2 hours. You really get a feel for Kauai living. It's why as owners we've been coming to the Island every year for the past 10 years and we'll never tire of it.

  • The bathrooms are clean, with fresh paint and well stocked. They have plenty of storage and lots of fresh towels for your use. Beach towels are provided in addition to plenty of bath towels so you don't need to worry.

Charming Poipu home away from home

We loved staying here! Very comfortable and cozy, and three cheers for the king sized bed in the master suite. Most of our time was either spent in the kitchen or on the lanai. THe location is also great for short walks to great restaurants nearby. Don't miss Red Salt and the Hyatt never disappoints. Can't wait to return!

Not awesome.

We had an unfortunate experience staying at this residence that necessitated our transfer to a different condo within 24 hours of our arrival. Upon entering this unit, we discovered several problems that were related to poor maintenance of the unit. The most conspicuous problem was a pungent aroma of mold/mildew when we entered the condo, which we discovered originated from a significant build up of mildew and mold in the bathrooms, exacerbated by the heat and humidity. Within a few hours I was having respiratory symptoms from the mold and we had to move out of the unit due to the physical symptoms I was experiencing. Two other maintenance-related problems with the unit included dirty floors (our feet were black within the first hour of walking around in the unit) and a broken safe.

The unit itself was literally right next to the parking lot, and a road was directly behind the parking lot. The view from the lanai is the parking lot and said road behind it. There's no AC, so it's unbearable not to open every window in the vain hope that there might be a breeze coming off the road. We heard traffic and slamming car doors during the evening and early morning hours. While the unit is advertised as an 8-minute walk to the beach, if you have small children, it will take approximately 15-20 minutes of walking.

There was poor communication between the Parrish staff and the owner of the condo, which led the owner to believe we wanted to leave the residence because of the lack of air conditioning. The owner was defensive and ungracious when we contacted her to inform her of the maintenance issues with the unit that necessitated our moving. If the unit can be cleaned properly, and it's not a particularly hot time of year, it would be a lovely place to stay for some families.

The Parrish staff were very efficient and accommodating when it came to finding a different condo to stay in. We ended up staying in a lovely ocean-view condo in Poipu Kapili that was in excellent condition for a comparable price. There are many other fabulous condos that are of similar price range within Parrish that I would recommend over this one.

Owner's Response: We totally expected this kind of review when you demanded your money back even though we had reserved the condo for you and we would not be able to rent out to anyone else. Just because you didn't read about it not having air conditioning wasn't a reason enough for us to give you your money back. I'm sorry you thought it was. There was no mis-communication between us and Parrish - your husband email us BOTH at the same time explaining that the lack of air conditioning in August was a problem for you. As a few days went by and you and your husband realized we couldn't refund you the money, you decided to take it upon yourselves to email me directly and change the story to one about respiratory issues. Since we were there for 4 weeks just a month ago, with our children of 5 and 8 years old, both of whom have special needs and see a neurologist regularly, I really doubt that any of your issues you mentioned were a result of the condo. Parrish has high standards of cleanliness and you will see from our reviews (averaging 4.8/5.0) people often comment on a) the cleanliness of the place (the inside of condo was repainted in July too!) b) the care we take in our 2nd home (in the last 2-3 years we have remodeled the kitchen, got brand new sleeper sofa, all new bedding, brand new Plantation Shutters throughout, new desk and chair, new tv storage unit, new flat screen tvs, brand new washer and dryer, brand new furniture on both lanais, new lighting throughout and a brand new beautiful arm chair in the bedroom.) Given the fact that you were only in the condo 24 hours, you must have taken the road way to the beach. The detailed instructions we provide all our guests, explain that the walk to the beach is through the lush beautiful resort grounds, past the tennis courts and it does take 8 minutes, we know we have young children ourselves. I admit to being defensive, only because your claims were utterly baseless and because my husband and take a lot of care (and expense) in keeping our condo to the highest of standards. Once again, I think from all the other reviews, currently, I believe more than 20 reviews, you'll see that many people explain how helpful and gracious we the owners are. FYI not a particularly hot time of year? Kauai is a beautiful average of 78 degrees all year round with very little variation. It may climb to 82 in August, which is the hottest time of the year, the time of year you chose to go.

Modern clean condo close to pool and beach

We vacationed here with our 4 year-old son and loved it. The condo was clean, modern and comfortable, with plenty of room for us to spread out. The duplos, toys, puzzles, kid books, and beach toys were incredibly appreciated. It was so nice to not have to pack toys or buy beach stuff once we got there. We loved the shallow area of Poipu beach. Perfect for families with small children. We used the pool everyday, too, and met some other nice guests there. Great having the gas grill right at the pool for cooking dinners.

It was very hot, so we closed everything up during the day and opened it up at night, but we still couldn't get it comfortably cool. There are ceiling fans in each room plus 2 oscillating fans, which help, but it was tough for us to get to sleep at night. I would pick a cooler time of the year for our next visit. We made the best of it, staying out during the days and using the lanai in the evenings, though, so this is a very minor critique.

This is a great condo in a perfect location on an amazingly beautiful island. We'll definitely be back.

Lovely stay at this family friendly condo!

This was the perfect place to stay on our family vacation! We traveled with our 3.5 year old and 10month old and we all loved the condo. This was our 7th trip to Poipu and this was probably the best condo we have stayed at. Would definitely stay again!

The unit was well appointed, with modern furnishings and all the "extras" we could hope for (pool / beach toys, Legos for our kids to play with, coolers, etc). We enjoyed the full dining set on the lanai each day (and the beautiful view!). It is a short walk along a path to Poipu beach park and we visited the condo's pools daily. Although the condo does not have a/c we found it very comfortable - we closed the shutters during the day when the sun was strongest and the ceiling fans and other fans were more than sufficient to keep us comfortable in the condo.

The owners are very responsive and accommodating and made sure we had everything we needed to make our stay as comfortable as possible. Thank you for sharing your home with us. We hope to return again!
