The home has been in the family since 1955. The present owner was born and raised here.
This home was a wonderful spot for a restful getaway for my family. The house was very clean and the owners had thought of every detail. I actually over packed not knowing that so many extras would be there: the were nightlights, portable lanterns (flashlights), some kids' sand toys and the kitchen was well stocked. We wanted to enjoy the outdoors and beach as much as possible so we cooked each day so as not to have to go out and try to find a place to eat and wait etc. and everything we needed was available.
The owner was very friendly and met us upon arrival to show us the property and answer any questions.
The pictures don't do the house justice -- its a quaint mid-century design with some fun, funky features. Plenty of space. The beds were all comfortable. The location is wonderful: step off the driveway and pass 2 or 3 houses and you're at the path to the beach. With younger kids and stuff to tote, the short walk was ideal. We enjoyed the beach and water every day. We visited both the National Park (West Beach is very close and there are many spots to hike and great dune walks ) and the State Park (the 3 Dune Challenge was definitely challenging but worth it) and spent time on the neighborhood beach each afternoon. The beach was very nice, soft sand and not crowded. We returned to the house to clean up (ground level bathroom/shower was so nice to clean up the kids as soon as we got inside) and have dinner and walked to see the beautiful sunset each evening. The residential neighborhood was very quiet, even on a busy holiday weekend.
We would recommend this property and would stay here again. It would be fun to have a longer stay and take the train in to Chicago for a day.
We spent a week in this beautiful, spacious Mid-Century Modern home and loved it. The kitchen was very well stocked and the location couldn't be beat-- a half block from the white sands of Miller Beach. A great place for families. We were 3 kids and 3 adults and no one was ever bored. And make sure you check out the Paul Douglas Nature Center-- a fun, educational center for both the kids and adults. And beautiful, historic Marquette Park is nearby. We can't wait to go back!
We spent a week here, splitting our time between the beach and the big city (Chicago). The home is an easy walk to and from the beach, no stairs or big hills to climb. The beach wasn't crowded, even on the best days, and there was plenty of sand to set up tents and towels and nice shallow water for the kids (and grown ups) to play in. We took the South Shore line into Chicago a few times and that was a great way to avoid the traffic. This was a clean and comfortable home to stay in, perfect for the six of us (2 kids, 4 adults). The owner was very responsive and helpful. We would definitely do it again!
This is a gorgeous property that has been clearly a very loved family home. It is a fun mix of old and new. The three bedrooms were very comfortable, with everything we could need throughout the rest of the house. It is a short (2 block?) walk to the beach. We will definitely look to stay at this property again when traveling to the area.
