It was as expected by looking at the pictures, there were no surprises as to how it looked.

  • 5 of 5

I can't fully describe how much fun my family had at this house. We gathered from 3 different states and made memories that will last a lifetime.

The owner did stop by each day but we only took it as they wanted to ensure we had everything we needed and brought us fresh blueberries. He even brought the garbage can back up the driveway for us.

We had a great experience and would love to visit again.

The owners are super nice and showed great hospitality! They have a garden that we picked berries from and ate, they were delicious! Awesome lake view from the house and great fishing off the dock! We really enjoyed our stay! Thank you again for letting us pick from your beautiful garden!!

Comfortable house with a great yard for lawn games!

  • 3 of 5

Mr. McClendon was so very nice and very helpful, he brought us a huge pail of strawberries from his garden! The house is old but was nice and clean. The only problem I have is not with the house itself or Mr. McClendon, it is with the state of Alabama. After returning home I googled the issues I had with the house and found that Alabama has little to no building codes. Coming from North Carolina and selling appliances for more than 20 years I just assumed that gas ranges everywhere had to have either an overhead vent or a downdraft venting system. There was neither on the "all gas" range. Also, there were no GFB outlets in the bathrooms. If you are from Alabama and use to these things, this is a great house with yard space to play lawn games and the McClendons are great landlords! But as for me and my family, I think this was our third and final trip to Alabama.

Big enough for our party but won't be back

  • 2 of 5

Pros: Location is great. Price was fair for what it was. Nice boat house with lifts. Plenty of parking. Owner very informative

Cons: The house is old and has some problems. Our party doesn't require anything fancy but some of the problems were unacceptable. The bathroom light switch shocks you, can't turn off lights on ceiling fan (have to unscrew light bulbs) soft spots in floor, deck is sketchy. The gas stove is dengerous. One eye doesn't work and if cooking in the oven the other eyes don't work well. The house was not clean when we got there. Cob webs in corners and on ceiling fans. Mold/mildew on bathtub and toilets. the yard is huge but perimeter is very snakey looking and unkept. The biggest problem we had though was we felt like the owner was spying on us. He came around at random times and it just seemed like he was checking up on us. He even questioned how many people we had there and told me that there was a Maximum of 12 people on the property because the deck might fall off the house. We won't be back.

Owner's Response: Our cabin is not suitable for hosting parties larger than 12 people. They wanted to have additional friends join them durning the day. It is an older property, I have had the cabin and deck inspected by our city inspector and implemented his suggestions. I did request that they host their larger group at the public area on the island which has picnic tables and a dock. I did express safety concerns when they did exceed the 12 guest limit and were using our neighbors property. I live a few houses from the cabin. I always stop and speak to guest when I pass to see if averything is ok or if they need anything. None of these problems were reported until after they left. The electrical issue has been addressed. I am sorry they were not satisfied. Our goal is to always have happy customers.
