A king bed seems dwarfed in size within the spacious accommodations. There is a bathroom for convenience in the bedroom.

On the upper level, there are two additional guest bedrooms as well as a den. This is the perfect place to send the kids to play their games, watch TV, or challenge each other to foosball. The den is nicely appointed, a cozy couch also allows for sleeping as there is a queen size sleeper tucked neatly inside. A bathroom is in the room and allows convenience for both guest bedrooms. The view is also not lost here as, again, the windows are continuously providing the beauty of the water view right outside as well as a deck for those wishing to step out and enjoy.

The two guest bedrooms are appointed differently. One is perfect to bring comfort to another couple as it has a queen size bed. This bedroom also has an awesome view of the pond.

The other bedroom is perfect for kids or young singles as it offers its inhabitants a bunk with a pull out twin on the bottom. This room also has its own view of Baker Pond.

The conveniences do not end here. There is a garage to keep your car neatly tucked inside. A full size washer and dryer is in the garage and works well whether you are on an extended stay or just need to dry clothes for winter play. Kids love to play outdoors, making snow man and creating snow forts. Dry their clothes when they come inside for lunch and let them return to play in the snow with warm dry clothing.

A little different from expected but we made the most of it into a beautiful situation

  • 3 of 5

The listing had the bunk bed room including another small bed, which was not present. The pictures and listing notated it being lakeside and there was no lake. The major issue is with the cleaning fee. What exactly are we paying for if we had to clean up everything??? Dropping the trash miles away in the snow was an inconvenience and not mentioned beforehand. The ladies had a concern with the inconvenience of having the cable repair worker there for a couple hours. There was a complaint of stained pillows and sheets. The garage was not functioning so we did not have the 3 parking spots as advertised. The hot water for showers did not last very long, maybe enough for 2 showers consecutively, which is understandable but there was no forewarning. Very inconvenient. Also, the shovel for removing the snow was broken which made things difficult. The neighbor was ridiculously nice and helped. As I previously mentioned, we made the most of the trip.

Owner's Response: We're so happy that you ultimately enjoyed your stay! Helping our guests enjoy their time is important to us. That said, we would like to address the issues you have chosen to mention in order to clarify any misunderstanding. Bakers Bear is situated on a "seasonal" pond and will not always have water in it. This has been clearly stated within the first sentence of its description, found on our website as well as within the details of your rental agreement. The guest room that has the bunk bed has a third twin within the drawer underneath the bottom twin bunk. This too is as described on our website and within your rental agreement. We would have gladly helped you had you made us aware. We do professionally clean the home, the only requirement requested is to tidy the home and take your trash when leaving. You will find this to be industry standard throughout Big Bear. There are specific requirements imposed by the City in disposing of trash. For renters to dispose of their own trash one simply must drop it off at one of two sites, there is no charge. However, when management companies dispose of trash it is much different therefore the costs associated with it is passed on to the renters for the convenience of leaving their trash behind. This is clearly stated within your rental agreement as well as the postings inside the home (as required by city code). It is standard practice for all or most companies to charge $25.00 for each bag of trash disposed by the manager. We were very pleased that the cable company was able to trouble shoot and repair the issue quickly without you missing a single night. Sometimes things are disappointingly different. Although the garage was not available, you should have had more than enough car space as the driveway is very spacious and will accommodate 4 cars easily. The required parking at this home is 3. We hope that our description here helps you understand things more clearly. In addition, please take the time to review these specifics within your rental agreement in order to help you see that are very responsible in our detailed information to our guests. One of the many things we pride ourselves in is being thorough and making sure our guests are well informed. We believe an informed traveler is a much happier one. In closing, we wish that you contacted our staff during your stay we would've been more than happy to clarify or assist. Thank you for sharing, we hope to welcome you again.

Great location, house could use some fixing up

  • 4 of 5

We just finished a three-night stay in this home with eight of us total - four adults and four kids.

It's located in a quiet and beautiful neighborhood full of upscale homes. It's situated right on a pond giving it amazing views out the back. The pond is dry because of the drought, which worked out great for us. It was like having a giant backyard filled with snow to play in, plus a small hill in the middle perfect for sledding. We loved looking out in the morning and watching the coyotes run across the snow, seeing the sunsets, etc.

The interior of the home is a little worn and dated. The house is for sale and it feels like the owners have kind of given up on it. There's no cable TV, just DVD and VHS (!) players. Also, though we could get a WiFi signal, we did not have internet the entire weekend. Combine that with spotty cell phone and data service and it was challenging to get on the internet or check emails. The beds were comfortable, but some rooms did not have proper window coverings and there were a lot of spots around the house that needed to be patched and painted. The kitchen was minimally stocked and we had to run out for trash bags, paper towels and detergent for the dishwasher.

The management company was easy to work with and responsive except for one bad experience during our stay when I called to tell them we did not receive the towels we had paid extra for, the internet did not work and we had ordered and been charged for firewood but the house has a gas log. I also thought the cable was broken but was quickly told the house didn't come with cable which was clearly stated in the house description. When you advertise that the kids can "watch TV" it kind of implies that there's TV to watch. Luckily we brought DVDs, but some in our party were sad to miss the football games.

It was an easy drive into town and to Bear Mountain for skiing. We also drove down the road to Fawnskin for sledding which was really fun.

Overall, the house worked for our needs - it was in a fantastic location, but was pretty average inside. 3.5 stars.
