Hello and thank you for your interest!
We are a large, blended family, with a crazy passion for traveling! Between the two of us - a British expat former public school teacher, and a retired Captain of the YFD, we've logged a lot of traveling mileage! From the Island of Borneo, to the South of France and all the way up through the Highlands of Mexico..we've lost count at this point! We found our home after an exploratory trip along the Gulf Coast of Florida. Driving though Dunedin on our way to the airport (Atlanta airport, we were a bit off track...exploring:)), we followed main street as it veered off through town. Loving the look of the town - beautifully kept and creative shop/restaurant fronts, we detoured along a couple of residential streets. The lack of high-rises that hog so much of the scenery in other Floridan coastal towns was an instant appeal...Dunedin seemed to embody a vibe we'd been looking for our entire trip - that "Old Floridan" feel that has become so elusive. Recently, on a trip down with our teens, we spent our last evening bike cruising around town. At one end of main street, playing on a huge inflatable screen, Gene Kelly in 'Singing in the Rain' crooned to locals and popcorn vendors sitting on blankets beneath gigantic live oaks covered with moss. Five blocks down, outside Skips Bar, members of the high school bagpipe band wailed out a few tunes. Further down a Jazz singer was singing her heart out at Kelly's, and beyond that, a firework display was going off. The atmosphere was alive, exciting and bustling...and this was all on an ordinary friday in April. It was pure magic.
Sharon Gonzalez purchased this cottage in 2014
At the bottom of our property sits a gate opening onto the Pinellas Trail. It's a ten foot wide bike/pedestrian pathway to local bars, shops and the beaches. We ride our bike everywhere! Why? Because it's easy, fun and we need the exercise! The house sits on a quiet, residential street, lined with 50's style Floridan ranches - each a different color and each different. The road was formed with hand laid house bricks in a herringbone pattern over sixty years ago...and is as cute as a button. This is an unpretentious neighborhood populated with outdoorsy, dog-walking friendly people. It's like stepping back 50 years and we find that very appealing! The house itself has been completely remodeled, is very comfortable, quiet and is quite literally a private, tropical oasis! We've landscaped both rear and front areas around the property with banana, pineapple and fruit trees, crushed shell and solar lighting.
Everywhere is within biking distance! Whether you fancy art classes at the Dunedin Fine Arts Center (ask us about it!!), Honeymoon island for an early morning walk, or breakfast at Brenda's on the Causeway, or The Covered Bridge...it's all very, very close!
Great holiday home with all you need for a fantastic holiday. Clean, tidy, comfortable beds, lovely linens, plenty of bath towels, quiet air con. Pool and hot tub were a hit with the kids. Bikes were used every day to cycle the short distance into Dunedin. We just loved it. Thanks Sharon, as you say ....We had a blast!
We had the privilege to stay in this home. I like clean homes that we stay at. Very clean!!!! The owners were absolutely wonderful to work with. Sharon wanted to make sure that we had a great family vacation. She even told us about Honeymoon Beach. Which turned out to be our favorite beach and the one where we saw manatees up close!!!! Our girls never wanted to get our of the pool and hot tub. There is such a nice area to sit and relax on the patio while we watched the girls swim. They have a covering over the pool so you don't have to worry about the bugs! We so enjoyed the grill to cook our meals on! As a busy Mom, it was nice not having to worry about dishes.... there is a dishwasher!!!!! This home had all the amenities that are needed to have a amazing vacation. This home is close to so much that we never were bored! Definitely walk on the pier and watch the sunset close to the house. We would stay here again and again. It is hard to find such caring home owners but this place has them. Makes the stay so much more relaxing.
We had a lovely stay at the Mermaid House! This house is so comfortable, appealing and welcoming. Darling inside, amazing yard and pool area. The location of this house is also ideal. A quick car ride will get you to several different beaches, restaurants and attractions. It was hard to go home!!
Sharon and her husband are wonderful to work with. Very professional and so friendly. They responded quickly to questions and even checked on us during a storm.
Thank you Tom and Sharon for making our stay so nice!

The Mermaid House was perfect! Beautiful - peaceful - the pool & hot tub are awesome.
The access to the bike trail into the quaint town of Dunedin is so convenient - there are many shops & plenty of restaurants just a short bike ride away.
We will definitely be returning to the Mermaid House - pool, beach & fun all in one!
Thank you for a lovely family vacation!
The Mermaid House is the perfect vacation destination for 2 - 6 people.
We had Mom, Dad, Son, Daughter and both their other halves and everyone had an absolutely fabulous time.
There are a ton of things to do and see in the vicinity of Dunedin.
We sometimes went in separate directions and sometimes hung together.
It would be impossible to mention all the amenities associated with The Mermaid House but here are a few.
Hammock park and the Butterfly garden
Honeymoon Island State Park especially during the week. They have a dog beach. The house pass is a really nice perk.
Weaver Park Pier and the Island Causeway for fishing although we saw a porpoise swimming around off the pier.
A trip up to Weeki Wachee State Park. About an hour north but Paddle Adventures gets you a kayak/canoe and a leisurely 3
hour trip down the river with Manatee sightings(we saw several including a mom and baby) and lots of places to pull off
and picnic and swim.
A short trip over to Safety harbor. On the bay with a large no. of Manatees sighted off their pier.
Biking all over especially in to town.
One of Dad's faves - hanging out at the back yard beach/pool/spa.
I could go on.
The thing we weren't thrilled with was having to leave.
Oh well there is always next year.
Speaking of which this property is going to get a lot of repeat bookings so you might want to
jump on the band wagon before it is to late.
The owners are sweethearts to deal with and dealing with owners as opposed to real estate people is such a blessing
We truly enjoyed our visit to the Mermaid House! It's location on the bike path makes it an easy jaunt to town, the market, and even the beach. It is clean, cozy, and quaint. The pool and hot tub were our favorites! Thank you for sharing your beautiful home away from home!
