About Michael Byrnes

Marie and Mike grew up in Bristol but lived around the world with more than 20 years in China. The returned to their home town in 2006 and purchased Weetamoe Farm in 2008. The Weetamoe Farm Cottage was originally the caretaker's cottage. The Cottage was refurbished in 2015.

Michael Byrnes purchased this cottage in 2008

Why Michael Byrnes chose Rhode Island Coastal

Growing up in Bristol we always admired Weetamoe Farm and the main house was one of the nicer and more historic properties in the area. Built in 1811 is was initially a federal style six room home with a hip roof. Weetamoe Farm was named after King Philip's sister-in-law, Princess Weetamoe. (see Nathaniel Philbrick's The Mayflower). The property is still a working farm with goats, cows, ducks and chickens. We are la mere 5 minute walk along a tree shaded path to beautiful Mount Hope Bay. The Cottage is about 1 mile to Roger Williams University and less than two miles to the Historic Bristol Waterfront.

What makes this cottage unique

The cottage was refurbished in mid-2015 with all the modern amenities. . It was a caretaker's cottage and is about 150 years old. Located on a quiet tree shaded property and bordering on the historic Mount Hope Farm it is situated for peaceful walks to the waterfront and through fields and along wooded trails. On RI Route 136 it is about half way between Providence and Newport and and hour to Boston.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Dear Mike and Marie,

Thank you so much for sharing your fabulous cottage August 11,12! The cottage is gorgeous, and the entire property is captivating! Thank you for taking time to educate me about the many varieties of ducks, chickens and goats. Your vegetable gardens are amazing, I enjoyed and admired the vast variety of plants. It was a treat to have 2 sweet affectionate cats greet us!

Your property is stunning, thank you!

Charming Cottage

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed with our 3 kids for a few days in Bristol. This is a great hotel alternative and Bristol is a great place to explore. Lots of animals to see and the walk down to the water is a great adventure for the kids.

Beautiful home away from home!

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing weekend at Weetamoe cottage! The pictures just don't do this beautifully decorated cottage justice. We stayed here while our sons played in a tournament at Roger Williams which was only a mile down the road. The grounds are peaceful and lovely and we loved visiting the animals on the farm.

Mike and Marie were extremely welcoming and made us feel right at home.

Looking forward to visiting this location again...hopefully soon!

Our wonderful pre and post wedding experience

  • 5 of 5

My family and I just experienced a fabulous two night stay at Weetamoe Cottage! The cottage is located very near our wedding venue -Mt. Hope Farm. The cottage is attractively furnished and a short walk to a lovely scenic beach area. It is conveniently located near Newport which has so many attractions. Michael was very accommodating and and was prompt in returning our deposit. I would recommend this property because of its location, quaintness, and management.

Beautiful farm cottage furnished like a B&B

  • 5 of 5

We especially enjoyed the farm atmosphere at the Weetamoe farm cottage. Beautiful property with goats, chickens, ducks, raspberry bushes etc. Very well situated with easy access to Newport beaches or downtown Bristol or the bike path. Cottage itself is beautifully furnished and updated with modern touches. Mike and Marie are welcoming hosts and interesting people. We also enjoyed our interactions with them.

Beautiful Weekend on the Farm

  • 5 of 5

We had a fabulous time staying at the Weetamoe Farm Cottage! It was impeccably clean, very well decorated and cozy. There were 7 of us and the cottage was plenty spacious enough. Mike and Marie were very hospitable and we really enjoyed learning about their farm and the town of Bristol. Downtown Bristol is just a short drive away, and there is a great walking path from the cottage to the bay. We will recommend this to any of our family and friends looking to spend time in RI. We wish that we could have stayed for the whole week!
