About Carl and Valerie

Valerie and I are transplants from deep in the woods of Maine. We came here on vacation in January of 2012. We have read that people come here and hear the mountains calling them. We heard, went home, packed up, sold the house and here we are. We have never regretted our move.

We are laid back, "go with the flow" people. We have 2 lazy house cats and Sid, The Mayor. Sid is an older Jack Russel with a sweet disposition. He is a gentle old man that prefers non aggressive breeds.

Carl and Valerie purchased this cottage in 2012

Why Carl and Valerie chose Asheville Area

We chose this house because our land is so beautiful. When we bought it, it had been vacant for years . We have spent the past few years bringing our land back to a beautiful, park like setting.

What makes this cottage unique

We are so close to a multitude of attractions, but when you come home, you are in a safe, peaceful area with views of the mountain tops. We have turkeys, the occasional cow, and chickens that wander through our yard. At night you can hear the tree frogs and owls calling.

We have a large variety of birds that visit the feeders, perfect for birdwatching.

Awesome Experience!

  • 5 of 5

My girlfriend and I stayed at The Shed this past weekend. Our stay was for 3 nights total. Valerie and Carl were awesome hosts! They provided almost anything we could think of. They had spices in the kitchen, towels in the bathroom, wood outside for the fire pit, a grill with grilling tools, etc.

When we arrived, we met Valerie and chatted for a bit and then she handed us an extra roll of paper towels and let us get settled in. I tried to get on the internet but I had issues, and I walked right over and knocked on Valerie's door. She came over right away and helped me figure it out.

The Shed as a whole was an awesome living space. Complete with everything you could need. Running water, a full bathroom, a TV, a bed, a full kitchen, etc.

Valerie even had a list of some suggested items to do in the area, the closest grocery store, etc.

My girlfriend and I are already talking about visiting again. We would suggest the Tiny Shed to any couple looking to get away for a relaxing weekend together.

I look forward to going back.

Thanks again, Valerie and Carl!

Wonderful stay!!

  • 5 of 5

My husband & I loved our stay at The Shed! Carl & Valerie are wonderful people & they have created a wonderful place to stay! The Shed is perfect for a couple & all the extra touches really make it special. It's very close to many different places around Asheville & we thoroughly enjoyed going to Biltmore & riding on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The tiny house is very homey & very clean & again all the extra touches such as cream & sugar in the kitchen & even Kleenex in the bathroom were very much appreciated! It's great to go to a place where all the linens, towels, toilet paper & paper towels, etc are included! We can't wait to go back to The Shed again!

Wonderful stay!

  • 5 of 5

This is one of our best VRBO stays yet. Close to Asheville, but out in the country surrounded by the foothills. Well supplied and very clean. Valerie met us when we got there....a nice welcome after a day on the road. We enjoyed sitting out in the fenced back yard and having our coffee. This is a very cozy home, nicely arranged inside for comfort. I would certainly stay here again.

A very special place

  • 5 of 5

This location is perfect for someone who wants to be close to Asheville as well as all the wonderful hiking spots around. I really enjoyed the quiet and beauty with a private little side yard to relax in. The house is super clean, very comfortable, and has a great kitchen to allow freedom to cook some tasty meals. The owners are really kind and welcoming. I hope to return soon.

Didn't want to leave!

  • 5 of 5

My son, dog, and I stayed at The Shed for 4 nights. By looking at the photos on the listing I was a little worried that it might be too small, but it wasn't at all. It was so comfortable and had so many touches to make our stay convenient. Plenty of kitchenware to cook meals and a propane grill out back that worked great. We enjoyed the cute fenced backyard very much. It was perfect for our dog, and we could eat outside and make smores with the small fire pit (they even supplied wood for the pit). It was so peaceful at night. They have tiny candles hanging from trees, watched the fire flies, listened to the bugs, and the stars were amazing.

The location is great! We spent half our time at Lake Lure which was about 30 minutes away in one direction, and half our time in Asheville which is about 20 minutes away the other direction. Entry into Blue Ridge Parkway is on the way to Asheville. We enjoyed exploring Fairview as well. Grocery stores, restaurants, gas stations were easily accessible.

Valerie and Carl were very welcoming and friendly. They live on the property and are available if you need anything, but at the same time give you privacy. The Shed is adorable and they did such a great job creating it. The bed was soooooo comfortable! Slept like a baby! Wish we could've stayed longer, and we can't wait for a return visit.

Thank you for such a wonderful stay Valerie and Carl!!
