About Carl and Valerie

Valerie and I are transplants from deep in the woods of Maine. We came here on vacation in January of 2012. We had read that people come here and hear the mountains calling them. We heard, went home, packed up, sold the house and here we are. We have never regretted our move.

We are laid back, "go with the flow" people. We have 2 lazy house cats and Sid, The Mayor. Sid is an older Jack Russel with a sweet disposition. He is a gentle old man that prefers non aggressive breeds.

Carl and Valerie purchased this guest house in 2012

Why Carl and Valerie chose Fairview

We chose this house because our land is so beautiful. When we bought it, it had been vacant for years . We have spent the past few years bringing our land back to a beautiful, park like setting.

It is constantly evolving with interesting plans for the future.

What makes this guest house unique

We are so close to a multitude of attractions, but when you come home, you are in a safe, peaceful area with views of the mountain tops. We have turkeys, the occasional cow, and chickens that wander through our yard. At night you can hear the tree frogs and owls calling.

We have a large variety of birds that visit the feeders, perfect for birdwatching.

Wonderful Thanksgiving weekend!

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay in this charming little cottage. Very clean with everything we needed including the fenced in area for our dog. Also conveniently located to Asheville where we visited the Biltmore and the Christmas lights at the NC Arboretum. Many antique stores in the area as well. Valerie was wonderful and very welcoming. We will be back!

Perfect Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

This cozy cottage is the perfect place to get away for a nice, peaceful vacation in the mountains. All amenities are provided as well as a personal touch. Valerie is a lovely person and host without being at all intrusive. She was very helpful with answering questions and giving suggestions once she knew of our interests.

My daughter and I have stayed here twice with our 2 dogs. The cottage is very clean, has a nice fenced-in yard to enjoy and is just minutes away from Asheville and surrounding areas. It is located off a country road with beautiful scenery. We look forward to our next visit!

Southern comfort

  • 5 of 5

Carl and Valerie was amazing. They went beyond normal and made everything perfect. When booking, we had certain plans but at last minute had changes but Valerie was perfect to work with. We found the cottage so clean and filled with all the extras you could need. Valerie took extra time to look up destinations for me and had them taped to the door. I have stayed in many vrbo's through the years but never had one with this personal touch. The previous reviews on this place is what sold me on booking it. Now I am adding to the list of reviews hoping to share a great experience with others for future bookings. We didn't have any pets with us and we wasn't charged the extra pet fee. The only thing I can even think that wasn't perfect was the well water. It does have a little smell to it but I am very sensitive to smells so somebody else may not even notice it. Valerie did mention this and I knew it ahead of time. You won't regret booking this cozy place to come and get away and see beautiful Asheville.

Weekend in the Mountains

  • 5 of 5

My girlfriend and myself enjoyed a quick getaway weekend in the mountains at "The Shed" away from our actual home located near the beach in Wilmington. The Shed is a really cute cottage that fit our last minute mountain plans perfectly. Our first night was spent in the backyard with our small dog enjoying a warm fire for a good 4 hours. All of the supplies for the fire were already set up by Valerie and Carl. It was fun watching the sunset over the mountains and the peak fall colors of the trees. Our next day was filled with rain so we just cozied up, made some warm meals, before heading out to Asheville for dinner. All in all it was a great experience! On our drive home the following day we got a text that we had left some speakers and Valerie was kind enough to mail them back to us the very next day. They couldn't have been any nicer and again just a perfect quick mountain trip!
