Offering a winning combination of being well off the main road for privacy and quiet without being remote, with a huge water view and striking sunsets over Rodman's Hollow, the adjacent 230-acres of conservation land to the west, this stunning property is a short walk or bike ride away from some of the island's most dramatic and secluded beaches along with a freshwater pond perfect for swimming.
This newly renovated saltbox is hip and relaxed, with a large, spacious open plan upstairs featuring a large deck for grilling and outdoor dining and a living/dining area accessed by a spiral staircase. There are four bedrooms: three downstairs bedrooms with patio access, two with queen beds, one with an antique full bed; plus a smaller bedroom with a twin bed. There are two full baths, one downstairs with a clawfoot slipper tub, and one upstairs. There is also a spectacular outdoor shower. Private parking for two cars is included.
The structure sits on 3.5 acres, which it shares with a barn and two additional cottages, one of which is available to rent as a pair that sleeps 12 - 14. Please inquire for pricing and availability.
Block Island is a great getaway and offers bird watching, deep sea fishing, hiking and biking. 40% of the island is conservation land, so trails are abundant. There are numerous beaches ranging from sandy, family friendly beaches to the more secluded south coast beaches popular with surfers and surfcasters. Explore the main port with its cute boutiques and a variety of dining options.
Block Island is accessible by plane (a short 15-minute flight from Westerly, RI) or by ferry. Ferries depart from Point Judith, RI; Newport, RI; Fall River, MA; New London, CT; Montauk, NY; Orient Point, NY. Car reservations are available if you book well in advance on some of the ferries. Most visitors rely on a bike or moped. I'm new to VRBO! I live with my husband and son in Boston, MA. Few other properties on Block Island offer the combination of a large ocean view and a site alongside Rodman's Hollow, a 230-acre nature preserve, in addition to being well distant from the main road to allow for privacy, peace and quiet. Vail Beach, one of the island's most stunning and secluded beaches with a long sandy stretch and great surf, easily accessible by footpath, and Fresh Pond, great for swimming, are both a short walk away, only 5 minutes by bicycle. A more lovely and peaceful spot would be difficult to find.
Dean was a great host. The property exceeded expectations. The lack of stove was actually a plus. Kitchen was charming and functional. No Clutter. Very stylish. The outdoor shower is like a piece of art. Quite private. Very clean. Would highly recommend and definitely go back. There are steep spiral stairs so prob not ideal for small kids. Nice views from the downstairs bedrooms and the upstairs deck and living area
My family and I just returned from a week's stay at Dean's saltbox cottage. We have vacationed on Block Island for over a decade, and we have nothing but accolades for this property. A great cottage for a family with older children/teens. Outdoor shower was a big hit with everyone. Views are indeed breathtaking. The location receives fantastic breezes, which were welcomed in mid-August heat. While the mainland was enduring 90+ temperatures, we were in the low 80's and cool. We will definitely make plans to return. Dean was a wonderful host and was very responsive with our inquiries and requests.
To say our trip was unforgettable is an understatement! The property is absolutely beautiful, with fantastic views of the ocean, as well as a panoramic view of the southeast portion of the island. The home was beautifully decorated and very comfortable for our group of four. What a great place to come back to and relax in after a day at the beach! The kitchen was more than ample for us as we had most of our meals in town, but was perfect for cooking up a quick snack, or for enjoying a barbecue during the sunset. I can't thank Dean enough for his hospitality and friendliness during our stay. He answered any questions we had, showed us everything we needed to know about the property, and made us feel very welcome. We will definitely be back!

Please note that smoking and pets are not allowed. Smoking inside will result in an additional cleaning fee of $500 to be deducted from the security deposit.
Maximum occupancy is 7 people and is strictly enforced. Guests exceeding the maximum occupancy will face immediate eviction without a refund.
Parties/gatherings with those not staying on the property are not allowed. Guests who host gatherings exceeding the maximum occupancy will face immediate eviction without a refund.
No open flames.
The grill grate should be cleaned after every use. The grate must be cleaned prior to departure. Uncleaned grill grates will result in an additional $50 cleaning fee to be deducted from the security deposit.
Sandy towels/swimsuits must be shaken out/rinsed before being laundered. Sand in the washer and/or dryer will result in a $200 penalty to be deducted from the security deposit.
Mopeds are not allowed on the property. Guests bringing mopeds to the property will forfeit $400 from their security deposit.
Guests are not permitted to cross the neighboring property to the south in order to access the cliffs. Violations of this rule will result in a $200 penalty to be deducted from the security deposit.
Please do not touch, stand on, or climb over rock walls.
