Diane or Greg Jenks purchased this apartment in 2014
Passing by Bear Lake for years always inspired dreams of having a place there of our own. So, when we found the house and apartment on the lake with 3 bedrooms & 3-1/2 baths, (though the need for renovation was apparent!) for a price we thought we could afford we said "WOW! Lets do this." We designed and did the renovations ourselves and dedicated to house to Jinx's late sister "Mick" and the apartment to Jinx's late mother "Midge," both whom would have loved sitting on the patio or dock or fishing for Bluegill out on the lake. The apartment is named "Midges Pad" after Jinx's Mom who although has passed still watches over all the fishermen that would only love to match her ability. She loved the water and fishing was her life. We bought the Property to share with family, friends and special guests to enjoy this beautiful setting.
Quaint & quiet behind front house, views of Bear Lake. Midges antique bedroom furniture and Art Nouveau canvases throughout the apartment. Step back in time with unique furnishings in living area that include a 50" TV and wireless Blu-ray DVD player for streaming music and video entertainment. We love the light wood-like rustic wallboard and the 70'S wall covering in the bathroom. New faucets in kitchen and bath add a modern convenience to the flair of the retro look. Midge was a great cook so the apartment is set up to cook with some spices, dishes, pots and pans and a grill so you can eat in or dine out. The local eateries would even have her approval which she never gave easily when it came to restaurants. We always feel like we are home when we are in this apartment. The shallow sandy bottom of the lake is great for small children and water games. The sunsets and stars are spectacular. Sitting on the dock benches with a cup of coffee in the morning or glass of wine in the evening listening to the water all around is relaxing beyond compare. Being just a mile away from the Rocking R Ranch, the Saddle Up grocery store and Grill 44 is so convenient. The close proximity to so many activities is another thing we love about the property.
The cottage and lake was just as it was presented. Having been to the lake before, I knew what it was like. But the lake in front of the cottage was absolutely perfect for my four granddaughters, ages 1 1/2 to 7. They loved it, as we all did. I was a little concerned about the road in front but it was not an issue at all. The cottage was very roomy, more so than I thought. There were 4 adults and 4 children in the cottage and 2 adults in the apartment, where all we did was sleep, but worked out perfectly. Both places were very clean and very nicely appointed. The cottage had a very "cottage" decor, almost felt like Cape Cod. Diane and Greg were very accommodating, offering very helpful information about the surrounding area. Took a day trip to the Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes, don't miss the Pierce STocking drive. Went to Lake Michigan and loved the waves. I would suggest a wonderful beach along the lake near Onekema near Portage Lake. The beach has no rocks at all with beautiful sand and gradually gets deeper. Also nearby is a pier which is always nice to walk on. Nice little park and a great ice cream store right next to it.
It was a wonderful week and couldn't have asked for the cottage or apartment to be any better. My adult children said they forgot how much they loved it there, and certainly the cottage helped to make it so!
This rental was very good. It was as described. Clean, convenient, comfortable and well-equipped. Nice little extras provided and greatly appreciated. Diane and Greg were very accommodating. Correspondence answered promptly. Overall a very pleasant experience.
