We didn't want to leave!

  • 5 of 5

My family has visited DC many times but we all agreed that this was our favorite visit by far, and the reason had so much to do with our stay at this awesome home in Capitol Hill! My two college-age daughters each enjoyed having their own space and said both the Murphy bed and the sofa bed were very comfortable. The queen bed was also comfortable and the room was pretty quiet given that we were so close to everything. We loved the patio and spent mornings drinking coffee and evenings with cocktails on the glider love seat. The kitchen was well stocked but we didn't even bother cooking because there were so many great restaurants within several blocks. We loved Ted's Bulletin, Ambar, Banana Cafe, & pizza, Nooshi and Medium Rare (wow, sounds like all we did was eat!). We also loved how close and convenient the house is to Capitol Hill (< a mile and a pretty, easy walk). The eastern market metro stop was also only several blocks away making travel around town a breeze. We totally loved this house - it's character, charm and comfort were outstanding. The neighborhood was wonderful too - safe, quiet and friendly. We would absolutely stay at this home again if we ever have the opportunity and would recommend it to anyone planning a visit to the DC area. Stay here and you will enjoy our nation's capital as a Washingtonian - not just a tourist!

Excellent for Seeing the Sites of D.C.

  • 5 of 5

We three ladies, ages 58-66, chose this property for our stay in D.C. to see Pope Francis and visit all of the sites of the city. Our priorities were safety, easy walking distance to the capitol where we would see the Pope, near the Metro (we did not have a car) and other amenities (groceries, restaurants, market). We couldn't have been happier with our choice. Booking with the management company was easy and the prices reasonable, the home had everything we needed for our stay. The brownstone was in a safe and friendly (quiet) neighborhood, a couple of blocks to the Metro, CVS, Eastern Market (GREAT pancakes at a restaurant inside the Market building), a number of parks and churches close by, as were restaurants and liquor stores. It was very nice to enjoy the hub of all Washington offers during the day and be in a neighborhood setting at night. Pluses were each of us having our own bedroom, nice hot showers, fixing breakfast and dinners if we wanted, the back patio for relaxing in the evening. Advice for other visitors: be sure to visit the Eastern Market on the weekends; buy a Metro card when you first get in to the city which you can add $$ to during your stay. We paid for the Hop On, Hop Off bus to see the sites, but found we really didn't use it that much because of the wait times between buses and also the time you had to spend on the bus to get to your preferred stop (could be up to an hour). So, wouldn't do that again, instead would use the Metro and our feet to get around. Would highly recommend seeing Shear Madness at the Kennedy Center, Capitol tour, the Moonlight bus tours of the monuments, and eating at least one time in the Native American Smithsonian which offers food native to those they honor within the museum. And, if you go to Mt. Vernon be sure to eat at the restaurant there...their food is delicious, especially the corn bread served in an individual skillet and bread pudding!
