About Arthur and Donna Fausel

We have a long history in the Finger Lakes, growing up in the area and spending summers on Canandaigua Lake as children. When we started our family, we decided that we wanted a summer cottage so that our children could have the wonderful experience of summer lake life, just like we did! So we bought a home on Seneca Lake in the mid-1990s. Over the years we've lived in many places -- Europe, Florida, Seattle -- and we currently have our primary residence in Seattle. But we always come home to Seneca Lake for the summer.

Arthur and Donna Fausel purchased this cottage in 2006

Why Arthur and Donna Fausel chose Seneca Lake

We discovered Seneca Lake in 1996 and have owned our home on the lake ever since. Our children grew up spending summers on the lake, it's our home base. In 2006, we had the chance to buy the cottage (which is located very close to our home) from friends who had owned it for many years but were retiring and leaving the area. We jumped at the opportunity, we'd always loved the cottage. We completely updated/renovated it with summer and vacation in mind, it's such a happy place filled with light and color. While we offer the cottage for rental to guests, we also use it for our own family and friends when they come to visit, thus we treat and care for it as we do our own home. We still spend our summers on the lake and although our kids are mostly grown and have busy lives of their own, they still return to the lake each summer for a brotherly bonding and fun.

What makes this cottage unique

The cottage is very special. It's sunny and filled with light, and the many windows look out on the amazing Seneca Lake. The front porch is magical, it's covered (offering a break from the sun) and built over the water, so you feel like you're on top of the lake! So quiet and peaceful and restful, you feel like you are miles and miles away from civilization, yet there are fabulous wineries and local restaurants just up the road!

Wonderful getaway

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was adorable, cozy and clean. We loved that there were boats available for use and that beach towels are provided. We would definitely stay there again and try to go for longer so that we could enjoy it even more. The gift of wine was a pleasant and greatly appreciated surprise.

Thank you Donna!

Charming Cottage Inside and Out!

  • 5 of 5

The overall experience was excellent. The cottage is beautiful inside and out. We were warmly welcomed upon arriving with a gift basket and beautiful flowers. Having the lake within just a few feet of the cottage door is just one of this vacation spot's many perks. Free wifi was super convenient and allowed my husband and I to take care of a few necessary work-related items as well as share pictures of our fun and relaxation with family and friends on social media. Although we didn't watch TV much, it was nice to have digital cable available to catch up on news every couple of days. The cottage had EVERYTHING we needed. We only needed to bring personal items and groceries. Wineries, restaurants and various other food stores are all within a short distance. Being allowed to bring our dogs is the icing on the cake for us. They love vacationing and relaxing at Smooth Sailing (after all day swimming) as much as we do.

It was just about perfect.

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time and loved being on the beach. The only problem for us being over 60 were the stairs. They were a bit tiring. Other than that, it was ideal for views and wildlife and it was quiet and peaceful. The cottage itself was immaculate and fully equipped with everything we needed. The was a nice welcome for us and our dogs.

Fantastic property, beautifully maintained, everything you could want

  • 5 of 5

This is one of the best places I've ever stayed in the Finger Lakes. The cottage is impeccable, with everything you could possibly want- high quality sheets, propane and charcoal fire pits, kayak, paddleboard, rowboat and paddleboat, life jackets, lots of floats, amazing dock area, responsive managers, and most of all...amazing location. It's got an incredible amount of lake footage, and is in an absolutely gorgeous area of Seneca Lake. Within 5 minutes you can get to ~10 wineries, breweries, and a distillery. 15 minutes to Watkins Glen. It is quiet, peaceful, and relaxing- the properties on this side of the lake are spaced far enough apart for solitude, and the lake itself is amazingly quiet. Sunsets are spectacular. We had planned to do a lot in the area but were so enamored with the cottage and lake front that we spent many hours relaxing on the dock.

This special cottage is located on the eastern shore of Seneca Lake, in the heart of the Finger Lakes region of New York State, one of the most beautiful places in America. Located about 5 miles north of Watkins Glen (Nascar track), the cottage is on a private lake road, surrounded by forest and vineyards, in the heart of the Finger Lakes wine country. All along the east side of the lake -- and just minutes from the cottage -- are numerous wineries, micro-breweries, artisan craft shops, farm stands featuring local produce and cheese, and amazing restaurants. Added charm comes from the Amish buggies and farms that are throughout the area. And just a 1/2 hour drive to Ithaca (Cornell University, Ithaca College) to the east, Corning (Corning Inc., Corning Glass Museum) to the south, and Geneva to the north, all amazing towns offering many attractions. The cottage sits on Seneca Lake, the deepest and largest of the Finger Lakes, an amazingly clean and beautiful lake.
