Graduation Weekend

  • 4 of 5

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The house was very roomy and spacious. The windows let in plenty of sunshine however there were no curtains on most of the windows including 2 of the bedrooms or one of the bathrooms.

Would definitely book this place if I am in the area again

See below. Terrible first impression.

  • 2 of 5

The photos promise far more than the reality. The photo of the front of the house , for example, has been taken from a view that seems impossible once you are there. It suggests a long beautiful piece of land rolling down a slope with the house at the crest. In fact that is the back side of the house which you never see and the "lawn" is quite small and choked with shrubbery. You enter the house from the "back" side in the driveway and up 3 steps to a deck not at all in keeping with the house. The "fishing pond" which the grandchildren had looked forward to, turns out to not have water and even if it did, as the caretaker said, it would be in a gully which would be far too dangerous for children to use. There is on fact no land which could be said to be nice for children to play. My confusion grew when we entered the house and walked straight into an open plan TV room kitchen which looked nothing like the photos to the point that I actually said to the caretaker, I think we might be in the wrong house. It seems that the owners might be doing up the house in stages and when we finally got to the living and dining rooms they were as they looked in the photos on line with interesting colors, nice rugs and throws, etc. But it makes a terrible first impression which is very depressing when you have flown all the way from France to be with your children and grandchildren for Thanksgiving and have wanted to rent something that everyone would enjoy. The new twin pull out couches in the TV room, which has no door, is simply not usable as a place for extra bed space as it is virtually part of the kitchen. My suggestion would be to whoever is taking the photos, be more honest because people are bound to get very angry and feel that they've been bamboozled and sadly that feeling never quite dissipates, even when you finally discover the "good bits". On the plus side, the caretaker, Cathy Minn was very accommodating, even going to the store for us when we discovered that we probably were not going to be able to get out of or back into the house without assistance due to the steep stairs up to the deck. The upstairs bedrooms are very nice as are the bathrooms. The bathroom downstairs although noted on the photo as the "downstairs bathroom", is a half bath and should be noted as such because we were told that the TV room could be used as a bedroom but really can't be. There were a lot of toys which was really nice for the children.

Owner's Response: Dear Guests- My sincerest apologies that you felt the photos were not accurate. We did recently buy new furniture for the den to make it more comfortable for guests. The home is situated in such a manner that we do end up entering the home via the deck and back entrance instead of the front porch. As parents of two young kids that love running around and playing in the yard, I'm sorry that your children didn't find the yard as usable place space. There is 1 acre of land that is mowed and the additional 2 acres we leave as wild fields keeping with the country feel. We will definitely look to update some photos and make a note of the downstairs bath as a half bathroom.
