Looking for a Fall Portland Getaway? We are located in Reedwood, the unique mid century modern neighborhood in the heart of Southeast Portland. Reedwood is a quiet neighborhood with wide streets, over sized lots, and some great architect-built mid century homes. Our home is a 1969 split level mid century modern with the downstairs being a spacious, separate apartment with your own private entrance. It features off street parking, a patio with your own electric BBQ grill, use of back yard, central air and heat & a vintage PINBALL machine! It is a one bedroom, one bath with full kitchen and large living room. The bedroom has a queen bed, an electric fireplace for ambiance and/or extra heat, dresser, ceiling fan, full closet & luggage stands. The bathroom has a tiled shower with rain shower head and separate pull-down shower sprayer. The kitchen has granite counter tops, stainless steel appliances including a full size range, full size refrigerator/freezer, dishwasher, sink, microwave, toaster & coffee maker. The kitchen is fully stocked with cookware, dishes, kitchen gadgets, utensils etc. We also provide complimentary coffee, tea & sweeteners. The living room features a ton of space with a gas-burning fireplace, flat screen TV and DirecTv with over 250 channels, free WiFi, board games, and magazines for relaxing. There's also a daybed that folds down and sleeps one and a queen- size futon style couch/bed that sleeps 2 . Additionally, we have a comfy couch for plenty of lounging and seating. The dining area features a modern dining table that seats 6. We are just a 3 block walk to beautiful Reed college, 5 blocks to the Rhododendron Garden, 6 blocks to Trader Joe's, walking distance to C-Bar, Yoko's Sushi, Rocio's Mexican Restaurant, Ship Ahoy tavern, Bird & Bear Rest. & Shut up & Eat Sandwich shop. We are 1 block from Bus line 17 Holgate/Broadway which takes you directly downtown. Kenilworth Park which has walking paths, playground and free tennis courts is just a block and half away. We are 3.5 miles from downtown Portland, 50 miles to Mt. Hood and 82 miles to the Oregon coast.

We are from Louisiana and landed in Portland about 5 years ago. I am a voice over artist, actor & real estate investor. John is a former Naval Special Warfare Boat Team operator and is a real estate investor. We love finding diamonds in the rough and restoring them together. We also have a little 4 pound Yorkie named Emma whose nickname is "Nimmers" hence the name Nimmer Nest! She can often be seen sitting in the living room window watching squirrels and birds!

This area of Portland is nice and quiet but still close to everything. We love the Reedwood neighborhood because of the cool Mid century architecture, wide streets & relative lack of power lines that contribute to the "country living in the city" feel as this area was described when being built in the 1950's. We moved from an 1895 home in a busier, noisier Southeast neighborhood to quiet Reedwood but is still in the heart of Southeast Portland. Our home already had a complete separate apartment that is perfect for visitors wanting to stay in Portland but desire more space and amenities than a typical hotel room such as a full kitchen, patio, yard, and of course, a pinball machine.
Your own private separate entrance, full kitchen, covered patio with grill and use of backyard. Gas fireplace in living room and electric fireplace in bedroom. DirecTV with over 250 channels with on-demand so you don't miss any of your shows while traveling. DVD player and TV in both the bedroom and living room with DVD Library. The house features Central Heat and Air Conditioning!! Rare for Portland :)
This spacious apartment was well appointed & met our needs exceedingly well! It was the closest place to stay while visiting our daughter at Reed College.
Accommodations were just right for me, my wife and our young adult daughter. What a pleasant surprise to have a complementary bottle of wine and local coffee waiting for us. The apartment has a fireplace insert that adds warm cozy heat for a homey feel. John and Sandra are excellent hosts, very helpful, friendly and unobtrusive. The location was only two blocks from our sons house and easy walking distance to local restaurants and Trader Joe's. Would definitely plan on staying at Nimmer's Nest on our next visit to Portland (if only to work on my pinball game)
Enjoyed our stay. Sandi and John were easy to work with. My husband and I liked the location. The apt was private and clean. Cleanliness and mattress comfort are my pet peeves. The mattress was fine. Nothing to write home about but definitely better than a lot of hotel mattresses I have experienced. The issue my husband and I had was with the cramped space of the bedroom and bathroom. I had to walk sideways to get into bed, between the wall and bed. I am an average size person. The other issue was lack of space to set things down in the bathroom or bedroom. I kept my toiletries on the island in the kitchen. These issues are why I give our stay 4 stars and not 5.
The location is quiet but near Holgate, which takes you into downtown or public transit, including MAX. John and Sharon kindly let me bring my dog and were very welcoming when I arrived, even helping me bring in my things. They responded very promptly to any questions. The daylight basement is very comfortable, with everything you need for a pleasant visit.
Perfect cozy getaway !! Super clean and comfortable. Feels like a home away from home ! John the homeowner was most gracious and helpful.Lots of attention to detail like coffee,linens,towels,menus etc...Nice quiet residential location in the Se near Reed college.
We loved it and would stay again next time we are in Portland !

From the get go John and Sandra were answering all my questions within 10 - 30 minutes. They were able to accommodate me on all my requests, they even offered us to stay late because there was no one renting later that day. The unit has a great floor plan and great flow, with a fireplace in the main room and bedroom. The location is close to downtown Portland and easy to get to. I would recommend this unit to anyone with pets and family.
Kenilworth Park is 2 blocks away with nice public tennis courts and playground.
Eastmoreland Public Golf Course is an 18 hole championship course opened in 1917 with a covered and lighted driving range. It is only 1.7 miles away and has a pro shop and bar and grill that is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
