Why Dr. Brandon Kirsch chose Indian River Shores
The Beachcomber is vacationing at its best! This casual, understated beach cottage has all the charm of an old-style Florida retreat with the comfortable appointments of an up-scale, private resort. We welcome our guests with all the amenities needed to make this your own little slice of Paradise... beach and swim toys, an outdoor gas grill, beach and patio furniture, even the sunscreen! We invite you to make our home your home... stay for a weekend, stay for a month. Your memories of The Beachcomber will be sweetly savored. Nuestra casa es su casa.
What makes this Cottage unique
Picture yourself driving south on famed A1A into the village of Indian River Shores. You turn left onto Beachcomber Lane, just past the charming Village Shoppes, and in one-quarter of a mile you dead end at the Atlantic Ocean and The Beachcomber, your own private oceanfront retreat. The stress of the world is a thing of the past as your step from your car, breath in the fresh sea air, and gaze at the azure blue of the ocean. From March to October you may spot a variety of sea turtles nesting at night on our beautiful shores. This is indeed the largest nesting grounds in the world for the Green Turtle. Loggerheads and several other species also choose the tranquil beaches of Indian River County to lay their eggs. The hatchlings, once fully grown, traverse the oceans of the world only to return to these same beaches to dig their nests.

Location / view is the bomb
It’s like having your own private beach on the Atlantic
We just returned from a 3 night stay at the Beachcomber, and what an awesome time we had! My husband and my parents stayed, along with a friend of ours. The layout of the home was ideal. The extra "den" (with pull out sofa bed) is over on one end of the house and is large and also has a small table and chairs. There is a sliding pocket door which enables the area to be closed off from the rest of the house for privacy if desired. He used the downstairs bathroom, but it was convenient in that it was just right outside the den. The 3 bedrooms upstairs are all nice size. We really loved the walk around porch on the 2 sides of the home. The covered porch in the back was wonderful and very large. We enjoyed the double carport, as well as the outside shower, all of the beach chairs/umbrellas, etc. It was a very quiet and private location, and the lush landscaping added to the peaceful serenity! We highly recommend this property!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the beachcomber! We had 7 people in the house, and there was plenty of room. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook meals for our group and the view was spectacular from almost every room.
Charming property with a remote feel. We felt like we had the beach all to ourselves!
This property has the best of both worlds. Ocean front and privacy plus restaurants and shops nearby- some just a short walk away! The house is also big enough so that every guest can have their own space if needed!
Perfect beach view
We flew into Orlando and drove 2 hours down to Vero Beach. It was hot during the ride, and my family was tired of traveling and questioning why I rented a house so far from the airport. However, when we arrived at the house they were elated. It's right on the coast; it's the first time we've rented a place right on the water. In addition, Vero Beach is a great town.
The negatives of the location are worth noting. The house is right next to a public access to the beach. One morning some unsavory characters were parked outside. Also, even though the exterminator came to the house early in the week, there were some large roaches inside by the end of our stay (it must be impossible to keep them out of a house - we also had some in our Disney hotel at the end of our trip).
Thank you for staying with us and providing your thoughtful comments. Foremost, I sincerely apologize that you did not have a 5-star worthy stay at the Beachcomber. The satisfaction and enjoyment of guests is my primary objective. I am always available to discuss ways to improve the experience of visitors. When things unexpectedly do not go as planned, I do my best to ensure they are addressed in such a manner that the overall experience remains 5-stars.
As you are aware, the house is located on a quiet, private residential street. There are high end retailers (Tommy Bahama), restaurants (Citron Grill) and a gourmet grocery store (Alimentari) within a 5-7 minute walk. Most guests comment very favorably about the degree of privacy on our street. Often visitors write in their reviews and private comments how few people they see over the course of weeks or months. We have never had any criminal incident or concern expressed about suspicious individuals. Of note, virtually all beaches in Florida are public and there is generally open beach access at the end of each street.
With respect to the bugs, I believe you are referring to palmettos. These are very common in Florida. We have lush, private grounds at the Beachcomber and this provides guests a beautiful and peaceful respite, as well as a habitat for natural wildlife. Generally, palmetto bugs only come inside when doors without screens are left open for prolonged periods of time. If you left your patio door open at Disney, this likely explains why you had a similar issue there as well. We have routine pest control maintenance at the house to protect from wildlife intrusion and maintain our grounds.
Finally, Melbourne Airport is approximately 45 minutes away from the house and provides a convenient option for individuals who would prefer to avoid the traffic around Orlando (which can elongate travel time).
Thank you again for your comments. We hope you otherwise enjoyed your stay and will consider visiting again.
Vacations in Paradise
Beautiful nice decorated cottage, breathtaking views, amazing nature experience, outstanding Landlord!!!
Would definitely come back. We had the most peaceful family vacations here. A heavenly experience.
Vero Beach's charming oceanfront downtown is within one mile of the house. Browse local shops, enjoy an ice cream or delicious glass of fresh Indian River County orange juice, arguably the best in the world! On Saturday morning visit the local farmers market for fresh veggies or seafood to cook up later on the "barbie."
Chill out with a coffee or wine at one of the many bistros or wine bars. Hungry? Dining options range from beach fare to exquisite fine dining. Music? Venues offer something for everyone... from sublime piano bars, to Jimmy Buffet wannabes performing at beachfront casual bars. Want something a bit more cultural and refined?
The Vero Beach Museum of Art has an impressive permanent collection of art, in addition to lectures, concerts, a tasty cafe, and a lovely sculpture garden. Live concerts, plays, and stand-up comedy by outstanding equity performers are offered at Riverside Theatre. And check out Vero Beach Theatre Guild for impressive productions by local thespians.
Feeling adventurous.....Forty miles to the north, at Melbourne Zoo, there is a zipline and agility course to test your endurance and fitness level. Skill levels range from beginners to Black Diamond.
If you need a change of pace from boating, snorkeling, diving, fishing, kayaking, swimming, and surfing, check out our local micro brewery, winery, movie theatres, bowling lanes, or miniature golf. Or maybe expand your mind with some of the amazing educational experiences available locally.
The McCarty and Mel Fisher Treasure Museums offer outstanding exhibits and artifacts recovered from ship wrecks that sank just off our shore in 1715 and giving our area recognition as "Florida's Treasure Coast." The UDT Navy Seals Museum will inspire and stir your patriotic juices. Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute, the Environmental Learning Center, and the Smithsonian Ecosystem Marine Center each offer an amazing opportunity to explore more about the delicate balance of our local environment.
The McKee Botanical Garden is a not-to-be-missed site for any plant or flower lover, offering a spectacle of nature any season of the year. Orchids, bromeliads, water lilies, exotic blooming plants and palms from every corner of the world made this a tourist attraction long before Walt Disney's vision forever changed Florida.
