About Tammy and Sam

Please allow us to introduce ourselves. We are Sam and Tammy ; We ourselves were once visitors to The Great Smoky Mountains. Sam is a native Swiss/German and had always the idea to offer and operate a “back to the basics” or Vacation retreat “holiday on a family owned and operated Farm”. We traveled all over the US to see where we want to settle. It took only one visit to realize that this is where we wanted to live, work and raise our children. We went back and forward , sold our home/company and moved to what we think is a most extraordinary place.

We are extremely proud to own and operate Stuetz Mountain Retreat, where you will receive top notch personal attention to make your stay a memorable one.

Each of the cabins we build from a kit or from scratch. All measures have been taken to provide all the comforts of home to make your stay as comfortable and authentic as possible. Click on the Cabins tab and take a tour of the available cabins. Each cabin has a list of amenities sure to please any vacationer and adventure seeker. We hope you enjoy The Great Smoky Mountains and this peace of paradise alone or with your family as much as we have.

In our life, it has been clear that nothing comes easily. We are happy that we took the hard road in many areas to develop and maintain our land, knowing that this efforts will eventually produce better results. Since we are family owned and operated we also maintain a self-sustainable lifestyle. Instead of using disposable products constantly, Sam and Tammy aims to use recyclable and reusable alternatives, even though they often require more effort.

Enjoy your stay with us!

Adorable cabin with stunning mountain views!

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved the Raven's Nest cabin and had a wonderful stay in Tennessee. The cabin itself is so charming and well kept. It's immaculate inside and well stocked with anything you could need during your stay in the mountains. The view was incredible and the hot tub was a huge selling point! It worked perfectly and was lovely at night under the stars. The owners were also extremely friendly and helpful, but also respectful of privacy. We felt like we had the whole area to ourselves :) five stars all around and highly recommended! We'll be back!

Disconnect

  • 5 of 5

We disconnected with the world for a couple days at the cabin called Raven's Nest high up on a mountainside in TN, overlooking the Smokey Mountains. No TV signal, but plenty of DVD movies. A couple decks of cards. A fantastic view of the Smokeys, looking down into to the valley, across and then miles into the distance. Porch with rockers. Hiking trails. Bunnies and goats just down the road. A mountain stream to follow uphill. And, for a longer hike, we went up the mountain to the summit, where there is a very interesting and beautiful place called the Peace Pagoda. A lovely, relaxing time for all of us. We hope to go back.

Beautiful..

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I only stayed one night, but we are already looking forward to our next stay. The cabin is more beautiful than the pictures show with an amazing view of the mountains from the bedroom window, kitchen, front porch, and the picnic table and fire pit. The hot tub was great, the cabin and property were absolutely spotless. This is a very well taken care of property, and I would expect their other places to be as well. From the cabin it was about 35-40 minutes to Gatlinburg, maybe about 45 from Maggie valley, and about an hour from Asheville. There is the town of Newport just at the bottom of the mountain, but it wasn't terribly nice but it's there if you need anything and it's close to the interstate but even late at night there is no sounds of civilization. Before we left, we had the pleasure of meeting Tammy and Sam who were the nicest people in person as well as over the phone throughout the booking process. Just as a side note the ladder to the bedroom is steep.. It is a ladder so maybe not recommended for people with disabilities but is side and easily climbed. Also the last half mile or so is a gravel road and gravel driveway which is on the steep side. The driveway is smooth and nice but the road was a little rough. We had no issues but if you're in a low sports car it maybe difficult.

Overall, our stay was amazing at a beautiful cabin, rented by amazing people for a great price. I look forward to returning soon. Thanks Tammy and Sam!

Beautiful secluded cabin with an amazing view

  • 5 of 5

My friend and I stayed in the Raven's Nest for 2 nights and we absolutely did not want to leave. The cabin is extremely clean, cozy, and a great place to getaway. It would be perfect for a small family, a couple of friends, or even just 1 person. The bed in the loft could comfortably fit 2 people, as well as the futon in the living area (which was just as, if not more comfortable, than the bed). The kitchen is fully functioning, so there would be no need to go to a restaurant every night, although there are plenty of restaurants close by if that's what would be preferred. The hot tub is also a huge plus! The area is very quiet and peaceful and the views can not be beat. The owners, Tammy and Sam, are very kind and hospitable and go out of their way to make sure their guests are well-taken care of. This place is one-of-a-kind and I highly recommend it. Just be aware, you will not want to leave once you're there.

Had a wonderful time!

  • 5 of 5

First I'd like to say this cabin exceeded my and my familys expectations! As soon as we arrived we were blown away. The cabin was very clean and cozy. We very much appreciated the fact that when we arrived the owners came and introduce themselves and told us that if we needed anything to just give them a call. And we did just that! The hot tub worked fine when we first used it but then it wouldn't heat up anymore, we called the owners and they fixed it with no hesitation and very quickly. I would definitely recommend staying here and we will be back!

Perfect cabin with a gorgeous view

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I had a wonderful time staying in this cabin! It was clean and comfortable and had all the right amenities. Tammy and her husband were very nice and accommodating. We were very surprised and thrilled about the amount of privacy the cabin offered. One of my favorite things was the hot tub; one evening I saw 4 shooting stars! Newport is a very short drive away and offers chain and local restaurants and a Wal-Mart for supplies. Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg were accessible and we even made a trip to Chimney Rock in North Carolina. My husband and I recommend this cabin to any couple or small family and plan to return for another adventure and comfortable stay.
