About Tammy and Sam

Please allow us to introduce ourselves. We are Sam and Tammy ; We ourselves were once visitors to The Great Smoky Mountains. Sam is a native Swiss/German and had always the idea to offer and operate a “back to the basics” or Vacation retreat “holiday on a family owned and operated Farm”. We traveled all over the US to see where we want to settle. It took only one visit to realize that this is where we wanted to live, work and raise our children. We went back and forward , sold our home/company and moved to what we think is a most extraordinary place.

We are extremely proud to own and operate Stuetz Mountain Retreat, where you will receive top notch personal attention to make your stay a memorable one.

Each of the cabins we build from a kit or from scratch. All measures have been taken to provide all the comforts of home to make your stay as comfortable and authentic as possible. Click on the Cabins tab and take a tour of the available cabins. Each cabin has a list of amenities sure to please any vacationer and adventure seeker. We hope you enjoy The Great Smoky Mountains and this peace of paradise alone or with your family as much as we have.

In our life, it has been clear that nothing comes easily. We are happy that we took the hard road in many areas to develop and maintain our land, knowing that this efforts will eventually produce better results. Since we are family owned and operated we also maintain a self-sustainable lifestyle. Instead of using disposable products constantly, Sam and Tammy aims to use recyclable and reusable alternatives, even though they often require more effort.

Enjoy your stay with us!

Drop-dead gorgeous, clean, and peaceful

  • 5 of 5

Our 6-night stay was fantastic. We relaxed our minds and bodies by the fire, in the soaking tub, and with a short walk to the Peace Pagoda atop the mountain. Our experience was everything we desired and more. We loved the landscape and tiny decorative details visible throughout the property as we felt at home. We will absolutely return! Highly recommended.

A Unique Experience

  • 5 of 5

My girlfriend and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Tiny Owl. Tammy and Sam are wonderful hosts. All the amenities one could ask for are provided upon request (eg. hot tub, sauna, atv, food, firewood, etc.) The cabin is located next to an audible stream, adding to the already-restful ambiance. The fire pit is equipped with a tripod for cooking. Additionally, there are friendly animals that roam the property -- dogs and deer. Perhaps my favorite aspect of this trip was hanging out with a young, male deer named "John." This little guy was very well-behaved, and he stayed by our side for over an hour before he got bored and wandered off. I would recommend Tiny Owl to anyone willing to to stay outside of a traditional-sized cabin.

A nice little gem.

  • 5 of 5

The Tiny Owl was an amazing getaway. We were able to comfortably relax and during our three day stay we were able to visit Gatlinburg the one day and Asheville the next. The location is very quiet and peaceful yet not too far if you want to indulge in tourist activities. My wife and I really enjoyed our time there and look forward to going back in the near future.

Loved every second!!

  • 5 of 5

My boyfriend and I stayed in the tiny cabin for our fall break and absolutely loved it! We reserved one night and then ended up being able to stay a second night:) The hosts were great, thank you for setting up the hot tub! We would recommend the orchard restaurant nearby -- the best apple cider and apple butter I've ever had! The hike up to the peace pagoda from the cabin was our favorite part. It such a unique surprise and a beautiful sunset! Location is great for a trip into the national park or to the town of Hot Springs. The tiny cabin was the perfect amount of space for a romantic weekend for two!! We can't wait to be back
