About Tammy and Sam

Please allow us to introduce ourselves. We are Sam and Tammy ; We ourselves were once visitors to The Great Smoky Mountains. Sam is a native Swiss/German and had always the idea to offer and operate a “back to the basics” or Vacation retreat “holiday on a family owned and operated Farm”. We traveled all over the US to see where we want to settle. It took only one visit to realize that this is where we wanted to live, work and raise our children. We went back and forward , sold our home/company and moved to what we think is a most extraordinary place.

We are extremely proud to own and operate Stuetz Mountain Retreat, where you will receive top notch personal attention to make your stay a memorable one.

Each of the cabins we build from a kit or from scratch. All measures have been taken to provide all the comforts of home to make your stay as comfortable and authentic as possible. Click on the Cabins tab and take a tour of the available cabins. Each cabin has a list of amenities sure to please any vacationer and adventure seeker. We hope you enjoy The Great Smoky Mountains and this peace of paradise alone or with your family as much as we have.

In our life, it has been clear that nothing comes easily. We are happy that we took the hard road in many areas to develop and maintain our land, knowing that this efforts will eventually produce better results. Since we are family owned and operated we also maintain a self-sustainable lifestyle. Instead of using disposable products constantly, Sam and Tammy aims to use recyclable and reusable alternatives, even though they often require more effort.

Enjoy your stay with us!

A nice little gem.

  • 5 of 5

The Tiny Owl was an amazing getaway. We were able to comfortably relax and during our three day stay we were able to visit Gatlinburg the one day and Asheville the next. The location is very quiet and peaceful yet not too far if you want to indulge in tourist activities. My wife and I really enjoyed our time there and look forward to going back in the near future.

Loved every second!!

  • 5 of 5

My boyfriend and I stayed in the tiny cabin for our fall break and absolutely loved it! We reserved one night and then ended up being able to stay a second night:) The hosts were great, thank you for setting up the hot tub! We would recommend the orchard restaurant nearby -- the best apple cider and apple butter I've ever had! The hike up to the peace pagoda from the cabin was our favorite part. It such a unique surprise and a beautiful sunset! Location is great for a trip into the national park or to the town of Hot Springs. The tiny cabin was the perfect amount of space for a romantic weekend for two!! We can't wait to be back

Charming Escape from the busy world...

  • 5 of 5

My boyfriend and I stayed a few nights with our small dog at Tiny Owl, and loved every second. The place was as described and actually seemed bigger than I had imagined it. Property was well maintained. The cabin was clean and had a lot of essentials provided, we actually packed too much and will travel much lighter when we come back. And we WILL come back!

We had a minor plumbing issue the first night, and Sam and Tammy were wonderful in dealing with it as quickly as possible. Very responsive and usually around the property should you need anything during your stay.

I've recommended this property to everyone. I so many memories of The Smoky Mountains as a kid on family vacations. Introducing the area to my boyfriend was made even sweeter with this adorable cabin stay.

The Cabin is near the family farm, but still offers plenty of privacy and seclusion. We enjoyed waking up every morning and sneeking a peek at the goats that grazed the nearby fenced land. There is also a nearby pond under construction and we look forward to seeing it when it's complete! The fresh farm eggs are delicious and they collect the best honey I've ever tasted, right on the farm. Be sure to buy some during your stay!

Things to see and do:

Hike to top of Max Patch and pick wild blackberries mid-summer

See the Peace Pagoda, Great Stargazing location at night

Make the drive to Great Smoky National Park of course!

Just what we wanted!

  • 5 of 5

We wanted a quiet, wooded area without sharing with a ton of campers, and we wanted to try a tiny house. We LOVE the Tiny Owl, which had more than we needed -- very well appointed / equipped, clean, comfie, and dog-friendly. It stays cool in the woods, so even the heat didn't interfere. Sam and Tami have created a simple Shangrila here, complete with optional hot tub, sauna, and outside shower, and they have cleared an area for sunning and stargazing, complete with a table and chairs. They were great hosts!

Since the Pigeon River is closed for recreation on Sunday-Monday, we drove about an hour to Marshall, TN and did the French Broad River with Blue Heron. It was a blast in their inflatable kayaks.

And believe it or not, we found an outstanding Japanese restaurant called Do Jo, in Newport, which serves very generously and tastily. We carried food to our cabin and had leftovers for days.

We love this area and plan to return every season. Cheers to Sam and Tami!

Perfection

  • 5 of 5

We loved our first Tiny House experience at the Tiny Owl on Sam & Tami's Shangrila. We had everything we needed for a laid-back, easy getaway, and we didn't want to leave. The cabin was extremely clean, well appointed, and we had great service and suggestions from Sam and Tami. Loved the goats, chickens, turkey, doggies, and rooster -- the babbling brook in front of our cabin, and the cleared, pond-side view of the stars. We drove an hour to Blue Heron rafting in Marshall, NC -- lovely drive -- and we took blow-up kayaks down the French Broad River on Sunday (since the Pigeon River is closed to recreation on Sunday-Monday). We had a great
