NOTE ON THE PROPERTY: This 3BR/2BA apartment is the upstairs unit of our duplex and is our primary residence, but is also offered as a vacation rental when we are on the road. We prefer this apartment (and you may, as well) because it has a larger and more comfortable living room, an enhanced set of amenities, and the wonderful balcony overlooking Cordova Street. The downstairs apartment has the same basic layout and is used primarily as a vacation rental (Property # 738597) -- so please check that listing if this upstairs unit is not available. Both units can also be rented together, so if you have a large group of up to 12 persons, please see Property # 747637 for details.

YOUR HOME-AWAY-FROM-HOME – Unit 2 (Upstairs Apartment):

THE AREA: Located in a quiet residential area, the property is an easy 5-minute walk from the town square (Plaza de la Constitution) and the architecturally impressive Flagler College (formerly the posh Hotel Ponce de Leon built by Henry Flagler in the late-19th Century), just 3 minutes from the beautiful new sea wall along the Intracoastal Waterway near the city marina, only a minute from the serene setting of Lake Maria Sanchez (originally a creek that was dredged in order to fill in the wetlands on which Flagler's hotel would be constructed) and the historically significant Lincolnville neighborhood, and directly between the First Congregation Sons of Israel Jewish Synagogue (across the street to the east) and the Greater St Mary’s Missionary Baptist Church (on Washington Street, with their parking area bordering our property to the west).

THE HOUSE: The duplex was built in 2006, purchased by us in March, 2015, and both of the 3BR/2BA approximately 1500 sq ft apartments were renovated with the comfort and enjoyment of our vacation rental Guests in mind. For many of our Guests, a main drawing point will be that you can just park your car and walk to most of the popular tourist attractions, bars and restaurants – or just take a casual stroll, jog or bike ride through some of the most peaceful and beautiful residential areas of our wonderful city.

THE OUTSIDE: The first things you will likely notice about the property are the well-kept garden on the east and south sides of the property covered with Florida-native plants, palms and live-oak trees, and the red paver driveways on either side of the building. The driveways lead around the building to a large uncovered gravel parking area in the rear where each unit has dedicated space for up to 3 standard-size vehicles (18 ft max). The outside sitting area for this unit is on the balcony above the front porch (where the entrances to both units are located) and has seating for six along with a small table. The east-facing balcony is perfectly suited for enjoying your coffee in the morning sun or evening beverage in the shade, and generally watching the world and the occasional horse-drawn carriage go by on Cordova Street.

THE LIVING ROOM: The stairway up to the second-floor unit opens to a hallway leading to the dining area and kitchen, as well as to the bedrooms and living room. The spacious living room looks out onto the quiet residential street through two large east- and north-facing windows and provides access to the balcony. This room offers two comfortable sofas, an over-stuffed chair and another chair with total seating for 8 persons, and is a perfect space for planning the day's activities, watching a movie, or relaxing with a book.

THE KITCHEN & DINING AREA: We are confident that our Guests (especially those who love to cook and eat) will enjoy the brand new kitchen where two can easily work side-by-side. The new cabinets and granite counter-top, the new French-door cabinet-depth frig and new (and very quiet) Bosch dishwasher, and the new stainless-steel stove and microwave, as well as other counter-top appliances and all the necessary pots and pans are sure to please the most demanding cooks. The adjacent dining area with seating for 6 is the best place to enjoy your breakfast as you and the members of your group bask in the morning Florida sunshine flowing through the large east- and south-facing windows. And although there are many fun, tasty, and romantic places to eat in St Augustine, we are sure that most of our Guests will appreciate the flexibility of enjoying a fine or family-style meal in your home-away-from-home. We even provide a great assortment of herbs, spices and other goodies to get you started.

THE BEDROOMS, BATHROOMS & LAUNDRY: All three bedrooms are quite large and comfortable, from the Master (12+ft x 14+ft) with a King bed and en-suite bathroom, to the Guest Bedroom (with a Queen bed and direct access to the Guest Bathroom) and 3rd Bedroom (with a day bed that pulls out as two side-by-side Twins and access to the Guest Bathroom through the hallway) each at 12+ft x 13+ft. All bedrooms have new flooring and ample space for clothing and luggage, but perhaps the best part is that they overlook the parking area to the back of the building which is almost totally shielded from the neighboring property by a line of tall trees and other foliage, along with a 6 ft shadow-box wood fence with knee-wall. This makes for an excellent privacy barrier and gives the feeling of living in a downtown enclave. Both bathrooms include new vanities and toilets and large showers, and the laundry room is outfitted with a new high-capacity Kenmore washer and dryer.

ENTERTAINMENT AND CONNECTIVITY: The apartment is served by Comcast cable TV (with 140+ channels), high-speed Internet (up to 75 Mbps) with WiFi, and an Internet-based phone system. We've provided a 50+inch flat-screen Smart TV in the living room for cable and access to our Netflix, Amazon Prime Movies, Pandora, iHeart Radio apps/accounts. If your home TV service provider offers online programming for viewing on your laptop computer and/or mobile device, you may also be able to view that content on our living room TV using the 'Miracast' capability of our BluRay/DVD player -- depending on the capabilities of your laptop/device (currently Windows 8.1/10 and Android 4.2+ only) and your familiarity with your laptop/device, etc. The 3rd Bedroom also has Comcast cable connectivity with a 40+ inch Smart TV, and can be used as an office as we have provided a desk for your laptop or other devices. NOTE: Access to and proper functioning of our Smart TV apps (Netflix, etc.) and 'casting' of your home TV provider content to our TV is NOT GUARANTEED, as there are many factors which could make those services unavailable.

About Keith & Mary

Mary and I (Keith) are both retired and moved to St Augustine from northern Virginia in 2011 (Mary is originally from Trinidad & Tobago, and I was born and raised in Wisconsin). Together we have 4 kids, strewn from Dallas to DC to Deutschland (Germany). As retirees, we're so busy that we can't imagine how we had any time to live when we were working.

Why Keith & Mary chose St. Augustine

Although this is a new property for us, we managed our previous home as a vacation rental for over 4 years. We sold The Villa at Kirkside on Valencia Street here in St Augustine in November 2014, having finally realized that a 5BR/4.5BA 4300 sq ft home with a huge garden and pool was simply too big for the two of us (duh!).

That wonderful property is now in new hands and is no longer a vacation rental, but during those years at the Villa we were fortunate to have had over 70 groups of Guests enjoy our home. Most rented the entire property when we traveled (which was quite often), but many others stayed in the 2BR/1BA lower level while we were in the upper levels. We especially enjoyed having a chance to meet the Guests who stayed in our home when we were there. One couple actually decided to move to St Augustine, and they are now very dear friends of ours. We still keep in touch with other Guests, including a British couple with whom we hope to get together at some point at one of their vacation rentals in Portugal or the UK.

Each and every one of our Guests who was kind enough to write a review honored us with a 5-star rating, which we are sure contributed to our property being selected by HomeAway as one of their small number of "Luxury Vacation Rentals" two years in a row -- along with, at that time, only one other property in Northeast Florida and around 500 in the entire USA.

While 164 Cordova is a very different place in terms of size, layout and style, we were drawn to it especially because it allowed us to downsize (the upstairs unit is our primary residence). It also gave us a chance to improve a tired property in a beautiful neighborhood, and to get to know those Guests who stay with us when we are not on the road -- which is our favorite part.

Whether you are one of our old Villa Guests or new to the area, we invite you to join us and learn (or remember) why St Augustine is such a great place to stay -- for a short time or a lifetime.

Lovely comfortable home!

We were so pleased with Mary and Keith's home at 164 Cordova in St. Augustine. The home is very comfortable and well appointed.

We really felt like we were at home. The property is an easy walk to Casa Monica and the downtown area. We plan to return soon

and bring more of the family.

Perfect Place for Family Vacation!

Great location that is within walking distance to pretty much all of downtown St. Augustine. The house was very clean and comfortable. The owners were responsive and friendly in all communications, and they even included some starter food and drinks like coffee and pasta. Would absolutely recommend this place to any couples or families looking to stay in this area for a quick visit or longer stay. We can't wait to go back!

We've rented 4 VRBO homes this year and this is by far the nicest. Will definitely be coming back and would recommend to anyone looking for a nice place to stay in St. Augustine. Within walking distance of all major attractions.

Beautiful Home in an extraordinary location!

My Family and I stayed 2 nights at this beautiful home and were thoroughly impressed with EVERYTHING! The locations is in the heart of downtown St. Augustine and centrally located to anything you would want to do there. The owners are stand-up people who take great pride in their home and it shows in how well it is maintained and prepared for their guests. Down to every detail, it was perfect! Fresh soft white towels, beautiful bedding, comfy beds, coffee maker(with coffee), up to date EVERYTHING. I really could go on and on. I don't think there could've been a better experience. I would love to stay here again and I highly recommend to anyone! I wouldn't recommend to anyone looking for a "party house" this is not that kind of home. It's a beautifully decorated home and should be taken care of. The owners will not leave out any detail and are very receptive. I rate my experience 100% satisfactory.

Truly beautiful apartment so close to everything.

We were a party of 3 couples looking for a short getaway to St. Augustine. This rental was the perfect fit. It felt like home with everything you could want/need, with plenty of room for us all to stay under one roof. It was right in the middle of city and you can easily walk to all the main attractions of St. Augustine. The owner and the point of contact for the rental were very accommodating and quick to respond to all questions before and during the stay. I highly recommend this affordable rental!
