Overview

About the property

One Bedroom, One Bath With A Full Kitchen

This guest house is located at the back of the courtyard of www.vrbo.com/371457. It is a one bedroom, one bath house. The bedroom and bathroom are located upstairs. Downstairs is the living room and the kitchen. The futon couch has an 8" memory foam full-size mattress. It shares a gorgeous, classic New Orleans courtyard with the front house. There is gas grill and a fountain in the courtyard. There is a bistro set just out side the door, as well as four-seat outdoor table and chairs available for outdoor dining. And a balcony with seating to look out over the courtyard.

Please note: the walkway back to the house is narrow - room enough to roll luggage down it, but still narrow.

We provide linens, soaps, coffee, etc.

About Anne Hazeltine

I bought this property in order to spend more time in New Orleans. I love this town! My stress level immediately lowers as soon as I can pick up WWOZ on the radio on the drive down from Indiana.

I got super lucky when I found Ginger Miller, the property manager. Ginger has worked as front desk clerk in a boutique hotel in the Marigny, so she is a great resource about the neighborhood. She lived in this house for our first four years and she still handles all your needs for the houses.

Anne Hazeltine purchased this house in 2011

Why Anne Hazeltine chose Downtown

As soon as I walked in the house, I knew it would have to be mine! I loved the courtyard most!

What makes this house unique

When you are in the courtyard, it is easy to forget that you are so close to all of the hustle and bustle of New Orleans!

Guestbook comments from the manager

We have loved staying here! This place has a beautiful feeling. We like the homie [sic] and comfortable feel of Marigny Hideout. Will recommend and return to stay here. Beauty and location is unbeatable. Thanks!"

Quiet, cozy and convenient!

  • 5 of 5

Pleasant little cottage tucked away in a delightfully private courtyard. It had everything we could need or want, and it’s perfect for two people. So close to all the hot spot jazz clubs and restaurants on Frenchman, all very safe and walkable. We’ll be back!

Felt like home

  • 4 of 5

My children and I had a wonderful stay. Anne and Ginger have thought of everything. We were there for a week and was able to save so much money by cooking meals at home. Located one block from the bus station it was easy to get around town. It is also a quick walk to Frenchmen street. Walgreens was about a 10 minute walk. I would definately recommend this place.

Great getaway in New Orleans

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed this little get away in New Orleans. Close to many great places for food, drink, and entertainment and convenient to both public transportation or roads to drive oneself. We enjoyed the ability to relax close to everything...yet not feel like we were surrounded by too much.

Quaint, quiet and perfectly located

  • 5 of 5

My children and I loved the small homey feel of this cottage style home. Being able to unwind in your own quiet litle courtyard was fantastic. Perfectly located for walking to the French Market and more. Coming in at night down the narrow walkway in the dark is pretty rough. One light by the inside of the gate shining down that walkway for a few seconds would be great. This home would be great for a romantic getaway.

Owner's Response: I am so sorry - I had several motion-sensing lights that have disappeared. I plan to rectify that as soon as I can get down there (hopefully, next week!). --Anne

Quaint little house

  • 3 of 5

This is a quaint little old house. The owner was very nice and accommodating. The one thing that was not truly disclosed was the very narrow passage way to get to it. It's approximately 2 feet wide with no covering when it rains. At night there was no light to guide you. The claw foot tub was nice to look at but it was small and the the shower curtain kept sticking to you as you tried to shower. The courtyard and water feature were nice. I had to sweep up pet hair when we got there and we didn't come with a pet. Definitely close to Frenchman street which was a big positive.

Owner's Response: I am so sorry to hear that there was any pet hair in the house. That is unacceptable and the cleaning crew has been advised. Now on to the issue of the narrow alley. There were motion-scensor battery-powered lights along the alley - sounds like they have disappeared and will be replaced ASAP. A little back-story: New Orleans was experiencing the effects of a tropical storm when these guests arrived. We had moved the guests that had been scheduled to stay in this house to another house because I have been here once when it rained for three days and knew it would be inconvenient. Then these guests, who were booked for a month later, showed up 1 month early. And the only reason we were able to accommodate these guests was that we had moved the other guests. I only mention this because we do try to accommodate unfortunate circumstances whenever possible. The description of the tub on the listing has always been "small claw foot tub," so, yes, I had already done my best to let guests know what to expect.

Beyond charming and brimming with character!

  • 5 of 5

Where to start! This is by far my favorite VRBO to date! The home itself was as adorable as could be! It felt like we were taken back in time. It was quiet, peaceful and the bed was comfy. Adorable balcony to have coffee on each morning, or drinks each evening. Location, a few minutes walk from Frenchmen street was perfect. Our host Ginger was amazing. She went above and beyond to work with us; she even brought us an umbrella over when we were stranded inside due to the rain. PERFECT! Thank you so much.

The Marigny (mare-i-nee) neighborhood is adjacent to the French Quarter. It is an eclectic area filled with artists. I first fell in love with it in 2009 when we came for Jazz Fest. I travel with my dog and walked the neighborhood every day. I bought this property on my second visit to the city in 2011! There are coffee shops all over the Marigny and Frenchmen Street is packed with live music clubs and an art market in the evenings. What more could I ask for?
