The Vermilion river is navigable but not terribly deep. Smaller fishing boats and pontoons are most popular. There is boat ramp access about 10 minutes away. Please call for more information on boating and area eating, drinking and entertainment ideas.
Cute cottage on the lake. Everything we needed for the week end was there. A quite get away location, yet close to starving rock and other actives.
Tho we didn't use them, games were provided as well as DVD's.
My friend and I stayed at this wonderful riverside cabin in July. Great clean and peaceful space outdoors and in. It is out past many cornfields with just a small road with few other houses and not really access to explore the river. Good working kitchen essentials, extra bottles of water was nice (thank you!). Good gas grill. Comfortable pillows, beds and couches. Very nice deck overlooking the river where we read books and chatted for hours. Used the screened in porch with fire pit at night to stay away from mosquitos. We were there for hot July days but just used the ceiling fan and opened windows for nice breeze versus trying the AC. We did not use the basement area (with doors to outdoors) with TV, couches, pool table. Stocked up with family board games. Seems a little musty or damp there but dehumidifier running.
We drove to Starved Rock for hiking which was very cool although crowded in mid summer as expected. A little trouble with automatic map directions for one of us coming from the south bringing you to the west side of river with cabin on the east, but property owners directions were great. Recommend for getaway for family and/or friends. Hope to return with kids and other friends in future
Great spot to get away. Ryan, the owner, is a great guy to deal with. Answers questions in a fast timely manner, very open to making your trip great.
The cottage was awesome! We had a wonderful time staying there. Would love to come back in the future.
Myself and a couple of friends stayed for a long weekend at Ryan & Carrie's Cottage and a great time was had by all. The pictures on the posting are a bit deceiving and by that I mean their property is even better in person! It can be a bit tricky to find and Ryan's directions are spot on, but once you arrive the setting is awesome, the cottage was spotless, spacious & perfect for a quick getaway. It is not too far of a drive to Starved Rock and if you head out that way stop for lunch at the Lone Buffalo.
We would definitely come back.
My 2 friends and I are the typical over worked family men that needed a getaway from reality. We spent 4 nights at the house and it was wonderful, no kids, no dogs, no work, and no responsibility. The house was great. All we had to do was go shopping at the store for food. Everything else was provided including access to the propane grill. The beds were comfy, the heat and A/C worked great, the hot water was plentiful as well. We especially liked that the firewood was provided for us. We had a fire a few nights, sipped on some whiskey, and talked the night away. We ate like kings because no wives were there to tell us it was unhealthy to eat a 18oz ribeye, 2 eggs, bacon, and a waffle with butter for breakfast. The view of the Vermillion River was great too. All-in-all I believe it was a great getaway and this house is perfect for just relaxing. Ryan Schmitz was very nice an accommodating too! He answered all my emails and texts very quickly and gave clear answers. Thanks for the stay!
