About Inez Vermaas Owner
I was born in the Netherlands and lived in England and South Africa before moving to the USA in 2006. I studied biodynamic agriculture and specialized in cheese making. I have been living in the Finger Lakes since June 2013 and love the wide variety of activities that this region has to offer. I met Tom soon after moving here. He was born in Interlaken on Cayuga Lake, studied physical education and lived in 10 different states for over 30 years until he returned to the Finger Lakes in 2007. Is he happy to be back home? "Yes, there is no place like it!!" We enjoy the natural beauty that surrounds us on a daily basis and are happy to be able to share this wealth with other people. Inez

Why Inez Vermaas Owner chose Newfield
We fell in love with this property which dates from 1846 the moment we saw it on line. We love the beautiful peaceful surroundings and the close proximity to everything downtown Ithaca has to offer. Ithaca has an international vibe due to Cornell and Ithaca College and there are sooo many things to do and enjoy in the local surroundings!!
What makes this Cottage unique
A GREAT spot for nature lovers:We are surrounded by nature and keep seeing new bird species and other wild life. We have turned 5 acres of our property into a MONARCH BUTTERFLY SANCTUARY which can be seen and visited from the cottage. We are surrounded by fireflies during the month os July. Our 1/2 acre pond creates a natural balance between fish and aquatic plants (and the occasional dog…..) We live in the Manor House which is also situated on this property. It dates from 1846 and we have turned it into a small B&B offering two double rooms. So if you want to bring more friends and/or family we can put them up…..

Perfect long weekend getaway
We enjoyed the fresh air and the cozy nights. But also being able to bring our mini golden doodle was a plus. Owners Inez and Tom are super friendly and very helpful. We highly recommend to go. Also their two golden retrievers Floyd and Sally are so sweet.
Thank you so much for taking the time to write us such a positive review!
We are happy that you enjoyed your much needed down time at our cozy little abode! We hope to see you back some time!
Other than the hot and cold water situation which took some getting used to, nothing negative to say
Nuff sed
Lovely and Welcoming
Awesome. Nicely furnished.
Quiet Respite
Inez and Tom were warm hosts. Property is beautiful, listing is just as described -in a beautiful setting but also a quick trip into town. Highly recommend!
Thank you for your positive review! Our location, 7 miles from downtown Ithaca and close to the wine trails and four State Parks, all with beautiful water falls and hiking trails is much appreciated by our visitors!
We are happy that you enjoyed your stay and so did we!
Hope to see you again some time!
Regards, Inez and Tom
Beautiful and restful
This sweet cottage is surrounded by lush gardens and expansive views of fields and ponds. The cottage has its own large deck with table and loungers. The inside is comfortable and there is a well-equipped kitchen. The only glitch was that we had thought that breakfast was included since it is a “B&B.” But it is not included for the cottage. We had to go out for groceries after a long drive. A suggestion to the owners: give a breakfast option price or be sure people know they should arrive with food.
Our small dog was very happy on the deck and got used to the playful retrievers. We will certainly recommend this to friends.
Many thanks for taking the time to write us a review! We are glad the three of you enjoyed your stay! There is so much to do in our area that one can easily spend a week!
I am a little puzzled about you comment about expecting breakfast as it does not say we provide breakfast anywhere on the VRBO site. Nor does it state that we are a B&B; a vacation rental is per definition self catering and our kitchen is extremely well equipped. There is a large grocery store only 5 miles down the road and plenty of places which serve breakfast within a short distance........
We hope to meet you again some time!
Regards, Inez
The Perfect Place for Hiking and Relaxation
We chose this accommodation for our summer road trip because of its proximity to Ithaca and the abundant natural beauty of the area. The cottage and the surroundings did not disappoint. My husband and I, traveling with our 100 lb. pup (Ohio), dove into a great routine. Everyday we would get up early and sip on coffee while Ohio played with Floyd and Sally - the resident pups. These two pups quickly became Ohio’s BFFs and helped him expend his deep reservoir of 10-month-old pup energy.
Then we would pick a gorge and waterfall to hike. There are enough around to do one a day for a solid week. Our favorites were probably Buttermilk Falls and Lucifer Falls - both of which were only a few miles from the cottage.
Our hike would be followed by lunch in Ithaca. After that, we returned to the cottage to read and take a nap.
In the evenings we either returned to town for a dinner out or gathered a few items from the grocery store to make a meal at the cottage. We had everything needed to whip up a home-cooked meal. The bed was comfy, the a/c kept the house at a good temp, and the view from the deck was breath-taking.
Inez’s cottage was exactly what we needed: a quiet place to truly relax, breath fresh air, and indulge in much needed respite. This is a long drive from Kansas City, but I really hope we can make it there, again.
Thank you so much for taking the time to write this lovely review! It is ever so rewarding to see people arrive ,often after a long journey, relax, enjoy themselves and leave happy and rejuvenated! I am glad Ohio enjoyed himself as well; with his long legs he had plenty of space to run around with our two Goldens and this area is very pet friendly with plenty of activities for two and four legged guests!
We hope to see you again some time!
Regards, Inez &Tom
