[HI Tax ID TA/GE-064-855-0400-01] Located on the eastern most tip of the Big Island, The Gecko House is perfect as your base camp to experience all the adventure the Big Island has to offer. Even if you never leave the quiet beach community of Kapoho Vacationland, you can lose yourself in the underwater world of the Wai O’Pae tide pools and Lagoon, which boast some of the best snorkeling on the Island in a federally protected Marine Preserve. Surround yourself with fresh air, sunshine and spectacular natural beauty.
The Gecko House is a charming Hawaiian style beach house located 300 steps from the ocean with several points of easy water access and safe swimming. It sleeps 6 comfortably and works well for families with children or several couples. The Master bedroom has a king size bed and en suite. A hallway bathroom serves additional guests. The first Guest bedroom has two twin beds with excellent quality mattresses that are perfect for children or adults. The second Guest bedroom has a Queen size bed. Both guest bed rooms have access to the lanai. All bedding and linens are brand new. Let the sound of the ocean lull you to sleep, once you have gone for an evening walk under the stars. I mean STARS!
Family meals are a breeze with the fully equipped kitchen, including all appliances, and a dishwasher and garbage disposal for easy clean-up. The dining room seats six guests inside and additional seating at several tables on the 960 square feet of covered lanai. Large sliding doors lead out to the lanai from the dining room and living room allowing gentle ocean breezes to keep the house at a very comfortable temperature even on hot summer days. Beautiful palm trees and lush tropical plants surround the property.
If you decide to explore the Island, which I highly recommend doing, our location is perfect for setting out on your adventure. The Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is less than an hour away. Visit Kilauea Caldera, the most active volcano on earth. This is an educational excursion for adults and children alike. Hilo is less than an hour away. The Hilo Market on Saturday’s will immerse you in the sights, sounds, and smells of the Island culture. North of Hilo you will find some of the most amazing “views” on earth. Slip off the highway onto the “4 Mile Scenic Drive” and up the Hamakua coast. Keep winding your way north, around or go up and over the Island to the Kona (west) side. Every turn brings a new experience, another natural wonder, one more rainbow. In January the whales return to the warm Hawaiian waters with their young. They can easily be seen from shore. Get your camera ready. Head to South Point and hike the Ka’u dessert to Green Sand Beach. North, south, east or west, beauty abounds. Enjoy.
