Why Gail and Basil Ladd chose Downeast and Acadia

This home has been passed from generation to generation since 1835 in the same family. We acquired it in 1990 from Great-aunts Beth and Harriet, just like in Sarah, Plain, and Tall. Many generations of children grew up in this house and still can find the "secret door." Retired teachers, we are happy to share the family homestead with you.

What makes this farmhouse unique

Afternoon sea breezes from the southwest cool the house in the summer, and views from all windows will delight the visitor to this house with unique hand-hewn moldings and wide-plank floors.

We will stock the pantry for your breakfast pleasure with coffee and teas. There are plenty of sheets, pillows, blankets, comforters, towels and toiletries. The dining room table accommodates card games, jigsaw puzzles, and other board games found in the closet. Books line the bookcases for your reading pleasure. There are several sets of china and glassware including wine glasses and picnic ware. This is a true family home on the hill above a picturesque coastal village on a gorgeous deep-water harbor on East Penobscot Bay.
