Is Decorah really the center of the universe? You be the judge. This bright and airy flat comfortably sleeps four adults. There are two bathrooms, one with a walk in shower and the second with a soaking tub. The gourmet kitchen allows for friends to gather and share local produce while enjoying select wines available from the coffeehouse downstairs. Set the table on the large private deck and tell stories from your day's explorations. Arriving late? Let us know what supplies you would like to have stocked and we will have them in the cupboards and fridge upon your arrival. We look forward to your visit.
Doug and Andrew welcome you to our flat in the heart of Decorah. We moved to Decorah a year ago with our children from Southern California. Immersing our family into life in Decorah makes us great tour guides as we have recently become explorers of the beauty, diversity and culture of the Driftless Region.
Andrew Knox purchased this apartment in 2015
Owning a space where everyone feels welcome and well known was a dream difficult to realize in the heart of Southern California. Having both been raised in small towns, we felt it important to allow our soon to be teenagers the opportunity to experience life in a place where "everyone knows your name." Although we occasionally miss the warmth during winter, this is an amazing place to call home.
Wake up cradled in luxury cotton sheets, to the smell of freshly roasted and brewed coffee from Java John's Coffeehouse, literally downstairs from your bedroom. Stroll down the stairs and order breakfast or better yet, give us a a call and we'll bring whatever you order to your door. The large deck off the kitchen begs for you to read the morning paper and enjoy the 270 degree views of downtown, the bluffs and the Vesterheim complex. No other property in downtown Decorah boasts views from literally every window.
Our stay was fantastic! The flat is beautiful and in the perfect location! His attention to detail was impeccable! We very much enjoyed our stay here. I will be recommending this flat to anyone I know traveling to Decorah!
We had a wonderful stay at the Water Street Flat. Great place, a lot of room, clean, updated kitchen and bathrooms, and nice decorating. Perfect location for a weekend at Luther!
This is a great, central location. The property has been well furnished and decorated. It could use a little more noise proofing. When there is a band downstairs, you will be listening, too. Luckily, we enjoyed the music! I would stay at this property again!
As VRBO owners (#127598) ourselves, we appreciate other owners that strive to do it right, and we can say that these guys have done it right. The apartment has everything necessary for a great stay, the owners were great to work with, and the location is convenient to everything in Decorah.
We were in town visiting my husband's family and needed a nice place for 6 of us to stay. The flat was very clean and had everything we needed. Owner was great. Great location in town. My only complaint is that there are no blinds in the bedrooms. Our bed faced the street which has a bright cross walk sign that flashed the entire night. Otherwise, the flat was perfect. If we are ever back in Decorah, we will stay here again.
My wife and I utilized the apartment during Nordic Fest, the 50th anniversary. A native of Decorah, I was thrilled to find such a beautiful and well designed space in the heart of town. Totally renovated, the place was perfect in every detail. The kitchen would please the most discerning cook, the bedrooms comfortable and roomy. The back porch was terrific. We sat out every night and watched the town shut down. The details of decoration, wall hangings, furniture all were carefully thought out. The double pane windows provided a very quiet environment. And windows and porch that give views of the entire surrounding area, including the beautiful bluffs north of town. Downstairs is Java John's, also run by Doug and Andrew. It is hopping all throughout the day. A very popular coffee hangout that does not affect the quiet environment upstairs. It was nice to have that happy atmosphere so close, and very convenient for gourmet coffee, pastries and a few food items. Additionally, across the street, is the Decorah Oneota Coop, a small but impressive Whole Foods type store, providing many items we needed. I'm making our plans for another visit to Decorah, and will stay at Water Street Flat. Thanks, guys, for such a terrific place to celebrate a Decorah institution.
