Wonderful for family vacation
Beachfront property was a super location for our 5 day family vacation (7 adults + 1 toddler). This property was chosen for beachfront, the gate on the back deck (limiting beach access for toddler), large table on beach side deck, 4 bed/2bath and distance to RDU airport. The shabby chic décor was charming and welcoming. One umbrella and 4 chairs were adequate, I would expect more for a home that sleeps 8. A few more items owners should give some attention to:
1) We had to look for the grill, it was in a closet by the driveway, we pulled it out, one side barely worked. This made it difficult to grill out for 8. Even if the grill was working, it was too small for the home-PLEASE get a new, larger grill!
2) Since the grill was not functioning, we used the oven which was in need of a real good cleaning.
3) We could not use the fan in one bedroom b/c one of the blades was hitting the header on the ceiling.
4) Fix the 2 kitchen drawers that do not fully open
5) Fix the ice maker
6) Repair the broken ceramic tile on the kitchen floor since small pieces were loose.
7) Replenish the First Aid kit with gauze, tape and neosporin
As a VRBO beach home owner in Michigan, I fully understand the rental process and the challenges. Keep in mind that the guest renting at the end of the season is entitled to the same amenities as those who rent at the beginning of the season (beach chairs, a working grill and repairs).
Overall our family had a wonderful time jumping the ocean waves, collecting shells and watching the sunset/moon rise over the ocean-THANK YOU for sharing your home!
Hurricane shortened, but sweet
We love this property and it’s perfect for our family. However, the “Evolve” agency needs to bone up on hurricane awareness. Notice at 11:15 am on Tuesday that we need to evacuate by noon was unacceprable. We got out by around 2, but then I had trouble informing the agent that we were out (as I was instructed). Of course we were disappointed as we had rented the property until today (Saturday 9/7), but understand the necessity for evacuation. I hope the house survived Dorian!
Covered porch with rocking chairs was perfect, 50 feet from water. Inside conditions needed quite a few repairs: kitchen counter in rough shape by sink- split Formica, tile in kitchen had sharp edges where cracked- danger to 3 year olds bare feet, oven was filthy, edge of kitchen island was put together with scotch tape. Gaping holes in front soffit under roofline.. a siding company owner actually stopped by asking if we would like an estimate to repair the soffit. outdoor grill wouldn't work. There is a lot of deferred maintenance that needs to be done. Layout of house is nice with 2 bedrooms on each side of main room.
Charming beach rental.
This is our 2nd year in the Wind Drift house. Location is perfect. We had to contact the property manager on 2 occassions (Wifi went out and strong winds pulled house siding down). The PM was very responsive and quickly helped with the problems. The house is charming and nicely decorated.
The drawbacks with the property are that it is slated for 9 people, we have 5 and there are only 4 rocking chairs on the porch and there is is limited flatware. We found that serving dishes were also lacking so I left 3 serving bowls.
Great house for a small family
Perfect beachfront house for a small family (4-6).
