Why Rene chose Southwestern Colorado

This cabin is on Vallecito Lake. A beautiful, secluded mountain valley just 18 miles from Durango. It is one of the largest and most beautiful bodies of water in Colorado. The lake has about 12 miles of shoreline and sits right in the middle of the San Juan National Forest.

Nice cabin, well stocked and clean.

  • 2 of 5

Felt the cabin was really nice, but if you are looking for secluded, quiet place, this is not it. The cabins are packed very close. And unfortunately I went there for peace and relaxation. Not the owners fault, but 4 out of the 5 days, had to listen to an excavator digging across the road. Could not even set on the deck and read.

LOVE this place! Rene did everything so perfectly!

  • 5 of 5

We just got back from three amazing days. I stayed with my two kids (3 and 4) and husband in this little house. Rene actually met us there, brought us some eggs from her chickens, and told us about the area. She thought of everything - there were plenty of towels, pillows, dishes, coffee, salt and pepper, ketchup, back-up toiletries, tv, grill - all those little things that made it so we weren't inconvenienced at all.

The location on Vallecito is amazing with stunning views! We went into Durango the first day (my kids love the rec center) because it was rainy and spent the second day on the lake. We canoed with the canoe provided (we brought our own lifejackets for the kids, but used the ones provided for us) past the marina - which is right there, swam, bbq'd, watched tv, did a scenic drive around the area, I got to play in the kayak, and to top it off there were fireworks over the lake in the evening, and then after the kids went to bed, we went outside on the deck overlooking the lake and saw the full moon rise over the lake. The view from the cabin is worth a million bucks - you're looking through ponderosa pines to a still blue lake. Can't beat it.

The bedroom bed was super cozy, and the kids loved using the fold-out bed - because we told Rene about the kids, she had made it in advance. The place was immaculate when we arrived.

Another reviewer mentioned the trail -the deer trail down to the lake is well, a deer trail (which the kids loved), and the final bit is fairly steep so we had to watch it with the little kids, but the canoe and chairs were already down there, and you're right there on lake-front, so it was pretty awesome for us.

The final detail is the Mexican restaurant down the road (across the the Hideaway). It doesn't look like much, but Rene recommended it. It was UNBELIEVABLY good. We got deep fried tortilla wrapped green chile burgers. And WOW. I'm not much of a fry-type of girl, but that + fries was amazing! We returned later for ice-cream, which was also good. The little country market down the road also sold rocky mountain brats (we got the cheddar) and rib eyes, which we bbq'd - so yum. Needles to say, I'm still full from the weekend.

Overall - great location, beautiful little house, clean, million dollar lake view, lake accessibility, great price - we definitely would go again...

We are going to come back every year around this time, the cabin had everything that we needed. Very nice to see a property in good shape to include the deck overlooking the lake.

This is an amazing cabin on a peaceful and private lake. An excellent getaway to both relax and play

  • 5 of 5

I was initially nervous about picking a vacation rental sight unseen but the one bedroom cabin and the lake itself was great. We had plenty of room for two, cooked all our meals in the kitchen or on the BBQ grill. The cabin was clean and fully stocked. It was comfortable and really nice. The 2 bedroom next door was also rented out and we enjoyed getting to know the folks in that cabin. They even cooked a meal for us. So sweet. On the other side were permanent residents who were very friendly and ended up being from the same town. The cabin and surrounding area was quiet and peaceful.

We loved waking up every morning and seeing the lake. We went hiking, walked on the marked nature trail, visited the marina, checked out Bayfield, and most importanly relaxed. We decided to rent a boat at the marina to tool around the entire lake so we ended up not using the canoe and kayak available. Our neighbors used them and said they were great.

Overall very positive experience. No complaints and nothing negative to say about the cabin or the area.
