Casa Artista - This beautiful artist's home is now available for guests.
Here is a comment that was posted on Facebook by a former neighbor:
"Having lived next door to this little charmer since it was built (although I moved away last year), I know it's a wonderful and peaceful place for visitors and guests of Santa Fe residents to spend a few days or a week. The sunsets are beyond description, and the little breakfast/morning tea setting in the front courtyard is an inviting place to listen to the birds, watch the hummers and experience the sights and smells of the high desert. It's bound to be a people-pleaser for those who want more tranquility than the City Different can offer. And, it's under-priced for all that it is--sweet and cozy."
Stunning but simple Santa Fe style throughout, and everything you need for comfort and cooking, and relaxing. Fully equipped kitchen even has a slow cooker and waffle maker!
As a special treat, we provide the makings of some delicious Santa Fe snacks upon your arrival.
Casa Artista sits on an acre and a half on one of Eldorado's greenbelts, providing quiet communing with Nature and wildlife sitings from a large patio with dining tables and fruit trees. Protected night sky star gazing is a special treat. At this altitude, you are truly up among the stars.
You would think you were away from it all, but only a mile away is the Eldorado village commercial area with a great market, restaurants, wine bar, craft beer tasting room, and varied shopping activities.
And only 15 minutes away is the bustling Santa Fe Plaza area where the property owner has a lovely gallery which provides some of the amazing artwork in Casa Artista.
MAXIMUM OCCUPANCY: 6 . Sorry, but we are unable to make exceptions.
Children must be 12 years or older
No Smoking Inside or Outside. (Would present a fire danger to the greenbelt area.)
Our home can sleep six. The master suite has a queen bed, flat screen TV, comfy rocking chair, walk-in shower, and circular soaking tub. Guest room one has a queen bed and reading area, and Guest Room 2 has two twin beds and a rocking chair.
We DO NOT have extra sleeping space like pull-out sofas, futons, cots, etc. and do not allow sleeping bags to accommodate extra guests.
The high-ceilinged central living area (kitchen, dining, living room) divides the master suite from the guest wing. The two guest rooms are served by a guest bath with walk-in shower.
All the beds have thick memory foam mattress toppers for ultimate comfort, and every window in the house has a wonderful view.
With 1300 square feet of living space, a large patio in back, and a large, walled courtyard in front (with a covered swing), Casa Artista offers plenty of living space without being too large.
Ideal for a romantic getaway, a girlfriends' weekend, a family vacation with older children, or two couples traveling together, but also perfectly sized for a single vacationer to feel comfortable. Our home is NOT suitable for children under 12.

I am a Santa Fe artist and gallery owner who bought this house with my mother and brother in 2010 so my mother could live close-by. This was wonderful until she got homesick for Michigan, and moved back to her home town. We have kept the house as a family guest house and studio/getaway for me, but have now decided to offer its wonders to others as well.
Jessica Wesolek purchased this house in 2010
When we shopped for a home for my Mom, we were looking for a perfect little "castle", and that is what Casa Artista looks like as you drive up the road. It is perfectly sited on a rise and has wonderful views in every direction.
My main home is also in Eldorado - just 5 minutes away - and I love this community for its beauty and serenity. Eldorado used to be a huge ranch and when it was sold for development, there were many covenants put in place to keep the low profile, natural rolling, landscape looking unscathed. All architecture is one story, Pueblo or Territorial style, adobe colored, and blends beautifully into the natural surroundings. All power and phone lines are buried so nothing obscures your views, and the protected night sky is even more surreal than the amazing sunsets and cloud formations of the Santa Fe area.
My wife and I wanted to get away for the Thanksgiving holiday week with our two teenage children for fun and relaxation. Having recently lost my mom, we took my father with us so that he could enjoy family time with us as well. We wanted a peaceful, quiet place in the Santa Fe area but not in the city. After looking at various options online, when we came across Casa Artista we were sure we had found the perfect place. Once we got there, we were very happy to discover that we were right!
The house was everything we expected it to be and it met all our needs, with three spacious bedrooms, a comfortable living room, a well-equipped kitchen for cooking and baking, and a great table for dining and playing family board games in the evenings. There was even a really nice BBQ grill available, which we enjoyed using one day. The house was clean, well-maintained, and elegantly decorated, with the special touch of Jessica's artwork throughout. The house is in a great location, easy to find and with easy highway access only a few minutes from downtown Santa Fe, but with a secluded, private feeling due to being on a large lot with a greenbelt behind the house. It was super quiet and serene. The night sky was awesome with great star viewing. The grocery store nearby had everything we needed.
Jessica was very friendly and helpful. She met us at the house when we arrived, showed us around and made good suggestions. It was comforting to know that she was close by and that we could call if there was anything we needed (which we didn't since everything was already provided). We also had the opportunity to visit her gallery in Santa Fe and my daughter bought a nice pair of earrings there. Jessica offers her guests a small discount on purchases at her gallery, which was an unexpected bonus.
Activities we enjoyed included: the Georgia O'Keefe Museum in Santa Fe (a must if you're into art like my daughter and I are), the Loretto Chapel (you've got to see the spiral staircase to believe it), hiking and seeing the Anasazi cliff dwellings in Bandelier National Park (about an hour's drive from the house). My kids also really enjoyed doing a horseback trail ride with Broken Saddle Riding Company in nearby Cerrillos. Unfortunately we didn't have enough time to see MeowWolf, which Jessica recommended, but it sounds really cool and now we have a reason to go back.
I would definitely recommend Casa Artista as we had a very comfortable, relaxing, and enjoyable stay.
Three sisters from right and left coasts converging at Casa Artista for a warm week in the fall. House met all our needs, from barbequing to baking. Backyard visitors included quail, magpies, a giant jay, ubiquitous ravens, and lots of LBBs (little brown birds). The coyotes called at night, the night sky was beautiful, and we had a full moon. Comfy beds, well equipped kitchen, easy to keep tidy. And you can eat the apples. House is easy to find, has easy freeway access to all points, and Jessica was a pleasure to work with.
Grocery store met all our needs, including fish, and offers some bulk/bin purchasing. Not so good on Sunday or Monday until they restock from the weekend. Whole Foods and Trader Joes easy to find in Santa Fe.
Favorite activities: Kasha Katuwe Tent Rocks near Cochiti is a MUST – beautiful, mysterious, inspiring. Try the slot canyon trail – despite its warnings, you can go more than halfway up before it gets difficult (and we are all 60+). Also take the additional drive up to the veterans’ memorial for a look back down on the tent rocks. Rio Grande Gorge Bridge just past Taos offers great vistas. Chimayo for those who like fiber arts. Pecos National Historical Park is close to the house and a good introduction to pueblos. Bandelier was a closer look at cave dwellers. Next time we would make time for Los Alamos. And you can always follow the water by the aspen and cottonwoods in full fall color.
We did a restaurant food tour in Santa Fe one night – well worth the price. Jessica recommended the Terra Cotta Wine Bistro (near the beautifully curated Georgia O’Keefe museum and the Santa Fe School of Cooking )– we went there twice for lunch and wine! Also take time to pop into her gallery which is close by. We did a walk up Canyon Road, enjoying the exteriors but a bit oversaturated with all the galleries.
If you fly into Albuquerque, stop at the Visitor Information booth at the airport – they were very helpful and recommended the Turquoise Trail drive to Santa Fe instead of the freeway – a nice introduction to the landscape.
My wife and I attended a wedding north of Santa Fe and chose not to go into a downtown hotel, opting to stay outside of the city. After investigating options on VRBO for places to stay we chose Casa Artista and we were glad we did. We found we could leave the hustle and bustle of our busy days behind and relax in the peace and quiet of Casa Artista. In particular we enjoyed the back patio where we could relax, enjoy a cocktail and observe the activity in the greenway behind the house. If we make our way back to the Santa Fe area we will definitely consider Casa Artista. We found the home very clean, well equipped and comfortable.
We also found Jessica very nice to deal with. One of the suggestions she made was to visit a place called MeowWolf which we did and enjoyed very much. It is hard to explain so you will have to explore yourself.
This was a girl friends get-a-way weekend for Indian Market. We split up duties to plan the trip, mine was to choose a place to stay. I'm always nervous about looking at pictures and a map to make a decision for everyone; however, we were all in agreement we hit the jackpot. The home was clean, nicely furnished and equipt with everything we needed. The outdoor patios provided a perfect spot for our end of day ritual, wine, snacks, a review of our purchases and some great bird watching. Really great hummingbirds!
The owners were always available, helpful and delightful to work with. They made parking and restaurant recommendations that proved to be highlights of our trip. The village market just a mile away made grocery shopping easy and we even visited the local Farmers Market on Friday night.
So, will we go back--absolutely! And, will this be our choosen place to stay--absolutely! And, have I recommended it friends--absolutely!
This home was beautiful, clean, and comfortable. It was a great place to enjoy late nights and early coffee. Eldorado has a wonderful market, and La Plancha restaurant was delicious. The drive to Santa Fe was quick! A great place!
The pictures don't begin to do justice to how beautifully and artfully this home is decorated. I expected something typically southwest, but Casa Artista takes it up a notch. The red accents are the splash of color that this adobe home needs to stand out. The furnishing are topnotch and the kitchen has everything you need. We had a very comfortable, relaxing, and romantic stay.
Jessica met us at the house to show us around. We knew she was only a phone call away if we needed anything, but what could we possibly need. Like most homes in this area of New Mexico, there was no air conditioning, but there were portable swamp coolers and we were able to stay very comfortable despite the 90+ heat that weekend.
We visited every morning with the hummingbirds and other wildlife in the back over a leisurely breakfast. The flowers and plants in the front courtyard and the back area are especially lush for New Mexico and give you a feeling of being in an oasis in the desert. Casa Artista is on a large lot on the Greenbelt. You have an amazing view and privacy, yet you also feel very secure. It's a very short drive into old Santa Fe, but you may feel so comfortable you won't want to leave. I would highly recommend Casa Artista, and I hope to be able to stay again.
