About Amy & Matt Smith

We spend most of our year in Southeast Asia, working on human rights issues. Our work is focused on investigating human rights violations and working with local human rights defenders. We're both from upstate New York, but met in Bangkok and fell in love with Maine. This is house is our only home in the States.

Amy & Matt Smith purchased this house in 2015

Why Amy & Matt Smith chose Stockton Springs

After getting a taste of what Maine had to offer on a visit to the States, we started looking for a peaceful spot where we could watch the water, write and read and clear our heads. When we found this little house on the harbor, we knew we were home.

What makes this house unique

We never get tired of the water view from our windows- from watching ducks on the water to spying eagles nesting, there's always something to see. We love the privacy of our spot- we're tucked away in the cove giving us awesome views without the distraction of neighbors. Despite the remote feel, we're close to everything. Check out our list of things to do and see- all of it just a few minutes from our front door.

What an amazing little hideaway! Just Right!

  • 5 of 5

The home is well maintained and the property is at the end of the road so it was truly quiet. Scenery was amazing. My mom, who is 85, said the mattress in her room was the most comfortable thing she had ever slept on. Bar Harbor was an hour away and so outings were easy. Great food everywhere we went, especially the 10 min trip to Young's Lobster pound.

Totally would come back again!

Great locations for a quick weekend

  • 5 of 5

House was perfect for a quick weekend from New York! I was cute clean and a reasonable drive to all the sites in the area. The no tv was a little hard for the men during fall football season and the lack of having a bonfire when the neighbors were enjoying was tough

Family getaway

  • 4 of 5

We stayed end of Aug for my cousin's wedding, so only there for 3 nights. The house was exactly as described and shown in pictures. Tranquil, quiet, comfortable, clean. My grandson (almost 3)...his face lit up when he saw "HIs" Lion King chair. He dragged it everywhere, very nice touch. The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed for cooking. Although GPS was very sketchy for most of Stockton, we all made it straight to the house without incident. (We arrived separately) Truly lovely house if you need to stay in this area. We all meant to write in the guest book, but forgot. We all did the same thing at the wedding, lol. Mary & family. P.s. We looked in the cabinets, drawers and such for info about the owners work with human rights, but couldn't find it. Please send if you have any.
