Photos and Description of this 1 bedroom holiday cottage in Salisbury - Dunmore Duchess

The sun has just risen and its rays can be seen glistening over the placid lake waters. In the background, the cascading water of a cool Vermont stream can be heard. The robins are whistling a melodic song in the branches high above while hummingbirds can be viewed darting through the various deciduous trees.

Welcome to Dunmore Duchess, a private lake cottage located in Salisbury, VT. The cottage sits above Lake Dunmore and consists of one bedroom with a queen bed, one bathroom, and a slightly larger living room and kitchen. A bunk bed is located in the larger living space which can be used to accommodate more guests. Two stone patios, a deck and a dock are part of this peaceful retreat. Swimming, boating, fishing, sailing, kayaking, hiking, and biking are some of the wonderful activities that Vacationers can partake in during their stay. The cottage is located approximately 8 miles from Middlebury, VT and 6 miles from Brandon, VT of which both locations offer much in the area of art, entertainment, dining, culture, and shopping. Beautiful, private, cozy escape!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent four magical days at the Dunmore Duchess over Labor Day weekend. It was amazing!! The cottage is small but cozy; we spent most of the time in the outdoor spaces, either by the grill on the stone deck or on the front deck, which has a lovely view of the lake and the mountains. The area around the cabin was absolutely quiet, which we were really hoping for; the most common noise was one very vocal and curious chipmunk out back who was our constant companion in the four peaceful days.

The lake itself is paradise!! The water was the perfect temperature in early September, clear and fresh. Great swimming, and a great area for all water sports. The stairs down to the private dock are a tad treacherous, and since my husband has a bad knee, we ended up taking the car down to the water, which felt a bit silly but it was a good solution to the stairs problem. The private dock has some comfy chairs and is a great place to spend a couple hours in the sun.

The inside of the cabin is nicely decorated and cozy. I loved the vintage stove!! The kitchen is well-appointed. The queen sized bed in the bedroom has a good mattress and the linens were nice. The bathroom is tiny and the shower does not have tons of hot water. This property is maybe not the best for high-maintenance people, but it was perfect for us.

Lastly, Gene the property manager is friendly and very helpful, but he gave us our privacy and space.

Hoping we can return next summer!! Great experience! Thank you Jenifer.

Great, rustic cottage in the trees with excellent access to Lake Dunmore!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time at this cottage. Nice place to unplug and get away. The cottage is tucked away in the trees with a private sitting area, great deck perched in the trees. Direct access to Lake Dunmore down staircase with your own dock for fishing, diving, or just sitting and watching the water!

The cottage is outfitted with all the necessary essentials and we really enjoyed our stay.!

Clean and cozy

  • 4 of 5

The sunset views from the deck were spectacular! The manager was very responsive and helpful during our stay. The water situation was more difficult for us than I had originally thought it might be when it came to shower time but I think that's more of a reflection on us than the cottage. We enjoyed our time at Lake Dunmore very much.

cozy cottage with nice sunset view

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was better than we expected! It was very well kept, with many supplies we needed for the stay. Both the owner and the manager are very responsive to our questions. Very pleasant stay, will go back. Small, so only recommended for a couple or small family who want to enjoy nature and relaxation.

We had a great time

  • 5 of 5

This cozy cottage was perfect for our family of four. The water was warm, it was raining but we still were swimming. The kids caught one fish after another which they loved.

Perfect getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We were greeted by the property manager in the next town over and we caravanned to the rental: what ease! The house was situated up in the trees on a secluded side of the lake providing a cool respite from the sunny private dock and amazing sunsets views. We brought our own tubes for lounging in the water but didn't need to because some were provided. Also coffee and coffee filters, charcoal for the grill, some spices and cooking oil, soap and tons of clean towels were also provided: thanks! Special thanks to the property manager who provided more water than we could use (the tap water isn't suitable for drinking)!! Great neighbors! Great ice cream shop minutes away! Tons to do if you want to but we barely left the property and could have stayed another week.
