Great Apartment, clean, Beautiful and great location

  • 5 of 5

Thank you so much for giving us the opportunity to have a perfect weekend getaway for my fiancés bday. We stayed the whole family and we have an awesome time and love the apartment. It's so cozy and clean.

I need to be honest after reading the reviews of Gina and Anne I was really nervous but I think they were expecting something completely different or they have never rent apartments over the world. The apartment was great and we found everything we needed for our vacation. We didn't want to leave. We will be back for sure!

Not Good Enough!

  • 1 of 5

Our group was excited to be staying in a NYC 'walk up' brownstone. Until we arrived. A vintage property doesn't mean it doesn't have to be clean or well maintained. The hardwood floors were dirty, there were not enough linens on the beds (ill fitting flat bottom sheet only!), bathrooms had only bath towels (no facecloths or hand towels--until we called and they did bring a few face towels), no bath mats in the bathrooms.....And then i went to the kitchen. I started making coffee and found old grinds with mold in the filter! The deck off the kitchen would have been great, however it was so dilapidated you weren't sure if you'd fall through! Also, there was brick pieces in a large corner of the deck that had fallen from the floors above again begging the safety question. There were two glass doors leading to the outside deck--only one with a 'lock'. The other was open! The screen outside the glass door to the deck was ripped and unsightly.

The property itself is in a great location. It needs some care and attention and a good cleaner! However, in the condition we found it, I would never stay here again. In fact, it makes me not want to take a chance on another VRBO.

Dirty and In Ill Repair

  • 1 of 5

See the nice duvet covers in the photos? Not to be found. When you arrive you’ll find one dirty comforter without a cover laying against the bottom sheet (on every bed). There are no top sheets, which is very unhygienic. You’ll need to bring slippers as your feet get filthy walking across the unwashed floor. Pull back the drapes and see the empty Starbucks cup from the previous guest. It makes you wonder if the sheets were even washed. (I kept checking myself for bug bites). My bath towel was full of fresh dirt, like it had been used to wipe down a very dusty shelf and was then placed on my bed. While there are four bathrooms you’ll end up using two as sinks don’t drain and there is no water pressure for the shower. (We spent our valuable vacation time scouring the grocery store for Draino). The unit has good bones, is in a good location and was nice once, but it has been ignored and is badly in need of some TLC. There wasn’t a dishcloth or tea towel in the kitchen and there were limited utensils (not even a teapot) so you couldn’t cook. All the slider locks, save one small one, are broken on the doors to the deck, so the unit is not secure. Therefore, not good for a group of women (as we were). A group of guys fresh from a frat house who aren’t concerned about cooking, cleanliness or security might find this unit appropriate. For us, the experience has made us swear off using a VRBO forever.

Very disappointed

  • 1 of 5

We were twelve transplanted New Yorkers celebrating a milestone birthday. The apartment as described on line seemed a perfect venue for us. However, we were in for several shocking reality checks. Although the apartment is set in a perfect location for a visit to NYC, it has several major drawbacks. Upon entering one notices the locks on the door are not secure and there is no alarm system to protect the house. On one of the doors, the locks are completely inoperable. As one proceeds into the apartment, one notices the dust bunnies that infest the entry staircase. A little further on and the problems with lighting in the apartment become apparent. Bulbs are out, switches are broken, and the lights in the kitchen ceiling and over the sink prove a complete mystery. The apartment exhibits a lot of wear and tear. The locks on the windows are jury rigged; fixtures in the bathrooms are makeshift, especially in the powder room; not to mention that, when we stayed there, we found that the bath rooms still had body hairs from the previous tenants in the tubs and on the floors. There was also a bag of their garbage in the holder in the kitchen. The televisions had faulty connections to cable and did not function well. We had to use our own HDMI cable to get one of the televisions to work. There was one set of keys (even though two sets had been promised in the correspondence with the rental agency) for three families to share, which made independent excursions practically impossible. The deck off the dining room is dilapidated with broken screens on the door and window exiting to the deck. There is an old charcoal grill on the deck, which must represent a fire hazard and was incomplete anyway. There were limited utensils, pots and pans in the kitchen, which made cooking impossible. The ice machine on the refrigerator needed servicing and its water filter needed replacing (who knows for how long). There was seating for ten at the dining table in an apartment advertising that it could accommodate twelve (on one document 14). The most serious drawback was the lack of support from the management company whose representative, Fabio, promised much but delivered nothing, going dark on Saturday when we called to insist that the things he guaranteed to provide, especially extra sets of keys, which we had requested previous to arriving, replacing burned out light bulbs, and fixing light switches.

Great Location, plenty of space

  • 4 of 5

My wife & I, with our 3 teenage children were visiting NY from CT to hit some of the sights during spring vacation. We rented this apartment in mid-April for 3 nights during the middle of the week.

The location was absolutely ideal for our needs. While there was certainly some city action to speak of, it was definitely a much calmer section of the city. There were plenty of restaurants within walking distance, a good size grocery store and 2 subway stops a few convenient blocks away. It's not too far from Times Square and it's not a long subway ride to Central Park or even downtown.

The overall apartment was very spacious. The size was very adequate for our size group and could easily accommodate a much larger group. There are TVs in every room, with a good selection of channels. The Wi-Fi worked pretty well in the majority of the apartment. The beds were comfortable and well appointed. While we didn't use the kitchen -- opting to eat out mostly - it did seem to have all that was needed to have all your meals in house and everything looked to be in good working order.

While it wasn't a concern and didn't bother us at all, the "city" noise did seem to be a bit louder than should be, which I'd say was due to the older windows that could use some sealing and tightening. Nothing I'd be too worried about unless you need absolute quiet.

The apartment was very clean upon entry and the cleaning service people were there to greet us and hand over the keys. They were extremely pleasant and were obviously there to make sure we got everything we needed and were ready to enjoy our stay.

Last, the rental property manager was also extremely helpful and was gracious throughout the process. Was timely with responses and was there to help and answer any questions along the way.

Overall, I'd recommend this as a place to stay during a NY visit.
