Not what we expected.
This is a 160 year old home. Some rooms were renovated pretty well, and others were not. The kitchen had very cheap appliances and some cupboard doors would not close. A mouse visited us a few days into our visit, pooping on the stove and counters. The house is 50 yards from busy Maine Hwy 1. There are two other rental units attached to the main house, so there was some unexpected noise to deal with on occasion. The owners are currently trying to sell the property and the listing description is not very accurate, in terms of the condition of the property. We will be very careful in the future when looking into renting an old historic property.

Perfect for history buffs
Experience a bit of coastal Maine. Excellent marine museum just up the street and home full of antiques. Lots of room for family gatherings. Only drawback is noise from US 1 early mornings to evenings. Hosts are only a phone call away if questions arise.

Amazing
My husband and I absolutely loved our stay. It was comfortable and very relaxing. Rooms were clean and very roomy. Owners were great in communicating prior to our arrival. Nice grill and patio area for cooking out. Would not hesitate to book again at that location!!!!

Old sea captain’s house
A beautifully appointed, large old captain’s one-time mansion. Beds were comfortable, with two bathrooms. It’s age shows with original windows and beautiful floors…which were not quite so level. Great sitting room with an immense library. Great location!

Large house, plenty of room, and great owners to work with
House was nice and big, plenty of room. Cleanliness was not what we expected - it's an old house and seems like whoever cleans the place was doing a poor job. We contacted the owners several times during our stay though and they were excellent to talk to, heard and expressed regret about our concerns - they seemed earnest about their desire to address our concerns for future guests and even gave a small refund for our experience. We were staying here partly because it was near a wedding we were attending. If we were to go back, I wouldn't choose this house again simply because of the location - its far from Acadia (1 hour+ to entrance, then add at least 20 minutes to get anywhere in the park). This really ate up our days since we went to Acadia 4 times during our stay. Had I known better, I would have stayed farther from the wedding and closer to Acadia. Although the nearby town of Belfast was nice. Would absolutely work with these owners again if they had other properties in a location we desired.

Why they chose this property

Most accessible and affordable jump-off point to enjoy the beautiful coast of Maine! Located between Bar Harbor and Camden/Rockport.

What makes this property unique

Live in an original home where you can step back to a place in time where sea captain's from the coast of Maine (and this house) traveled to exotic places with sails unfurled as they reached such foreign shores as Havana, Hong Kong, and the English ports. In the evening, enjoy the refreshing hot tub and beautiful sunsets as you grill fresh seafood and other delicacies on your grill.
