We look forward to your visit to The Cabin on Amelia. In the heart of Central Minnesota’s lake country you will find the perfect place to enjoy a getaway with family and friends with something for everyone!
Lake Amelia is a 934 acre spring-fed lake with great water clarity. It is Pope County’s second deepest lake with a depth of 69 feet at its deepest point. The lake has something to offer for everyone. The public access is directly across the lake for your watercraft. Lake Amelia is perfect for swimming, fishing and water sports. The dock and lake shore shed are yours to use during your stay. You will enjoy fishing off the dock for pan fish and the occasional bass. The game fish sit on the edge of the drop-off very close to The Cabin. Just south of Amelia on State Highway 28 you will find a 24 hour bait shop.
The Cabin is a year around rental, located on a beautifully landscaped hill. With 150 feet of shoreline it has fantastic views of the lake and stunning sunsets. Our large yard is perfect for yard games and includes a swing set for the kids. Have fun on the lake with 2 paddle boards, 2 single kayaks, a paddle boat and a canoe available onsite during your stay. Enjoy outdoor seating on the lakeside with beautiful views. At the end of the day you will find that there is plenty of room around the fire pit to relax, roast marshmallows and tell fish stories.
Our home is really 2 cabins in 1! It consists of TWO 3 bedroom cabins separated by a 1200 sq. ft. common room. This area has two screened porches… one for relaxing with a good book or good company and one of which boasts a Foosball table, multi-use game table and large stand-up freezer. We also have a collection of board and yard games, something for everyone! The sunken living area is set up with a bar, refrigerator, electronic dartboard, Bluetooth enabled portable stereo, a large seating area and a big screen “smart” television with DVD player, Direct TV and Netflix. FREE Wi-Fi is included. You will have all of the room you need and plenty to do indoors and out!
Each side of the cabin has 3 bedrooms, a full kitchen and living room with fireplace for cool evenings. The North side has two bathrooms, 2 king size beds, a crib, 2 bunk beds and a pull-out couch. The South side has one bathroom, 2 king size beds and a full size bed. Laundry facilities can be found on both sides. The Cabin sleeps 16 comfortably with 20 max. Each kitchen is fully equipped, bedrooms are supplied with plenty of comfortable bedding and each bath is equipped with towels for your indoor use.
Just a few hours drive from the Twin Cities your vacation will begin! From Alexandria, it will take you about 20 minutes to reach the northern shore of Lake Amelia. Located in Pope County, the lake is about 4 miles northeast of Glenwood. Villard is just a few miles away. These communities are home to many wonderful parks, lakes, recreational areas, shopping and community events. What could be better than going to The Cabin!
We are the Ettesvold Family! Though our rental on Lake Amelia is new, our time on Lake Amelia has been a life time! My husband and I grew up in Granite Falls, MN. Friends and family brought us to Lake Amelia and from that moment we were hooked! In 1997 we moved to Phoenix, AZ and missed lake time so much. We purchased a cabin just down the way in 2003 and sold it in 2013. After building a cabin in the White Mountains of Arizona, we found ourselves missing the cabin and our time on the lake.
Josh and Maren Ettesvold purchased this house in 2015
Our goal for the cabin ultimately has always been to bring people together and build relationships! We met the previous owners of The Cabin (La Quinta) years ago and we always thought it would be perfect cabin to bring people together and make memories. Fast forward to spring of 2015 - we found this cabin for sale. Perfect timing!
Our home is unique for so many reasons! 2 kitchens, 2 dining rooms and 2 laundry rooms (2 sets of front loading washers and dryers) is one of the biggest advantages. The rec room in the middle of the home is so perfect for adults and children alike. Have people who want to go to bed early? No problem, the home is large enough to accommodate that and still have a lively get together on the other side!
Very nice and updated home that fit our families so well. We enjoyed having the central gathering area to bring all together, yet having another two living rooms to find a slow paced zone. We very much enjoyed the dart machine, well equipped kitchens, foosball, card table, and comfortable beds. Right outside was great ice fishing where you could see the northern and walleye come up to your hooks. Spear fishing seems to be popular on the lake. Enjoyed wide open ditch riding on the snowmobiles with trips to the local tavern / café in Villard. Maren (Owner) was always polite, prompt and a pleasure to speak with. Thank you!!
We (my children, grand-kids and myself) all had a wonderful time. The cabin was fantastic and all the water items (canoe, paddle boards, kayaks, and paddle boat) were enjoyed by all. Even though it was late in the year and the water was cold, the grand-kids even got in a little BRIEF swimming. We really enjoyed our nights around the fire pit and the grand-kids loved the swings and slide. The cabin was huge, very clean and just perfect for all the kids and adults we had there. Everything went so smooth. Thanks to Josh and Maren and the caretakers. It was a wonderful weekend and we look forward to returning someday. Chris
We rented this cabin for my husband and a group of guys for a golf/lake weekend. They loved the spacious cabin, and all of the amenities. They made great use of the lake (good fishing!), firepit, and indoor activities like darts and poker table. Maren was very responsive from the time of booking the cabin, and communication was great throughout the entire experience. We'd definitely consider this place again for a bigger group. It had everything we need, and more!
Great redo, tastefully done. 2nd year improvements were well done.
Wine glass broke
Door slam no adjustment for door...missing bolts.
Swing slide needs supports on top...child fell off.
Dishwater tabs and toilet paper
Bed Topper on north pullout
The cabin layout offers a "community" feel for our large family with lots of opportunity for privacy. We thoroughly enjoyed the kayaks, canoe and paddle boards. It was also nice not to have to worry about enough outdoor chairs for us all. Many nights we enjoyed the dart board and pool table. The 2 kitchens, washer/dryers, extra fridge and commercial freezer greatly reduced any extra trips to the store. The new furniture and flooring offered an upgraded experience with tasteful decorating. It's hard to enjoy a cabin when you feel like you're living in someone's home, but this cabin is welcoming with a few special touches. We were able to find all the needed cookware with a little searching and the marked shelves were helpful to keep things organized. Our only main complaint was that a few of our older guests felt that the mattresses were not comfortable and the larger open space in the center of the cabin seemed a little crowded with the large sofa (but it is comfortable). We enjoyed our stay immensely and enjoy the little extras not found at other rentals. Thank you.
Our family, 7 adults, 7 grandkids have rented houses on lakes for the past 8 years. This is the first time that we are going to re-rent for next year. Some of the reasons why: cabin owners were fantastic to work with, no matter how small the issue was, they were always available.
The cabin is huge. With 14 people, we never felt crowded. 2 sets of washers & dryers, 3 bathrooms! Another biggy for us was 3 refrigerators AND an upright freezer. We are a fishing family and it was HUGE that we were able to have enough freezer space to freeze all the fish we caught! We didn't have to worry about food unthawing in coolers. Grandkids had plenty to do if they didn't want to fish, paddle boat, kayaks, canoe, etc. In previous years we either liked the house and the fishing was awful or the fishing was great but the house was too small. The cabin on Amelia had it all! Great cabin and great fishing!
