Right next to the National Forest, our vacation home has 2 plus bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms. The master suite has a king size bed, full bathroom and oversized dressing room. The second bedroom has a queen bed and closet. A full, gourmet cook's kitchen is stocked with appliances, cookware, cook books, oven and range, warming drawer, combination convection and microwave oven, side by side refrigerator and dishwasher. Granite tile countertops and a special maple baking top make this a great place for cooking up special meals. The living room has vaulted ceilings, tile floors and a delightful pellet stove to keep you warm in the cold days of winter. There is a queen pull out sleeper in the living room for extra guests.
The house sits on an acre of property, not including the thousands of acres of adjacent public forest lands. In the backyard there is a covered rustic gazebo and a propane grill. Mountainaire is a quiet, peaceful village just south of Flagstaff and the surroundings reflect its rural, eclectic ambiance. There's room for horse trailers and their occupants too. Elk are often visitors in the front meadows and in the woods behind us. Good birdwatching and wildlife viewing abound. Trails for mountain biking, hiking, dog walking, atving, and horse back riding go right from the property line.
Children love the huge yard for exploring nature, playing games and just being children. There are trails for hiking, walking, mountain biking and even cross country skiing or snowshoeing when the conditions are good, that start right in the back yard. Down the road is the Mountainaire Tavern and the Mountainaire Country Store that stocks grocery basics. For wine lovers the Cork Screw Wine bar is next door at the Abineau Lodge where the owners of the home and the Lodge reside too.
Some people say that in Mountainaire, everyone and their dog owns a dog! So pet owners are welcome here as well. What a great spot to bring your pup. Play fetch in the front yard or go for a run or a walk in the woods. You’ll see plenty of other people doing the same.
In addition to vacations, the home is available for small retreats, small family wedding and reunions. Meals can be catered from the Abineau Lodge for events and, by prior arrangement, for regular stays.
The home is located in such a safe and rural environment that windows can be left open to feel the night air and neighbors rarely lock their doors. It’s a far cry from city life and the atmosphere is small town and country living. Hawks circle the valley in search of a meal, elk herds meander the woods and meadows grazing on grasses, ravens talk to each other all day and the rat-tat-tat of woodpeckers is a daily sound.
My husband Jaime and I moved into the home in 1995 with our 5 year old son Alec.In 1997 we built a bed and breakfast on the lot next door. In 2014, after our son moved into his own home we decided to move into the bed and breakfast, downsize the business. and rent the house out for vacationers. We finished remodeling the house in June 2015 and it is ready for renters. We live right next door in the Abineau Lodge which now has a Wine Bar and small restaurant. Jaime now has time to devote to his full time business as a general contractor and I have more time to devote to my part time law practice. And, best of all, I now get one day off a week!
Wendy White purchased this house in 1995
We love the location of our property, and the size of the lot. We're tucked back from Mountainaire Road on a 4 acre parcel that backs up to thousands of acres of National Forest. The meadow land on the front of the property is a grazing area for our local elk herd and supports numerous birds of all kinds. Small animals such as porcupines, squirrels, raccoons and the occasional coyote meander through the fields and the forest around the house. Mountainaire is a quiet little village and most everyone goes into Flagstaff to work. Mountainaire Road dead ends in Mountainaire and the only traffic is local. At night the skies are dark and the stars shine brightly. It's a place where you can leave your windows open and doors unlocked. It reminds me of the village I grew up in in Vermont.
Great place! Great hostess and great overall place to stay! Back to nature with a modern twist! Would love to return sometime soon!! Love it to the max! Excellent!!!!
This beautiful home tucked in the woods is meant for a peaceful getaway. We were impressed with how clean it was and all the available tools to keep it clean (with 2 dogs). The kitchen was loaded with a variety of gadgets to cook all meals. Just a short drive to downtown Flagstaff makes this rental ideal for people who want to enjoy both nature and nightlife during their vacation.
What a gem in Mountainarre!! Clean!! All the amenities you need. The ONLY thing that would totally rock this VRBO is a fence so if you have pets, you can let them loose outside. The wine bar next door, the tavern & general store add to the greatness of this little gem!
Only 90 minutes from the Grand Canyon, Flagstaff is surrounded National Parks, Monuments and forests. It's an outdoor sport paradise and nature lover's dream. Visit Wupatki National Monument, Sunset Crater, and Walnut Canyon National Monument to see ancient ruins. Take the scenic highway 89 to Sedona for a view of the remarkable and beautiful red rock country.
