I own and operate a country store in Largo, Florida. I grew up in the town of Greene, NY which is about 9 miles away from where the cottage is located. I've lived in Florida for the last 30 years, and plan on using my cottage a couple of months a year myself!
Stuart Opp purchased this cottage in 2013
My grandmother owned a cottage on this lake in the 1950's. When this property became available, I just knew I had to have it. Before I moved to Florida I'd spend hours and hours in the surrounding woods exploring and hunting. One of my favorite pastimes is just getting in the car and driving on the hundreds of miles of unpaved roads that crisscross this whole area.
I've always been a fan of post and beam construction. When I saw that this cottage had the joists, beams and rafters all exposed, I was immediately attracted to it. Since I've gotten it, I've insulated the roof from above, leaving the roof rafters exposed. On the first floor, all of the floor joists and wood floor above are all exposed. I think it's a great look!
My son and I had a very good time on a lake fishing for bass . Cottage has everything you need. Other lake and river close to the cottage give us more opportunities to explore outdoors. Thank you.
My husband and I rented this property for a week. It has a great rustic charm. Wonderful for am kayaking on the lake. The weather was beautiful. It has a perfect fire pit to cozy up around. Sitting on the screen porch in the early morning watching all the wildlife the Gease in the morning. The Hawks and cranes swoop and grab fish from the lake. Fishing is great in the lake. There is a row boat to use along with a canoe. It was very delightful stay. We enjoyed it.
We had a very good time on a lake. Cottage has everything you need, but don't expect luxuries. We enjoyed lake front, fishing from the dock and daily rowboat excursions. Stuart and property manager Dustin were very helpful at any point of our trip. We highly recommend this lake for Bass fishing, my boys caught 4-5 of them every evening. Couple suggestions: it would be great to have couple of life vests when using row boat or a canoe (we had our own) and spring cleaning/mopping would go a long way.
Thank you for a great stay. Barbara, Jack and kids.
My wife and I had a great 5 days at this cabin by the lake. The summer crowds were gone and left us to some wonderful peace and quite by this cozy little lake watching the leaves turning colors. We were a bit worried when we showed up and saw that all the neighbors had seados and jet skis, thankfully The busiest day for all the seados and pontoon boats was Saturday and that was the day we went for a drive and apple pickin. We were also worried about the closest neighbor that is a bunch of trailers and a mobile home that is about 50ft away and shares the big lake front yard, but thankfully they were not there for our stay. The place was a bit of a work in progress, bare light bulbs and wiring and unfinished entry. It was a bit of a shame as well to have such a cool old style back woodsy cabin being fixed up with art deco Home Depot refurbishing. I was quite surprised to discover that the cabin was the only one on the lake that didn't have any Adirondack chairs (I think they are even named for this area), thankfully a neighbor let us borrow some so we could enjoy the nice lake front yard, fire and dock. My wife and I both agreed that it was a pretty bare bones bachelor hunting/fishing kind of feel to it. The place could really use a "womens touch" to make it more comfortable. We were a bit cramped in the double sized bed, could have used at least a queen bed with pillows (not provided). Place was a bit of a conundrum with bedding but no pillows, nice lake front yard with no chairs, wine chiller with no wine opener?. Out in the country but only about a hundred yards from a pretty busy cross state highway with frequent semi trucks. All and all my wife and I really had a nice time and would recommend staying there once the place gets a few more finishing touches to it.
My husband and I needed a quiet retreat from hectic everyday life and this was perfect. The cottage has many upgrades making it very comfortable. There is a screened porch looking out on the yard that goes down to the lake, perfect for drinking our morning coffee. We loved waking up every morning to a view of the lake from our bed. We took a trolling motor to use on the provided row boat and even caught some fish. The water at the end of the dock is only abou 3 ft. Deep making it perfect for young children. We are already looking forward to staying here next summer.
