My Family and I stayed at the Sandpiper Beach House over the Thanksgiving holiday. It was the first time any of us have decided to spend a holiday somewhere other than home. That being said, this is a trip we're talking of repeating every Thanksgiving. We loved the house & area! The views were amazing, as was the space. We had 5 adults, 1 child, and multiple dogs and we didn't feel at any point we were stepping on each other. The kitchen was extremely well stocked. The apartment downstairs had a kitchenette that was perfect for my husband, son, and I. It was quiet and comfortable...plus we had the easiest access to the hot tub :-) The pictures don't do this house justice. It felt comfortable and like home our first step in.
The beach access was just a step away which made it very easy to enjoy our daily walks. And what a BEAUTIFUL beach!! I don't think any of us were ready to leave.
A big thanks to Denny for answering any questions I had. And also getting back to me in record time. We'll be back! It would be amazing to come back during the summertime to enjoy a jet boat ride on the Rogue River and explore more trails :-)
We loved this house! My adult sisters and brothers-in-law, and three dogs, were so comfortable. Each had their own room, including the downstairs apartment. Nicely appointed great room with open kitchen and lots of places to lounge, view the waves and start the short walk to beautiful Bailey Beach. Nice amenities such as a big screen TV, blue ray, Roku, and Internet reception was very good. Fully-equipped kitchen, too. Of course, we also lucked out with fabulous weather. We would definitely rent this house again for our family gatherings!
This place is fantastic. The location is spectacular. The house has fantastic views of the ocean, close enough that we could often times see whales spouting past the surf line. The walk to the beach is very short, literally less than 100 yards. The beach is long, beautiful, safe to walk on, with lots of driftwood. The home is close to Gold Beach, about a mile or so north of downtown, an easy bike ride away (which we did many times). The house is beautiful. Roomy. Great central living space conductive to family time of relaxing with friends. Lots of room for sleeping. Very attractive and functional kitchen. We took advantage of the jacuzzi, where you can hear the surf. The house was very clean. The owner was very easy to work with. Promo response to email. Great communication in a timely fashion about where the lockbox is, combo , etc. Great notebook at the house with info about local activities , restaurants, tours, etc. Already thinking about our next trip here. This is a great spot. You will not be disappointed. BDS Ashland, OR.
This is one of the nicest Oregon Coast beach houses we've stayed in and I have been going there for at least 50 years (better than described). It's effectively right on the beach with great views and easy access to a flat beach. It is wonderfully clean and well equipped so just bring yourself and some food. In the fall bring flour so you can make blackberry cobbler or pie, there every were you look and they are free. The owner is a dream to work with and Gold beach is a fun little town. The Spinner is a must try restaurant for a great meal and atmosphere.
The plus and minus of the location are the same, It's a long way (time and road distance) from I-5 which makes it a long trip for just a couple of days, but the beach makes it worth it. This beach is quiet and peaceful if you like to walk in serenity. It is nice and flat for kids to play and has plenty of driftwood to build forts and imagine yourself in a fantasy world. We will definitely be back and next time it will be for a longer stay.
We shared this home with our two grown sons and their families. There was so much room for everyone -9 of us all together. The main floor is spacious and open and light. The kitchen has everything you might need - lots of plates, glasses, bowls, etc. Also multiple sizes and types of pans. It was great having the apartment downstairs for our youngest son and his family, including two babies under 2 years old. The house and the neighborhood were very quiet. It was very clean and well maintained. The beach was a short walk away from the house and had long stretches of smooth sand for walks and sand play for the little ones, lots of driftwood, smooth round rocks, and lapping waves. The beds were so comfortable as was the furniture in the main room, lots of pillows and throws and big fluffy towels. There was a high chair and a bouncy seat for the little ones. There was a large selection of movies, books, magazines and games. The 52" TV was great and had Netflix and other options. The hot tub was perfect and private. Denny was so helpful and cheerful through the whole rental process and answered all our questions promptly. This home has everything your family could want for a perfect beach vacation. We had a very good time and we plan to stay here in the future.
Absolutely phenomenal. My Family and I had such a lovely weekend here. I wish we could have stayed longer. The location was within steps of the beach, there was a lovely hot tub on the patio and a house to spray the sand off. The downstairs apartment was charming and the kids really enjoyed having their “own” house. The beach was very dog friendly and many residents were out walking their dogs in the neighborhood. The grocery store was less than 10 minutes away. Denny was a remarkable host, completely accommodating and extremely responsive to email. I would recommend this home a thousand times over.
Our comfortable beach house is two miles north of Gold Beach where the Rogue River meets the Pacific Ocean. Sunsets and unspoiled nature will create memories that will last a lifetime. Whether taking a jet boat ride (May 1 – October 15) or striking out on your own the Rogue River valley is a nature lovers paradise with Bald Eagles, Osprey, King Fishers, loons, ducks, Blue Herron, cranes and sea gulls all working the salmon rich waters. Elk, deer, mink, river otters and black bears are commonly seen on the shores edge. The life cycles and types of salmon in the Rogue, along with history of gold mining, canneries, logging and past native traditions are well presented at the free museum at the port in Jerry’s Jet boats gift shop. The Indian Creek Fish Hatchery (2 miles up Jerry’s Flat Road, north bank) releases tens of thousands salmon into the Rogue River via Indian Creek to help rebuild Chinook salmon populations. Tours are available. Salmon fishing is a favorite pastime from early April to mid October. Thirty, forty and some fifty pounders are common catches even though catching a 20 pound salmon also will not soon be forgotten. If you are looking for condo lined beaches with plastic imported souvenirs go further north, but if hiking, fishing, biking, kayaking, bird watching, romantic beach walks at sunset and Oregon at its best are on your wish list, come stay at The Blue Heron Beach House and “Make memories that will last a lifetime”.
Our beach house is located in the middle of what we consider the most scenic 50 mile stretch of the entire Oregon coast. Sea stacks, sea caves, arch rocks, tide pools and uncrowded beaches line the coast beginning out your front door and continues 25 miles either direction. Every mile holds unbelivable streches of beach with each area holding it own special offering. Take advantage of the numerous state parks and parking areas for trails to find the magic!
Twenty-five miles to the north is Port Orford is the oldest town on the Oregon Coast (est.1881) and is also the most westerly town in the lower 48 states. The Port at Port Orford is unique from most you may have seen. The bay is too small and unprotected for mooring so the boats are stored on land and lowered to the sea with a crane. This “Dolly Dock” is one of only two in the U.S. The port is also home to a live fish supplier. Saltwater tanks line the dock to accept the live catches of the day before they ship to restaurants around the nation. You can also see the tuna, black cod, ling cod, rock fish and many other species being unloaded from the boats. If your timing is right fresh fish can be purchased. When you are at the port be sure to sample the local seafood at Griffs, not fancy but good food, they also have a fresh fish market.
Visit Battle Rock on the south end of town to relive one of the town’s famous pioneer events and if the tide is out you can climb to the spot the settlers took refuge from attacking Indians. At the top of Beacon Hill you will find the Port Orford Lifesaving Station Museum, an 1890’s U.S. Coast Guard encampment. Views there are outstanding and the history is fascinating. Agate Beach is a place where an entire day can disappear as you listen to the thunderous crashing wave’s while watching sea birds land on the sea stacks just off shore. Crab and fishing boats travel back and forth just off shore working the rich fisheries. And then there are the agates! These semi-precious stones line the beach in this area. The amber, blue, grey and white treasures are revealed when the sun touched them in a burst of radiant color. Searching for them is a delightful addiction. There are several art galleries and restaurants in this sleepy village that far exceed what you would expect.
Cape Blanco Lighthouse
Just a few miles north is Cape Blanco Light House (circ.1870), tours of the light house are available (April-October). The Hugh’s House, an 1885 dairy farm is located on the road to Cape Blanco. This historic home is open for tours (April-October).
Redwood State Park
The majestic Jedediah Smith Redwood State Park is just 50 miles south featuring Stout Grove where you can walk through a magnificent collection of towering redwoods and then head down to the Smith River to cool off in the lazy currents of cool water.
40 miles north on Hwy 101 you will find The West Coast Game Park Safari where you can interact with animals from around the world. Bandon Dunes championship golf course is open year round, old town Bandon has many galeries, shops and restraunts to explore plus crabbing from the dock.
Farther north you will find Shore Acres Gardens filled with exoitic plants gathered from around the world by a famous sihps captain.
