About Richard or Maria Burcroff

Maria and Richard moved to the Washington Area almost 40 years ago. Both have traveled extensively, often internationally, to pursue studies, professional trips and also for pleasure. They have recently retired. Maria and Richard enjoy reading and writing, British sitcoms and TV detective stories, video documentaries and movies at nearby movie houses.

Richard or Maria Burcroff purchased this apartment in 2007

Why Richard or Maria Burcroff chose Silver Spring

We moved into the area in 1979 and purchased a home in Alexandria, VA, a delightful locale with good primary and secondary education opportunities for our two children. After our kids left home for college, we decided to downsize and eventually relocated to Downtown Silver Spring, which was undergoing a dramatic revitalization that has led to the vibrant and diverse community Silver Spring has become in the past decade. We decided to purchase a condo which, fortuitously, coincided with the initial offerings for units in the Crescent Condominium....and haven't looked back!

What makes this apartment unique

Located in the heart of Downtown Silver Spring, MD and less than a half mile from the District of Columbia's northern border, the Crescent is quite new, very secure and extremely well managed. The entryway and other common facilities are modern and well maintained. The apartment is fully equipped and comfortable, with modern appliances and -- as noted -- stunning views from the balcony and from windows on two sides. The unit also is positioned for convenient access to a regional Metro-rail hub and local bus services, as well as Downtown Silver Spring's vibrant commercial district.

You will be next door to Discovery, the American Film Institute’s silver theaters, and shopping opportunities. A block away, Fillmore East offers popular and avant garde musical entertainment. Next door to the condo is a state of the art and architecturally pleasing regional library, newly opened.

Extend your stay to explore nearby Annapolis, home of the US Naval Academy. Nearby old-town Alexandria and several National Historical Parks in Northern Virginia are immersed in Civil War history and fun places to visit. Go North on the nearby I-95 corridor to Baltimore, with its beautiful Inner Harbor, Fort McHenry (remember the Star Spangled Banner?) and our National Aquarium. Drive north on I-270 and US 15 to the Gettysburg battlefield and national park, a most important turning point in the War Between the States and site of Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address.

For business travelers, transportation to Federal government offices is extremely convenient; as well as to World Bank and IMF headquarters; several international consultancies, local universities and policy research institutes. Whether your visit to Washington, DC is brief or more leisurely, this fabulous condo unit is conveniently located for both business and pleasure.

Lovely condo with all the comforts of home!

  • 5 of 5

The Burcroff's condo was a wonderful temporary home for me from January 7 to Feburary 11 earlier this year. I needed a place that was fully equipped with all the amenities I am used to while I was working temporarily for the FDA in White Oak. This condo had everything I needed for work including WiFi, a printer, a desk, a shredder, and convenient parking (across the street, not included in the price, but reasonable). It also had all the comforts of home that I was used to, including a large king bed, LOTS of storage space for clothes/necessities, an in-unit washer and dryer, a fully equipped kitchen, large refrigerator, comfy couch and cable TV.

Everything you could possibly need in terms of daily living are provided for you, so don't worry about bringing things such as towels, linens, extra blankets, pots/pans, dishes, silverware, trash bags, paper products, dish soap, detergent, etc. The Burcroffs have really thought of everything. They even have some reusable grocery bags (convenient because there is a small charge for plastic bags in Maryland). It's also extremely convenient that there are trash and recycling dropoffs on every floor of the building. Very easy and comfortable living.

The location is excellent and hard to beat. Everything you need is in walking distance, including Safeway, Whole Foods, CVS, Starbucks, a Movie Theater, and dozens of different restaurants. There is a free gym downstairs with some basic machines, but there is also another gym right across the street with more advanced equipement and a swimming pool(!) which I was able to join at $30 for 30 days and no contract.

The Silver Spring metro stop on the Red line is very easy to walk to and I took it into downtown DC a few times with no problem. Extremely convenient. I only ever needed to use my car to go to work, everything else was in walking distance.

The only things I missed on my stay here were pantry space and access to a mailbox. If I ever return to the Silver Spring or DC area, I would gladly stay at this condo again. Thank you Richard and Maria for lending me your second home for a while!

Owner's Response: Thank you Libby for your generous and helpful review. It would be a pleasure were you to stay at our place again during future visits to Washington. Regarding pantry space, we have always found the food storage areas to be adequate though on occasion somewhat tight. Perhaps an additional cupboard or shelving of sorts would help, though finding adequate wall or floor space could prove difficult save for a substantial rebuild. In the event, we'll consult with an interior designer for design suggestions and cost estimates. All the best, Richard

Elegant, comfortable and convenient condo with a great view.

  • 5 of 5

We completely enjoyed our stay and found the property . It is beautifully designed with all of the features we needed for our 3 week stay. We loved the convenience to markets, restaurants and the subway. We'd definitely stay here again if the opportunity arose. Thanks so much!

Owner's Response: It was a delight to host Anne and her family. Communication was pleasant and easy. The property and contents were treated with care and returned in very clean condition. Our on-sight manager commented very favorably. These guests are more than welcome to return when next in the DC Area. Highly recommended to other prospective hosts!

Comfortable, pretty space, nice view. Good location for radiology residents doing AIRP.

  • 5 of 5

Very nice accommodations. Would certainty recommend this condo for radiology residents doing AIRP. The sliver spring theater is only a 5-7 min walk away. Easy walk to whole foods and restaurants. Comfortable space. The gym is nice, although equipment can be limited during peak hours.

Could not have asked for anything more

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed in Richard and Maria Burcroff's condo for the summer while we worked in downtown DC, and we could not have asked for anything more. The condo has all the comforts of home (it probably doesn't hurt that the owners live there themselves sometimes), has a free fitness center in the lobby, and is located just a 5-minute walk from the Metro, across the street from Whole Foods and CVS, and within blocks (in all directions) of a wide range of great restaurants. The condo itself has a great view of DC, an office complete with a printer and scanner, a full kitchen, a washer/dryer, great air conditioning, and nice touches everywhere. The owners are very responsive to email and answered our questions promptly and fully throughout the summer. They even threw in a couple of free apartment cleanings over the course of the summer. Staying in this condo was one of the best decisions we have made.

Owner's Response: Maria and I feel quite fortunate to have hosted Jonathan and his wife these past 3 months. They are ideal guests who felt quite responsible for the unit, at one point working closely with myself and our agent to organize minor but important repairs. We are delighted they enjoyed our place and look forward to hosting them once more should Jonathan and his wife choose to stay again when next in the Washington Area.

Wonderful stay

  • 5 of 5

I had the pleasure of staying at the condo for one month for a work function. The condo is well decorated, clean, and well-stocked with everything that I needed. Since it is on the top floor, the condo received plenty of sunlight in the mornings and late afternoons, an aspect that I enjoyed. It is conveniently located near two grocery stores within 5 minutes of walking, CVS pharmacy, numerous restaurants, and the metro red line. Richard was very responsive to emails and a pleasure to work with. An excellent experience and I recommend this condo without hesitation.

Extremely pleasant stay at an apartment in an excellent location

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I spent a very comfortable 2 months staying at this apartment, we found it to feel like a second home immediately and enjoyed the cleanliness, decor, appliances and gigantic bed greatly. The building is located in an excellent area right next to Downtown Silver Spring - full of restaurants, supermarkets and every other convenience you could need, and a mere 5 minutes walk from the metro and bus station that we used frequently to visit DC and other areas in Maryland.

Additionally, Richard and Maria were excellent to deal with, making sure our needs were attended to whenever required. We shall definitely use the apartment again if it's available when we are next in town. Highly recommended to all!
