About Property Manager/Owner
I am the great great granddaughter of Ebenezer Haggett who owned this property with his children and it is titled, "the Haggett Homestead". Ebenezer was famous as a shipbuilder who built the five masted schooner. Ebenezer had his ship building company in Newcastle which is now the Lincoln Home and built such beautiful ships as "the Elizabeth", "the Josephus", "the State of Maine". The craftsman in the home is mirrored after the ships with wainscoting and maple flooring.
Property Manager/Owner purchased this House in 2001
Why Property Manager/Owner chose Newcastle
The property is part of Maine history - with the wide pumpkin pine flooring, lovely architecture, quaint parlor and ballroom. Glidden Street was captured in DownEast Magazine as "Newcastle's Lovliest Lane". The countryside and beautiful federal homes provide the setting for Jane Austen's "Emma".
What makes this House unique
Close to town and shops, yet quiet and private; lovely sitting rooms for conversation, reading, quilting knitting; Porch setting which overlooks the Damariscotta River-- great for having coffee in the morning. Spacious rooms for friends and family

Loved the porch overlooking a street filled with beautiful homes.
Beautiful spacious house & yard in a perfect location that is walking distance to downtown Damariscotta shops, kayaking, & movies.
A wonderful week at the lovely Shipbuilder home
The home is very spacious and comfortable. There is a parlor which is near the porch and at night I would sit in the rocking chair and hear the old maple trees. The living room is beautifully decorated with artwork and antiques and the kitchen is fully stocked with pots and pans. My friends and I enjoyed our morning coffee looking out at the bay windows. The home was very clean and comfortable. It is located near the town od Damariscotta and we walked into town for ice cream and dinner and Mama Mia movie. The claw foot tub helped my aching foot from the walk. It was a great visit and look forward to many more. Kate Warren
Historical building - walking distance to downtown
Came for a wedding and this was very centrally located place to stay. It is an older type house with less of the amenities you would find with a house of today (smaller style beds for example), but it has character. House faces a graveyard across the street, so that can be a plus for some or a reason to sleep with the lights on during the night for others. Had a great stay. Thx
It's a great location. Apparently Stephen King wrote about the house in one of his. novels
Spacious and historical house in a great location
The location of this house is wonderful. You can walk to restaurants and shops in Damariscotta and Newcastle down a quaint street. The other direction you can find a trail through the woods that takes you to an oyster midden. The house is roomy and well equipped. Everything you could need in the little kitchen, soft cotton sheets and plenty of towels. It is an old house, so of course the floors creak and it is altogether charming. Also it is very, very clean. We did have an issue and it was satisfactorily resolved by the responsive owner. 10 thumbs up from our party of 5.
Peaceful and historic resisdence
This is an historic property with great atmosphere. It is not a corporate hotel. The rooms are clean and charming. The front porch and atmosphere are from another era. The great thing about this residence is the short walk into town for dining and fun. The original family still owns the home so this is a special place for people who appreciate historical homes.
Lovely old house is great location. House is very old but has a certain charm to it. Shower could be updated and a little bigger.
We are installing a shower next year and will renovating
