1,400 sq. ft. newly constructed cabin near Mt. Rainier and White Pass Ski Area

Built in 2010-2013 but empty until 2015, Baby Bear's Den is a new addition to the available properties in the Packwood area and currently is getting great reviews via another travel site. A recent visitor stated in their review, "Part of me wants to share with the world how amazing our experience was and part of me wants to keep this little secret to ourselves to enjoy for years to come”.

The cabin has a 10' X 20' cedar deck, slab granite counters, hickory cabinets, cedar breakfast counter, hardwood floors & stairs, custom cedar vanity w/ glass vessel sink, tile bathroom floors, stand-up tub, full-size laundry, heated ski/bonus room, on demand (endless) hot water, central heating, A/C in master and main floor, city water, level parking for RV or multiple cars, with a year-round creek and forest view.

About Rob and Kim Maricle

Rob currently is employed in the High Tech industry as a Process Engineer. He enjoys spending time socializing with friends and family, loves Washington State Cougar football, and is learning the tricks and trade of being a sports fisherman. Kim is a sales associate at a retail clothing firm and prior to that, was a full-time-mom until our three grown kids “left the nest”. She enjoys being outdoors but also is very creative and recently pursued her interest in surrealism oil painting (the cabin will have a couple of her paintings). Together, we raised three kids who were all competitive swimmers; two of them swam competitively at the collegiate level. We are thankful that our swim-family days are behind us due to the long hours spent driving to and from practices and swim meets. We currently live on a floating home on the Columbia River which is also a respite from the daily grind.

Why Rob and Kim Maricle chose Packwood

We simply love the outdoors and the small, community aspect of Packwood. It reminds us a lot of years gone by where one’s word was “good enough” in all situations and the locals are just down-to-earth, good people. Having grown up in a logging community, Rob loves being back in the woods away from the city sprawl. Kim is enamored with the beauty of the forest and looks forward to being able to hike and simply be in the fresh air. Both of us were snow skiers prior to having children and now have the opportunity to take up the sport again; especially since the White Pass Ski Area is only 17 miles away! The cabin purchase allows us to enjoy life away from the city (a “retreat” as it were). Our hope is to eventually pass the property along to our kids for their future enjoyment.

What makes this cabin unique

Location to all the various attractions in the area. The cabin is located 7 miles from the entrance to Mt. Rainer National Park with its many miles of hiking trails and scenery that gives one a real insight into the beauty found within the Cascade mountain range. Wildlife is almost taken for granted here; especially the elk that enjoy simply walking down the middle of Packwood. Our cabin is uniquely situated in front of a meadow that is one of the main paths for the elk as they move in and out of the forest seeking places to forage. Sitting under the stars on our deck or in the hot tub enjoying the stars cannot be described. It is simply one of the best ways we know to relax after a long day of hiking, wandering, or unwinding from our lives back in the Portland area.

Rainer is included out the master bedroom window. There is a loft area on the same floor as the Master bedroom with a day bed that can be made into either a twin or a full bed. Suitable for children. Lower Bedroom is furnished with a queen bed and a queen sized futon. Access to a bathroom is a few steps away and the hot tub is just outside the door.

Great cabin, great view!

Wow! This cabin has it all!!! It appears small from the outside, but all five of us had plenty of sleeping and eating space. We enjoyed the hot tub every night as well. Everything was meticulously clean and unbelievably comfortable. We were blessed with three sunny days, so we had amazing views of Rainier from our windows. There are so many details and amenities...four sleeping spaces, three bathrooms, espresso maker, multiples pots and pans, shampoo and hair dryer in the bathrooms, plenty of towels, washer and dryer...I could go on and on! The only minor thing I'd add to the cabin is bowls...our kids wanted cereal for breakfast and had to use coffee mugs (they survived). We had a great stay, and I'd definitely recommend this cabin to our friends and family.

Gracious and comfortable!

Wow, my kids and I had such a great time. Lots of thought is put into making your stay comfortable. I have a demanding job that keeps me from my family often. This was the perfect getaway! Great location. Swimming at Blue Hole, hiking the Tatoosh trail, close to town, campfires in the evening, had so much fun!

Great view of Mt Rainier!

It was clean, well stocked and comfortable. We enjoyed the hot tub and spent one evening by the fire. It’s close to many great hikes. If in the same area again, we’d definitely choose this cabin again. Oh, also the owners are very responsive if any questions come up.

My family loves this cabin. This is the 3rd year we have rented this cabin for a weekend ski trip and have enjoyed it every time. It’s placed in a great location, the perfect size, well maintained, and clean. A big thank you to Rob and Kim for allowing us to once again rent your lovely cabin.

Perfect for our family❤️

The information on this cabin does not give it justice! Our family felt right at home, with plenty of room and everything we needed. We enjoyed cooking in the kitchen, using the hot tub, and watching movies after hitting White Pass. The location was so close to the coffee shop, saloon and restaurants. There was plenty of beds and they were very comfortable. Can’t wait to come again.

Close to everything!

Great space for our family. Kids really enjoyed the cabin, watching movies and playing games. Mom and dad enjoyed how close it was to town for shopping and dining, and only 25 minutes to White Pass! Perfect location, will try and book again this summer for a visit to Mt. Rainier. Thanks for the cozy place!

Mt. Rainier National Park is a must see. It has numerous opportunities for hiking and views of the mountain that are just spectacular.....especially the trip to Paradise during late August / early September when the wild flowers are in bloom.

White Pass Ski area is only 17 miles away. It affords all of the conveniences of any ski area (food, ski rentals, and great skiing) but not the large crowds often seen at other Seatlle/Tacoma ski areas.

Riffe Lake is about 20 miles west on Highway 12. It is a Washington State park that affords fishing, water skiing, swimming, and picnicking.

Yakima is 75 miles east on Highway 12. The Yakima Valley affords some of the best wine tasting. The region is well known for its exquisite wines.
