About William and Elinor Morton

We are farmers from Warwickshire who have developed a deep love for the French Pyrenees and everything that it offers. We first visited Bareges in 1980, when we skied for the first time. We came back 22 years later with our two sons and knew that this was where we wanted to ski as a family.

William and Elinor Morton purchased this chalet in 2006

Why William and Elinor Morton chose Barèges

The chalet came on the market and we could see its potential. Over the years that we have had it we have worked hard to maintain a relaxed family feel to it where we love to come and bring our friends. We consider it our home, and hope our guests feel just as happy as we do when we are there. We have kept it deliberately French in feel, with a well equipped kitchen and a huge dining table for fabulous nights eating and socialising

What makes this chalet unique

Sleeps 18, with off road parking for 3-4 cars. the chalet has an open fire with wood provided for your stay. The central heating keeps the place very warm and there is plenty of hot water always available if you fancy a long soak in the bath!

Guestbook comments from the owner

There is a brand new snow park, with big air, border cross, tables and modules. Very good mountain restaurants, no queues, friendly lift attendants

The fully fitted kitchen has a large range cooker, fridge freezer and dishwasher. There are 2 coffee machines and 2 toasters. The adjoining dining room can be served through the hatch, much easier than having to carry plates, etc.. We have had some wonderful meals here, with at least 18 sitting at the table! The dining room is great for long leisurely meals, which in our case inevitably ends with a massive game of cards.

Peut mieux faire

  • 3 of 5

Car: recommended

Barèges is a traditional Pyrenean mountain village, with plenty to do both in the summer and the winter.

In the summer, Barèges is the perfect base from which to enjoy the varied walking the Pyrenees has to offer, including the famous GR10 route which spans the Pyrenees from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean and passes through the village. The Tour de France goes right past the chalet door, and you can watch the action from the terrace as the riders pass on their way to tackle the infamous Col du Tourmalet, 10 km further up the mountain.

For winter visitors the Domaine du Tourmalet ski area is very close by and there is easy access to Cauterets, Luz and Gavarnie ski areas.

There is a large thermal spa and an outdoor swimming pool which is open in the summer.

The restaurants all serve locally produced food, with lamb from the surrounding Toy valley a speciality.

Barèges is a short drive from Lourdes and Pau where there are both train and air links.

Ski: Bareges is in the largest ski area in the French Pyrenees. The resort rises to 2,500m and offers a wide range of both groomed and off piste skiing. The resort has many fantastic restaurants all offering home cooked food at very reasonable prices.
