About the property

Ideal secluded cabin with 3 bedrooms/2 baths and grand mountain views

Lydia's Rustic Lodge at Happy Ours Ranch, located between Bryce and Zion National Parks, is the perfect retreat for a weekend get-away or a long, slow vacation. Lydia's Canyon, just north of Glendale, Utah on Color Country's Scenic Highway 89, is known for its colorful maples and towering pines, lush meadows, and clear creeks and ponds. The property includes horse stalls and pasture, as well as a unique canyon with rocky ledges and grand views, perfect for an afternoon hike. Go for a walk on the canyon road, enjoy star-filled skies, and fish in private ponds right here in the canyon.

The three-bedroom, two-bath lodge has a roomy living area with classic open beams and a 55" screen TV. The upstairs bedroom is good-sized and boasts a large built-in closet. It is near the full, upstairs bath stocked with comfortable towels and all the amenities. The basement stays cool in the summer and houses an open game area and two more bedrooms. Both have comfortable queen-sized beds. Bedroom #2 adjoins a bath with a shower, and bedroom #3 has an additional twin bed. There is twin-over double bunk bed and a queen-sized futon in the downstairs living area. The kitchen hosts an antique cook stove with full electric capability and is fully stocked, whether guests want to eat in or take food on the go. The large, covered, wrap-around porch complete with a new BBQ grill "makes" the log cabin and is perfect for a quiet evening or a cook out with a crowd. Come and enjoy a rustic feel with all the latest technology, including wifi and a smart TV.

About Hal and Mercy Stout

We are Hal and Mercy Stout. We met while attending college in nearby Cedar City and moved to Lydia's Canyon to build a home on family land in 2002. Hal spent his childhood summers in this canyon and it has proven to be the perfect place to raise our family. Lydia's Lodge is located a half mile up the canyon from our home. We were thrilled to acquire it along with 18 acres as an addition to Happy Ours Ranch. We are excited to share this amazing place with your family or group as headquarters while you explore the marvels of southern Utah.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thanks for a great vacation stay. We had everything we needed for a relaxing get-away from our busy lives. Accommodations were spotless and spacious. We would have stayed forever if real life didn't interfere. Multiple families were comfortable. Thanks again!

Quiet, peaceful and centrally located to Bryce and Zion.

  • 5 of 5

This is a great home base for going to the national parks in the area. It has everything you need, is cozy and overall great! Mercy was very kind and accommodating. We forgot to grind our coffee beans and it all of the store were closed due to holidays and she was going to bring us coffee until we realized we could use the blender to grind it. As another review reported, she put a Christmas tree up for us which was very appreciated since we have a 3 year old. We really enjoyed our stay here and would absolutely book again.

Not so little cabin in the woods!

  • 5 of 5

Skip the usual tourist spots and head for this idyllic home located conveniently half way between Zion and Bryce Canyon National Parks. It is located off the main highway in a quiet and scenic setting. The house has everything you want for your stay. It is immaculately clean and well appointed with a full kitchen, T.V., Wifi, and laundry. There are games to play and lots of hot water for showering. It's perfect for several couples or family with children. The owners live close and checked with us to make sure we had everything we needed. It's one of those places you won't want to leave. An added bonus for any urban dwellers is the spectacular night skies. The dark skies of southern Utah are uniquely perfect for seeing zillions of stars you never knew were out there.

Great stay at Lydia's Lodge

  • 5 of 5

Our family recently stayed at Lydia's Lodge while visiting Zion. The house was very private and quiet, about 1.5 miles down a secluded drive. it was very nicely decorated, and gave us more than enough space for our family of five (one BR on main level, two BR plus bunk beds downstairs). Our kids enjoyed having the horses right outside our bedroom window. Mercy and Hal were very responsive and accommodating. The house is about 25 minutes from the east entrance of Zion, and there is another 30 minute drive to the visitor center where you pick up the shuttle for Zion Canyon. The drive coming in from the east side is very beautiful (includes Checkerboard Mesa) and underrated. There are very limited grocery and dining options between the park and the house, so plan accordingly. Overall a great stay!

Beautiful home!

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic time at Hal and Mercy's lodge! The home was a perfect base to enjoy Zion and Bryce Canyon. We hiked all day in the parks and then were able to relax in this peaceful lodge. Everything was clean and cozy. We had 4 young teens/tweens with us who loved the air hockey table.
