The cottage has spacious bedrooms with hardwood floors, original plaster walls & a kitchen island made from early 1900 2ft wide boards. Both sofas fold out into beds for extra accommodations. It sits near the New River and the Norfolk & Western railway and, as such, the train occasionally passes by, please be aware of the potential for train noise.
The cottage is not suitable for large groups or parties.

About Shaena Muldoon
Shaena grew up in Pembroke, Virginia just two miles from the site of the cottage. She remembers visiting Pyne's General Store, which was located right next to the cottage, as a little girl with her family. In 2009, she turned the building into The Palisades Restaurant. She has been in the restaurant and event businesses for over 20 years. Her extensive experience includes producing high-profile worldwide events such as the award-winning 2004 International VSA Arts Festival in Washington, D.C., the 2002 U.S. Olympic Torch Relay and the 1998 World Exposition in Lisbon, Portugal. After traveling to all of the seven continents, including Antarctica, Shaena has returned to Giles County which she considers one of the most beautiful places on Earth.
Shaena Muldoon purchased this House in 2007
Why Shaena Muldoon chose Eggleston
Mr. Hunter's Cottage is located in Giles County – one of the most scenic areas in Virginia. Before dining at the Palisades restaurant right next door, you can work up an appetite by hiking to the Cascades, a natural waterfall. Or grab a paddle and canoe down the New River – the worlds second oldest waterway. Or visit Giles’ three historic covered bridges – the most of any county in the state. Giles County offers numerous recreational activities so there's more than just one reason you’ll want to come to visit.
What makes this House unique
Enjoy the rumble of passing trains as the cottage is located 50 feet from the tracks in the bucolic mountains of southwest Virginia.

Clean and quaint
Nice location for vt weekend. Roomy, clean. Trains do pass, but that's part of the charm.
Super clean rustic! Great porch.
Great restaurant next door, wonderful remote area! Train occasionally loud. We loved sitting on the swing in the evening!
We had a fantastic time with great food right next door!!!
Two couples, each with their own suite - house was perfectly sized. Large porch was perfect for playing cards after dinner (if you didn't figure it out, The Pallisades Restaurant entrance is about 30 yards away). Easy access to the New River (maybe a 5-min drive?). We'll be back...
We enjoyed our stay at the cottage. It was clean, comfortable beds, spacious and would return again. We especially loved the restaurant, The Palisades, delicious food, friendly service and yummy desserts.
Great Country Getaway
It was one of our most enjoyable VRBO getaways ever. Eggleston and the house were fun pleasant trips back in time. Sheana couldn't do enough to make sure our stay was comfortable and our every wish was taken care of. At dinner, she even introduced us to someone that allowed us to park at their house, near the stadium, for the Ga Tech-Va Tech football game since we had never been to Blacksburg before. What a beautiful hike to Cascade Falls, especially with her pointers and guidance. Our only regret is we did not make reservations for dinner at The Palisades Restaurant for both nights!
The cottage is a bucolic setting just above the New River in the small village of Eggleston, VA. It is surrounded by mountains on all sides and is situated 50 feet from the Norfolk and Western train line, which adds an element of rustic charm and enables our guests to enjoy hearing and seeing the occasional freight train rumbling past on its way down the river.
