About Marianne Brownfield

As almost native Floridians NIck and Marianne have lived in Central Florida since the late 60's early 70's. We enjoy all outdoor activities. That's why the Suwannee River Spring house was perfect for us. We fell in love with the house and property the minute we saw it and wanted others to enjoy it when we couldn't be there.

Why Marianne Brownfield chose Florida

Our entire lives together and even before we met we both enjoyed all Florida has to offer. We have always enjoyed visiting the many springs in the north/central Florida area. Because we are surrounded by water, gentle breezes make the Florida heat somewhat bearable even in the hottest part of the summer. This property is unique in having a spring to enjoy even when the temperatures are in the upper 90's. The spring water is a constant 72 degrees all year. We wanted a place close to nature and away from the hustle and bustle of every day lives. Something on the Suwannee river was a must and we were fortunate enough to have the spring as a bonus. We hope you enjoy as much as we do.

What makes this house unique

The things that make this property so much more unique than others is the spring, The Suwannee River, all the other springs surrounding the area and the close proximity to the 3 major cities in north Florida. We are an hour and half north of Gainsville, west of Jacksonville and east of Tallahassee.

Private Spring made for a perfect stay

  • 5 of 5

We had a family of 5 stay over Memorial Day Weekend and our intentions were merely to stay on the property and relax the entire weekend. The private spring made it worth the stay. It was awesome to have a private area to swim in and just enjoy our family time. The owner was very quick to respond anytime I had a question. The house was clean and provided everything needed with plenty of extra's such as paper goods. There were outdoor chairs provided which was nice for the spring area. The river is just a short walk through a beautiful wooded area and with a small embankment to climb down we were able to fish the Suwanee. We are true Floridians and were prepared for mosquitoes but surprisingly they were not a problem at all. However, on the last day we were packing up and were walking the property and river to make sure we left no trace, we didn't get to take a swim so we did have chigger bites, swimming must have washed them off the first 2 days we were there. I suggest using a bug repellent when you visit. The chiggers are very common in wooded area's and not something a property owner would be able to control. Simple fix would be bug spray. This is a great place for large groups to stay, lots of room for kids of all ages just to be kids. We even got a visit from a neighbor's sweet hound dog who spent the day relaxing with us.

Lovely house, lovely property

  • 5 of 5

This house, out in the country, is welcoming and comfortable. We saw stars, birds, fawns - really a great break from city life. Not a lot of stores nearby, so bring supplies from town, then relax into plush couches or dine around a beautiful wood table.

Hidden Gem

  • 5 of 5

We had a perfect stay at this hidden gem. What a great piece of land and well kept property! We had never seen a private spring, much less swam in one.

Nice and comfortable

  • 4 of 5

If you are looking to "get away from it all" then this is the vacation rental property for you. It is quiet and far away off the beaten path.

The house was clean and nice inside and all the appliances worked fine. We had a group of 5 and there was plenty of room for all of us. Even the bunk beds were comfortable for sleeping. The only uncomfortable bed was the pull out single bed in the living room.

All the major items are provided; towels, sheets, dishes, etc. However the smaller items, you may want to bring with you, For example, there was not any bar or liquid soap in the bathroom for hand washing, only 2 rolls of toilet paper was provided and we could not find a hair blower in the bathroom. On the other hand, there was shampoo, conditioner and body wash in the shower which we did not expect to be provided. They had plenty of paper towels, trash bags and even paper plates. My suggestion would be to bring whatever disposable items you need and if there is already some there, you will just have duplicates.

It may have been because of the rains the week prior but we did not feel it would be safe to swim in the private spring because of all the stuff floating in it. Instead we drove to the other springs located in the area parks (about 30 -50 mins away).

We had a great time during our short stay at this property, we recommend it, and we would gladly stay here again if the opportunity presents itself.

If you do decide to rent, this property is about 50 mins from Icetucknee State Park. Do yourself a favor and go tubing or canoeing down the river if you can. It is absolutely beautiful.

About a half hour away in Mayo, we enjoyed the new Tumbleweed BBQ restaurant. The owner is very nice, the food it good and the service was great. Be sure to order the grilled shrimp, it is wonderful.
