Photos and Description of this 1 bedroom holiday apartment in East Nashville - Castle Hyrkania

This place is rather different from the norm. I like to think of my house as a Bohemian/Funhouse/Museum, due to the decor and the awesome vibe. The room itself is a big 20'x20', with 11' ceiling. (There is no private entrance.)

I mean, it's big. The pics do no justice. It contains a queen size canopy bed, along with a thick full size futon. A mini refrigerator and coffee maker are included. There is no t.v. in the room, because you aren't coming to Nashville to watch television, right? (But wifi is provided.) It's actually the original bedroom in a 110 y.o. Queen Anne Victorian style house, and comes with a private bathroom, with original claw-foot tub, featuring gold-plated European-style hand held fixtures. The house is located smack dab in the middle of Lockeland Springs, probably the most desirable of all East Nashville subdivisions. It's a half mile to the famous '5-Points' area, which includes a post office, music stores, library, mom&pop hardware store, local hand-made ice cream parlor, veterinarian service and numerous drinking establishments (including the “5 Spot” and "The Post", as seen on the hit ABC TV show “Nashville”) And quality restaurants!! - it seems there are more and more everyday!! We're also a half mile (in the other direction) to Shelby Park, with hiking, biking, and kayak rentals on the Cumberland River. And of the course our own Dog Park. (Oh - we do accept some pets, but beware - there are 2 male (indoor/outdoor) cats living here with me and a big, sweet dog (also indoor/outdoor, of course. The animals do not ever have access to the room, so there is very little dander to worry about.) We are 5 houses from the nearest bus stop, and it's only a 6 minute drive to downtown.

About Peter Hyrka

I am a divorced 60 y.o. professional musician, living with my 115 lb. dog - Ms. Beulah - and 2 cats, Amos & Andy. I have a very irreverent sense of humor, and consider myself to be rather liberal. I enjoy meeting folks from all walks of life, love reading books and I love to travel.

Peter Hyrka purchased this apartment in 2003

Why Peter Hyrka chose Nashville

My house is rather unique, in that it's not a total rehab job with shiny floors and sparkling chandeliers. Hardly a right angle anywhere, due to it's age. I like to refer to it as "vintage funhouse/museum," as there are quite a few bits of art work and curious about. In other words, rather "bohemian."

My wife and I enjoyed our stay with Peter tremendously.

If you are looking for affordable housing close to the down town area of Nashville this is a great option. The room was as the picture shows and quite comfortable. Peter is a friendly and kind host and tries his best to make your stay as great as possible.

Fun weekend getaway!

  • 5 of 5

The room was very large and accommodating. We were greeted upon arrival and there was fresh fruit and bottled water in the room (which was a nice surprise after our long trip!). We had lots of events in the city but the Lyft fare was only about $6. We felt comfortable and safe as though we were staying with a relative.

Wonderful Stay!

  • 5 of 5

The room is as described but felt much larger. Great location! Bed was comfy and clean. We really enjoyed Ms. Beulah, she was so patient with Enzo (our dog). Peter was the host with the most. He pointed us in the right direction with restaurants and things to do. He helped us find my son's violin and gave him some useful tips. I really enjoyed staying and the bonus was getting to hear Peter play violin, what a talent! I hope I get a chance to stay here again.

I highly recommend staying here!

The house and neighborhood has a lot of Nashville soul to it! Peter was quiet and respectful during our stay! Our flight got in super early and because no one was checking out that morning Peter welcomed us earlier than the check in time! You won't get that at a hotel chain!

Budget minded bohemian experience/great location east Nashville

  • 3 of 5

Great location in east Nashville. Walking distance to music and restaurants. Also Shelby golf course blocks away. Peter is a great host. He will assist you with local entertainment or restaurants or give you your space. Room and private bathroom is comfortable and clean. Can't beat the location! 10 minutes to downtown.

It was a great decision to stay here!

  • 5 of 5

Peter and his sweet dog, Miss Beulah, met us on the porch when we arrived. Talk about southern charm! Peter showed us our room (which is just as pictured) and made great suggestions for breakfast the next morning. He shared his history as a musician and invited us to come watch him play Sunday brunch with his band (this was a definite highlight of our trip) The house has a fun, funky vibe and has lots to look at and appreciate from old world charm to super interesting works of art on the walls. It sits in a neighborhood that is quiet, clean and safe feeling, and about a 6 minute drive to downtown Nashville. There is no shower or TV in the room. There is a clawfoot tub with hand-held shower nozzle. I was fine, but my 6'3" tiny, little husband was missing a shower. In my opinion, it added to the ambiance of the room and part of the adventure that comes with traveling to new places. If no shower is your deal breaker, maybe you should think about re-doing your rules? There is so much to do in this town, we had no need for a TV at all either.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and look forward to going back to see more of Nashville. We would consider ourselves lucky if Peter's room is available when we are ready to come back for more great music, amazing food and southern charm!

Owner's Response: Kelli & Lee were the perfect guests. I wish I could clone them! It seems that there could be no wrong!! But .... regarding the shower issue: as is mentioned in the listing, there is a separate bathroom in the house with a walk-in shower, back in the laundry room. So, claw-foot tub, or walk-in shower - your choice!
